    The size of many kids rooms won’t accommodate adult furniture. I slept in a twin bed until I got married. You should do a video on kids rooms when the room is small.

    I love your videos and they are always filled with great tips. This one has great tips for older kids. However, I don’t necessarily agree about making a kids room look like as as you have shown here. Especially for younger kids. Full size beds takes up valuable real estate in a kids room that are typically on the smaller side. I let my kids help design their room and so what if they looks childish. They are only a kid once. Let them have fun!

      True. I remember my bedroom which was the size of a closet, it fit a bed and a desk with barely room to walk between. My mom always tried to make it look nice. I came home from school one day and had painted mirror tiles on my wall - pink contact paper with white flowers, and green trim. It was really cute! yolo!

    Not all of this are mistakes every time I think. Like, everyone has there own style and a white room or a colorful wall for example can also be great! It also doesn’t always have to be perfectly designed after what’s written in a book at designers school. You do you, guys!

    • @JulieKhuu

      Always 🙌🏻 I consider mistakes unintentional. When you plan a room out, it’s never a mistake, but clearly your design perspective 👍🏻☺️

    “ the key to decorating a kid’s room is curating investment pieces that can work for any age” so true ❤️ . My partner and I don’t have kids yet, but recently we visited our friends after a year, the wife had a kid last year and she said something very similar when we were in their house. That way it saves money and energy to go out buy furniture and it’s eco friendly too . Love you videos and contents , always learn something watching your videos

    I found some of your tips really helpful. However, I do think furniture in children's size is useful. Especially for toddlers, they won't be able to open the high drawers, or sit on normal chairs comfortably, also they might fall out of a queen size bed in the middle of the room. I rather buy fitting furniture second hand, well knowing we probably only use it for 5 years. Unless a second one comes around 😁 also restyling the room now and then is a great way to get creative and express your growing personality. As a child, I loved it when we rearranged my room or changed the walls or I got a new piece of furniture after some years

    My grandkids stay over often and have their own room in my home. I agree with purchasing quality pieces from the get-go, vs. the kiddie stuff, but I don’t agree that kids under 18 need anything over a twin size bed. Also, quality pieces can be bought 2nd hand for a fraction of new. I found a PB bed for $50 off of FB Marketplace. Solid piece that can literally last generations.

      Try a daybed with pull out trundle. I feature a favorite one in Dr. Mona Vand’s apartment makeover. Top and bottom are both full sized, but if you have the space, you can even do Queen on top and pull-out full 👍🏻

    Hi, Julie, thanks for the video! Amazing as always :) we are moving to a new house and I'm struggling to think of my daughter's room. She would like a very neutral boho style, but the room is big and has slanted ceilings. How would you recommend us painting the walls, please? I was thinking of leaving them white, but I don't qant to be one of your mistakes! ;) thanks a lot!! 😚🥰

      I love white walls for a bohemian style Monica! It works well when there’s tonal textures going on. Lots of look without feeling heavy at all! Ceilings would then be painted white as well. Look to her inspiration images as a guide 😍

    I love the video. It's very informative & has a lot of great tips in it. However, as a mom of an almost 4 yr old toddler, a lot of these room ideas seem more geared twords teens/adults vs younger kiddos in my opinion. Idk about you all, but my son wouldn't be asking or wanting these type of designed rooms that are more grownup, mature. These kind of rooms I feel you would find in a show house thats for sale or a rental property. I don't agree with getting a bigger bed like a queen right off the bat & purchasing adult sized furniture especially if you have a toddler. Yes I get the reasoning behind it like it saves you lots of $, grows with your child etc. but whats the point of having furniture that they can't open themselves & use. You would have to do everything for them still, which defeats the purpose of helping your kiddos be independent. For me I don't mind spending the $ on furniture their size like a bed, or dresser & my son loves his independence to do things himself I think he'd get mad or frustrated if he always had to wait for me to do everything for him.

    Wonderful work julia👌. Plz guide for urban / city garden . If a house doesn’t have any space even for a small lawn or backyard , how can we add greenery outdoor to give luxurious look. My current house does have around 1300 Sq feet lawn which my husband had beautifully maintained . But our new permanent house will have have only around 150 sq feet open space at one side of porch . This space is just outside/ next to drawing room window . What dramatic things I could do . There would also be a 4 ‘ wide alley at one side and back all along the house . What could I do to the wall to make it beautiful when being inside . Thanks ... also tell about terraces and balconies

    Hi Julie, I have a request for your expert opinion on rugs. I just ordered a 100% viscose rug and I read horrible things about the material post factum:) What is your advice on materials for rugs? Is viscose that bad (I still love the look)? What about hides and sheepskin?

    • @JulieKhuu
      @JulieKhuu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Viscose is great for vacuuming and cleaning- the synthetic fiber doesn’t shed and you can use a wet vacuum for spills. But since it’s synthetic, it sometimes feels cheap and thin. Hides are genuine leather and sheepskin is thick and heavy. Think about the usage and flow of traffic. The heavier the flow, the more durable the rug should be. I have a huge area rug video for more tips Maria! Check it out 👍🏻

The childhood takes a little bit of time, if well planned, by the time they're teens, the family would be able to make a transformation. I think the biggest mistake people make with kids’ rooms is overdesigning them and not letting the kids have enough say. Some of these rooms are really great, but they look like they were designed by adults.... for adults. Children are *not* just tiny adults. Their development is in full swing and their brains work very differently. A bedroom is the place where *they* play, work, and live, and it’s generally the only space they have that is their own - and they’re often sharing with a sibling or two. It’s one thing to set some limits or guidelines like "No, we’re not going to paint every wall bright orange," but what’s so wrong with having a more blank canvas and allowing the kids to showcase their own interests and talents, instead of an adult deciding that for them...?

    • @JulieKhuu
      @JulieKhuu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing “wrong” with it if that’s your intent Rachel 👍🏻☺️ This entire series is designed for those who unintentionally design without a plan. Do what you love always, you’ll never get it wrong
