Unfortunately I don’t know about the DeWalt palm router, but if it’s the same size as the Milwaukee M18 FUEL compact router, it will fit in a drawer with the vacuum attachment, spanner wrench, and template base. I don’t have a plunge base for my M18 router, but my guess is that it would be too wide to fit in one of the drawers.
I’m in the process of deciding between the Milwaukee Packout system and the Dewalt Tough System 2.0. This video really helped…I’m going with Milwaukee now. Dewalt’s base system stack with the 3 boxes isn’t bad. However they have so few options to expand the system, and a lot of those options are real let downs, that you’re basically left with just the 3 main box options. Meanwhile Milwaukee is the Wild-Wild West of box options, anything and everything you could possibly want. It all works well together, sure every item might not be 100% winner, but there are so many options you can always find something to fit your needs. Now if only Milwaukee wasn’t sooo expensive…but hey, when you’re top dog, you can charge a premium and ppl will pay.
I went with Packout…though as someone that likes good deals, I get body aches and heart pangs every time I look at the MSRP prices of the Packout boxes. However I’m ok with just waiting for sales to expand the system.
Yeah, overall Milwaukee Packout has larger discounts on their stuff this season vs Dewalt. It’s just annoying that it’s not everything across the board. I got the roller box, large box, and crate for $199. My Home Depot didn’t offer any discounts on the standard 3 box set. The website barely does either, I think it might be $269 online (regular $299). I wanted the crate anyway, so I figured it’ll be a cheaper deal to get that $199 deal and find the other regular top box on sale somewhere else, which should put me under $269 for all 4. ACE is running the same sale, but you can buy the boxes individually, so I got an extra Large box for $65 (regular $89). Now just gotta find that smaller top box on sale somewhere.
The box comes fully assembled. Being a fix it kind of guy, I did have a look to see if I could repair it, but it was a factory assembly and part issue. Also, having spent close to $100 for it, I didn’t want to sink more money into it. I’ve now got a few 1.0 and 2.0 drawer boxes that work, but I’ve been using them as storage in the shop because the drawers don’t lock. I wouldn’t want to leave them where someone might decide to help themselves to my tools. 😃
@Bruce Alan Reviews + Repairs (BalanR) I like the pack out. But, now that I'm setting up my new van, I realized that they might not work for me. I do lots of work/reno in apartment buildings that don't have elevators, and I must carry my tool boxes up the stairs. The packout drawers are pretty bulky and full of tools, too heavy (bulky and heavy isn't good for my back). I have ordered the dewalt drawers and TSTAK system to compare (they aren't as bulky). I know that I can add a handle on top of the dewalt two drawers....
Thanks for sharing that. My impression of the packout system is the same as yours. While the packout system is very sturdy, flexible/customizable, and there are some cool features, they’re bulky. I understand why Milwaukee designed the boxes as they did with the metal reinforced corners/bars (maximizes internal storage space), but the bars add to the overall bulkiness.
Great video. I was about to purchase this at my local hardware store. Tired of lugging my large Makita bag and plastic Milwaukee box. Thought something with wheels and I like the drawer idea. But after seeing your review, think I'm going to pass. 😉
I eventually got a few fully intact drawers and they’re fine. Not as rugged as the other toughsystem boxes though. I also got the 2.0 version of the drawers, which I’ll review soon, but DeWalt got rid of the top handle for some idiotic reason so I prefer the system 1 drawers as disfunctional as they are.
Yeah whoever authorized removing the top handle is clearly not in the right position. But thankfully the version 1 spare part handle fits! So while cumbersome, it’s fixable.
Im so gutted. I have the new tough system 2.0 wheel along stack and i was looking at getting the drawers next to fully kit out my van. But after seeing that its let down. Is there an alternative you would reccomend? Is stanley compatible?
Hey Shawn - I think Amazon was ultimately the issue. I finally got a few of these drawer sets that weren’t defective and find they’re great. They’re not as tough as the other boxes, but they are very handy.
Why no locking system I put my hand tools and cordless tools in these draws and no way to protect them when on site so there open to anyone who wants to help themselves I don’t think so would have loved to buy but not without locking system other than that the concept is great I do own the tough system 2.0 witch I pad lock every time I leave them it take two seconds and peace of mind so something for Dewalt to think on put some sort of locking system to help us protect are valuable tools.
Where did you end up ordering this from? I can't find it online at all! I started to wonder if they had stopped selling them ahead of a toughsystem 2.0 release.
They seem to be out of stock as you've mentioned. I finally got a good one from Home Depot.com and ordered a fourth through Amazon that arrived intact.
@@BruceAlanR they’ve recently released the new toughsystem 2.0 drawers in Australia so if assume the United States has had their release by now also. Hopefully they’re as good as the packout drawers
Perhaps. Wouldn’t be the first time counterfeit DeWalt items showed up on Amazon. I eventually did get a few 1.0 and 2.0. versions that were fully intact.
The reason you got two defective boxes is probably because Amazon isn’t an certified distributor and everything comes from third party company’s you probably bought it from a damaged stock reseller
Thank you, I wouldve pried the drawer sliders off. You're a life saver!
Very welcome! 👍
Does the 18v dewalt plam router fit into these with all the adapters?

You should make a video about the ds carrier
Great idea! I’ll try to get around to it. I would have included it in this video, but it was already very loooong. 😃

Can’t go wrong with the pack out. Folks I know love ‘em.

My local Home Depot has the 3 box packout on sale for $209 at the moment. It’s a great deal!

They now have a new and hopefully more sealed/robust drawer system
Someone else had pointed that out recently as well so I plan on getting a few. Thanks!
@@BruceAlanR if you do, please do another review 🙃
Could you have installed the crooked drawer incorrectly on the glider? Or did it come already put together. Thank you excellent review by the way

Ya I have one and I agree with the assessment. I still use mine for light duty tools but the build quality could certainly be a lot better.
Thanks for sharing that. I eventually got a few that worked, but only use them in the workshop for storage since DeWalt dropped the ball on this one.
thanks for the heads up guys
where did you get that from and i can't find at the store
Try Amazon although it took me multiple returns to get one that worked properly.
I would have purchased these dewalt drawers. Unfortunately, I can't find them locally. Therefore, I picked up the packout drawers.
Cool. How do you like the packout drawers?

I run 3 set of drawers a side in my extended cab truck for a year or so they work awesome. They don't leave the truck though.
Thanks for the info. I ultimately ended up getting a few that actually work.
I just got the same box from Amazon and had same punch out at exact same location, I almost suspect amazon sold me your returned box.
Wow! It’s quite possible. Sorry to here that. Third time on Amazon was a charm for me. After that I ordered elsewhere with no problems.
Hopefully dewalt revamps these 2 and 3 drawer 1.0 boxes with the 2.0 IP65 standards
I totally agree!

Yes, I posted a link to a video on the 1”2.0 box review of a guy showing how to do it.
could be amazon crooked sellers selling returned or defective stuff
True. When I placed the order it said sold and fulfilled by Amazon.
Good review. How are the tstak drawers?
I’ve never used the Tstak system since it’s not compatible with the ToughSystem boxes. Perhaps I’ll have to try them.
Im so gutted. I have the new tough system 2.0 wheel along stack and i was looking at getting the drawers next to fully kit out my van. But after seeing that its let down.

I totally agree! I recently picked up the 2.0 version of these boxes and still no locking system… and they got rid of the handle on top. 🙄
Did you decided to keep it ? Thanks for great video
I actually decided to order a 3rd and got one in tact, which I kept. I won’t be ordering tools from Amazon again.

Ah! Makes sense. I typically only buy products that say shipped and sold by Amazon, but perhaps I missed it. Thanks for the info.
do not buy tools on amazon
Yes, I’ve learned that the hard way. Even buying tools shipped and sold directly by Amazon can be suspect.
