Hi guys. Have played Alien with the family, and had fun with it (oh and lost). I know there is another game in this genre called (naturally enough) Aliens. Haven't bought the game. Main reason the figures have to be constructed, unlike Alien, and likewise one can in Aliens be eliminated (leastways so I am given to understand). I see you have a copy of Aliens. and would appreciate any comments on said game. May I be so bold as to enquire whether a video of Aliens might be on the cards?

Glad you enjoyed Alien, Ray. And we've certainly lost our share of games to the Alien. If you haven't tried the original Horrified: Universal Monsters, I recommend checking it out as well. A lot of fun, especially if you enjoy the classic monster movies. We might do a playthrough on that still this year. As for Aliens, we were going to do a video for it after Alien but got sidetracked. However, Ollie agrees that we can bump it up to our next video, so look for that in the next couple weeks (we're not the fastest, but I do a lot of editing in them that I'm still learning about). We'll have footage of assembly to give everyone an idea of what the assembly requires. Depending on how many are playing, if your character gets eliminated, you take over another character, but you can eventually be out of the game. Whether you would enjoy it or not? It's a different type of game from Alien: FOTN, so it depends on one's interests. It does have a neat mini-campaign concept, but I'll let you decide from the playthrough. Thank you for writing, and happy gaming!

@@robbieollieplay779 Many thanks for the comments, very much appreciated. I'll look out for future videos, as and when. I got into gaming through my parents (like Ollie I guess) and was introduced to all kinds of board games from checkers to chess. Took this interest with me into adulthood and found myself buying games from two main American game companies of the time, namely Avalon Hill and SPI. Alas no longer trading. Still have quite a view of their games in my collection, although rarely play them these days. As for my favourite sci-fi movie, I would probably say The Thing, (John Carpenter). Maybe not for Ollie....(There is a computer game based on the movie.)

Yeah, John Carpenter's The Thing might be too much for Ollie right now. I did talk him into watching the original Alien before we did the game video, but it creeped him out watching it in daytime, and he still isn't interested in checking out the other Alien movies. Some day I'll introduce him to that classic, though. Avalon Hill was awesome. I had a lot of their games through high school and college, but my parents unloaded them while I was living away from home. Another popular one with my siblings was Risk, and Ollie still likes playing that with them. The big ones with my gaming friends at the time were Axis & Allies and Shogun. Thank you for watching, and our best to you in England!

@@robbieollieplay779 Curious they didn't make a sequel to The Thing, but left it open-ended. I played many Avalon Hill games in the halcyon days, mostly by mail ("snail mail") believe it or not. Rail Baron was fun, as was Diplomacy. Another was Kingmaker, that dealt with the English Wars of the Roses in the 15th century (not to be confused with the English Civil War of the 17th century). A topical game these days is Pandemic. The game mechanics and complexity is similar to Alien, (I refer to the initial game, not the expansions that followed in the wake of the original). Winter is almost here in England. Maybe time to put another log on the fire make a hot cup of tea and play a board game of two! Thanks for the comments, best regards to the US of A!

It is interesting they never followed up on The Thing since they seemed to make sequels to everything, even then. I've heard of Rail Baron and Diplomacy, but I've never played them. I want to play Pandemic sometime, but it seems like a game to play with at least 3 or 4 players. Maybe we'll try it out sometime, though. I know of people that did the snail mail gaming, but I was fortunate in having a friend growing up that loved to game, so we were constantly getting together and buying new games to try. We were often times playing overly complicated combat strategy games. In fact, I'm trying to get him to join us for a 3-player game! We've been fortunate in Southwest Michigan that winter has barely hinted at coming, but it does make for perfect weather to relax at the table with board games! Who knows, we might even put together some videos a little more often when the snow hits. Stay dry over there (just assuming England is like Seattle...more rain than snow).

Just got it today. being a bone idle person I`m watching vids instead of reading the rules! Just an observation but I understand from a game point of view, team loss is cool as no one gets left waiting for the the game to end but as a solo player, I want to see some ability to lose characters... My first thought as a "house rule" a straight dice roll if the Alien lands on your space, the Alien gets the morale loss figure as an add to the Alien dice after any reduction from character equipment. if the character wins or evens gets to run away as per stock rules. Just an idea. i guess this will make it much harder to win....but it wasn't easy in the film and being the last character to survive seems quite an addition to the game :) BTW I`m painting the figures while I`m watching this and thinking the Aliens out of ADITC are nicer poses than this one.....

I've certainly done my share of watching videos instead of reading the rules, so I can't criticize you there. I agree that I like the ability of characters to be eliminated, but it depends also on who I'm playing with. More casual gamers tend not to like elimination games, but there is a lot to be said for being the last player standing and pull it off, just like in the movie. Kudos to you for painting them, I hope they turn out great! Send a picture if you have time. Ollie and I have been playing a lot of ADITC lately, and the sculpts are more detailed and interesting, especially the aliens! And survival is rare...

@@robbieollieplay779 I paint all my game figures....probably as much fun as playing TBH. :) I painted all my ADITC figures but then got into another game so haven't yet actually played with them! Im really loving Alien though, I love simple rules and quick games. I still have the old Leading Edge Aliens game and spent hour after hour playing that, adding my own rules, eventually building a 3 d board and playing with figures. I suppose iv always chased that passion. Im a solo gamer so Im invested more in story than "winning" hence my house rules make the game much harder....but who doesn't like snatching a victory at the last minit? Keep up the good work!

@Dave Duvalier Painted minis and 3D boards are always better! That's why we're always looking at replacing the cardboard cutouts with pieces like we did with Godzilla TC. I've found I enjoy painting as well, and I painted half of the pieces for Star Wars Rebellion last winter, but ever since we started this channel, I don't have as much extra time. The Alien games are begging for it though. And I would like to paint the original Horrified game. Never played the Leading Edge game, but it always looked like a good one. I do a lot of solo gaming as well, and the stories you tell as your playing definitely add to it. Thank you for the comments!

I can't decide if it is a good game or not ? I am an Alien fan, but I can't see where the fun is ?

@Oleander Nerium I'm a fan of the first two movies, and I enjoy the fact that the game holds mostly true to the concepts in the original movie. We both like how the random finale mission can throw a serious wrench into whatever plans have already been worked out. If you like these types of cooperative games, though, and you like classic movie monsters as well, I would check out Horrified if you haven't already. We played Alien quite a few times, but we haven't pulled it out in a while, whereas we will still pull out one of the Horrified games just for the aesthetic and mechanics, which overall flow better. Still, I'm sure we'll pull Alien out again as we do consider it a "keeper" game. I do recommend the Director's Cut rules to add a level of challenge to it.
