some years ago, a major league baseball team had a player from China. His name was Hu. When Hu got to first base, the announcer was so exicited because he had waited his entire career to say, "Hu's on first".
@@JPMadden hardly matters if China seeks “reunification” and their propaganda is ramping that possibility up. The west will not protect Taiwan’s sovereignty like they would Ukraine.
@@Houd_Vast Actually, we're not protecting Ukraine, since they're not part of NATO, and Russia has thousands of nuclear weapons. However, we have promised to protect Taiwan, and China knows this. For as much noise as China makes over Taiwan, they haven't been willing to risk a nuclear war over it.
What a great reaction guys. There are many native English speakers that can't keep up with Lou Costello's rapid fire English, so nicely done. This is one of my favorite Comedy routines, thank you for sharing it with us.
There was a Taiwanese baseball player Chin-Lung Hu who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2007 to 2010 (currently plays for the Fubon Guardians in the Chinese Pro Baseball League). While with the Dodgers, after hitting his first Single, the TV commentator said "I've been waiting my entire career to say this, Hu's on First!"
@@RichardMoore-b1n By the by, side note: the examples of "silly names" Abbott mentioned, "Stinky" Fields and "Booby" Barber, they were actually Sidney Fields and Bobby Barber, two writers for the Abbott & Costello Show, I assume Goofy Dan was another writer.
"Who's On First" was first performed on the vaudeville stage in 1937. When it was performed on radio in 1938 it became their most requested routine. The version here is from their TV show "The Abbott And Costello Show" in 1951. That is why they have the routine down pat. It is still the funniest skit.
Who's On First is hands down the funniest comedy routine of all time, I love watching people discover it, especially young folks. Other comedians had done similar wordplay routines, but Abbott & Costello perfected it with this routine, and specifically the performance in the video you reacted to. It's easily the best rendition of it. They're also responsible for one of my all-time favorite movies, Hold That Ghost. It leaves me in stitches every time I watch it.
I liked the one that was shown to be on-stage with Lou dressed in a baseball uniform, stuttering on the "You don't want to tell me Today... Tomorrow, do you?" because he'd lost the thread a little bit.
Two of our greatest comedic Legends they have both passed on now and they're gone but it's so nice to see that Abbott and Costello can make young people laugh to this day rip Bud Abbott and r i p Lou Costello
Any good performance is timeless and appreciated by all cultures. I really enjoyed the delight these kids had in watching and it reminded me of how much I have always loved it too.
Lou Costello (the short guy) was the comedian, he hired Bud Abbott (the taller man) and insisted on a 60/40 split of the profits... going to Abbott. He said comedians are a dime a dozen but good straight men are hard to find.
I was born a year after this was filmed and probably the same age as you young folks when i first saw this ! I must say it was awesome to see you young folks enjoy it so much ! Your laughter is heart warming !
This comedy skit is the perfect description of 2 people who speak the same language, but do not understand each other. The golden age of rising tv comedy
I grew up seeing these guys films on tv on Saturday mornings - I didn't know this skit until recently - but it is so good to see young people for another country enjoying and laughing
Watching you guys react to this and enjoy it so much makes me smile enormously. I’m 47 yrs old and was brought up listening to these two and I’m amazed that you guys like this so much. Great job.
Wonderful. You guys did a great job and it's nice to know that this humor can reach those who speak English as a second language. The fun you were having is contagious - thanks!
Abbot and Costello’s skits are extremely funny. Here are others I really think you will enjoy : 1. 13x7 = 28 2. Two tens for a five 3. The Gettysburg Address (Forefathers)
This is one of my favorite comedy routines of all time. So many people have done take-offs on it, but nothing can compare to the original. I remember watching Abbot and Costello on television when I was growing up in the 1950s, so it's always wonderful to see a new generation of comedy fans discover Bud and Lou, especially this routine. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
This is a classic American skit from 1953! Their timing is incredible and Lou speaks very fast, which makes it hard if English is not your first language. Nice to see you enjoy it.
None of the acting routine was done the same way whenever they did this skit. Each time they did the skit it was always done a little bit different from the last time they did it. Costello could make you think he was really mad but it was all in the act that they performed. They were just that good together. Other teams were Laurel and Hardy and of course The Three Stooges, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, and others that I can't remember. Just remember Costello was not really mad at Abbott and he wasn't confused either. I believe this type of comedy was called slapstick comedy. Great video.
I know you mentioned it, but of of the best things about Lou (the not to bright guy in the skit) was that he was able to look completely confused and helpless :)
This was real talent kids. It was all LIVE TV. There were no takes and re-takes and finally getting it right. You were on LIVE TV and you had to get it right the first time.
A true classic that stands the test of time and funny, its charms are apparent on each succeeding generation that discovers it. Isn't it great that we have clips like this so se can continue to laugh together at great comedy? The question isn't is is old, it's, is it good? And the answer always comes back, YES it is. It so nice you were able to see this great comedy duo
I love this reaction, and I would LOVE to see their reaction to some other Abbott and Costello skits, _especially_ "7×13=28" and "Two Tens for a Five."
Bud Abbotts grandson is on YT and he said... he knows that his grandfather would be proud to know that his work is still appreciated and still making people laugh!! The creativity in this is astounding!! Genius work in this!! This was done Live on TV and in front of a studio audience!
One of the most brilliant pieces of comedy written and performed. They perform this flawlessly. Imagine the first time audiences heard this when it was new.
These two were famous even for people like me who grew up after they were dead or retired, because television stations would show the many movies they made together. You shouldn't feel bad about having trouble following their rapid speech: by design, they are talking as fast as they possibly can, way faster than most people ordinarily speak, as part of the fun.
Abbott and Costelli had a string of movies, competing with the Three Stooges. I dont think yall can handle the original Three Stooges. You'll be laughing too hard.
This routine took place in 1952, two years after I was born. Most of the entertainers of that era, started their careers in Vaudeville & many made the transition to TV. They were so well practiced at their routines they would come off seamlessly, as this one did, having done it for, in some cases, for decades.
You have praised it a lot but have not paid attention to the fact that this was in 1953! I have seen old movies of different languages & it's not just this Abbott & Costello but everyone of that generation & era speak & understand way more faster than the people of today. The old era which many of today's generation have an impression that it's backward, is better than today in so many ways. The intelligence, morals, people's health & everything. Hope you watch some more old videos just once in a while. The other videos of Abbott & Costello too are equally fantastic.
I just love a genuine reaction. It's hard to find sometimes, but you guys are cool. Love peace and apple grease. That doesn't make any sense, but you guys are cool.
I don't know if any other comedy duo has ever tried to perform this. Abbot and Costello had this down pat. Everything in comedic timing and tone of voice had to be flawless to make this work. A very high benchmark.
