With the whole "intro sequence is pointless" thing, you missed the most important part. It establishes Rocket's and Peter's main conflict throughout the entire film. Peter's struggle with his own ego (metaphorically in this case) and Rocket's struggle with accepting companionship.
It also established the main theme: Parenthood. Every single character has a little parenting moment with baby Groot. And that is something that most Marvel movies lack. Subtlety.
There’s a scene from this movie I think is massively under-appreciated: the one where Drax tells Mantis about his wife and daughter. He’s looking serenely at a fountain, but when she touches him, she feels his emotions and starts weeping. I think it’s one of the best-written character moments in any superhero movie ever, especially for Drax, whose grief, rage and vengeance are usually glossed over in favour of punchlines, and it showcases an intelligent use for Mantis’ powers, having them aid in another character’s characterisation, specifically how Drax is able to present a calm exterior despite having so much inner turmoil. It’s my favourite scene in this movie (which I love), one of my favourites in the whole MCU (which, if you know me, is saying something) and I think it’s a shame neither Jeremy nor you took a sin off for it. This isn’t a criticism of you, the movie or Cinemasins, I just want some more love for that scene.

Ben W both are great movies, but I agree with you, Vol 2 is the better movie. I think it has a lot to do with how important the bonds of family are in the movie from things like Peter Quill’s desire for a father making him not notice that he had a father figure that loved him very much until it was too late and Gamora realizing that her desire to be the best indirectly caused her sister to be tortured by their adopted father while not realizing that it hurt Nebula a lot more because she only wanted a sister which causes Gamora to start to mend the bond between them. Even Rocket realizes that he doesn’t always have to be the tough standoffish guy and can start to see the other Guardians as his family now. There are many great storylines and character moments in this movie.
Agreed. GOTGV2 is probably my favorite MCU movie. I recognize that "objectively" it isn't the best one, but personally, it's my favorite. Ego said that only Peter caried the Celestial gene. That doesn't mean that Ego wasn't lieing. Ego could have found hundreds of his children that were Celestials, but they might not have been able to control their own power, or even rebelled against Ego before being defeated by him. It makes perfect sense why Ego wouldn't tell this to Peter. "there are lots of people like you that I created, but they all hated my power thirsty and universe distroying ideas so I had to kill them."
@@kylecampbell565 Here's a thought: Ego told the truth, and as Jeremy posited, if he had hundreds of kids all over the place...it would suggest (using the term loosely) that the Celestial gene is actually recessive.

Actually, Drax is clearly established as being superhuman. Remember when he tore that drone apart in the first movie while it was shooting at him? And the part in this very movie where he hits trees and they break in half to which he gets up as if nothing happened.

It's actually incredibly important that Rocket is stealing from the group that hired them and it HAD to be a confrontation with them that puts them in danger from both Ego and the Ravagers. It's how Rocket self-sabotages his only close relationships. That's his and Yondu's arc.
14:53 I always thought Peter could handle egos celestial genetic powers because Ego genuinely loved his mother. It feels heavily implied, and theres no reason to believe Ego was lying about the love for his Peter's mom. Maybe there's some lore science about the gene being stronger if the connection is stronger idk
Jeremy really shouldn't bring up genetics if he doesn't know anything about genetics. Ego said himself ' not one of them carried the celestial genes' meaning multiple genes need to be passed on to make one of his children a celestial, which makes perfect sense. Assuming Ego's had a couple hundred kids, and if celestial genes do follow simple Mendelian inheritance, as Jeremy suggested with his punnett square comment, then the most likely situation would be that Ego is heterozygous for at least 9 celestial genes giving a 1 in 512 chance of passing on the the full trait, assuming the genes are independent. Not to mention that there are plenty of traits that don't follow Mendelian inheritance.
*Me happy I got a basic concept right that's completely unrelated because I know nothing about genetics* You have unintentionally made a semi-bad night better, thank you.
Actually he never was one of the Most powerful characters in Marvel, he doesn't have anything else but super strength and in the comics he used to have cosmic beams and stuff like that but then all was removed. So it would be a sin for you.
The captain wasn't the only crewmember to get a greater share of the loot. The same was true for the quartermaster, carpenter and doctor. Basically if you had more duties it meant you got more of the loot.
12:48 "Are you sure about that?" Actually, yes. If Gamora ran towards the ship rather than away from it, then she would spend less time underneath the area the guns can shoot at her, which decreases the chances to be hit. Unless of course this sin is about the specific precentages Jeremy is using, in which case idk.
I think the gunfire was quite a lot behind her so she would have to go through it. Also the ship then crashed there which definitely wouldn’t have been good
Those remote ships are not battleships. They are fighters or interceptors. Battleships are many many times larger, more armored, carries more and bigger weponry. 14:30 Jeremy was quoting a line Tony Stark used in Iron Man 3 when he was talking to the kid in the garage. I don't think he was implying any ill will, and was just applying it to another Marvel sans parent(s) situation.
When did I say he wasn't? CinemaSinsSins sinned it because he thought it was a harsh thing to say, not knowing it was a reference. Gracekim1 what? Why (in universe) would the Guardians need to see what they're fighting? And if it the Sovereign that you're talking about why would they need another screen showing them on the ship?
Samuel Barber I mean I think it should the pilot on the screen to show that that person is shoot at the guardians like a video game. As for why they showed that I have no idea 😅
@@gracekim1998 They easily could've had the ships one-way videos where the Sovereign can see what their shooting at but there's no projection onto their ship. It's literally just putting a camera on the ship like real planes and drones do. I suspect the reason the creators added it was to add to the sense of the movie being kind of like an arcade game, or like one commenter said to show that the Sovereign are vain, but it's a very silly and unnecessary thing in-universe.
About the sin on 12:47-ish, assuming the ship's frontal guns can only point straight forward, yes, running towards it would put gamora (briefly) at increased risk of getting shot, but only until she put herself under the line of fire. Running in the same direction as the ship would realistically be dumb, unless nebula crashed it, which in her rage would have been likely. Other than that, top notch vid. Cheers!
I like how he's happy to believe that starlord keeps his cassete player working but not keep a piece of paper with a picture, it's not like people do that all of the time.
3:09 My only guess would be that since they're shown to be very image obsessed, this would be something that also translates into battle, but that might be a stretch.
Missed sin: the fact that CinemaSins even made a video about GOTG2 because that is pure cinematic perfection and should now be the reference point for any and all other attempts at piecing footage together GOTG2 IS MY FAVOURITE MARVEL FILM/ANY FILM/THING THAT EXISTS FITE ME
One of your biggest mistakes, is assuming that Mr. incredible was being literal. When he said that they were come to take out the garbage in an hour, he was referring to the criminal as garbage.
Rocket stealing the batteries is a big part of his character arc. It helps get the others mad at him, and helps reveal why he keeps being such a dick to his family. And with it revealed, people can start doing something about it and transform him into a better, more likable person. The monitors on the Sovereign ships are perfectly in character for the Sovereign, and help show off what pompous, disdainful, arrogant dicks they are, and how little they take killing people seriously. It's all just a game for them. The whole control room for the remote drones is a big video arcade, and even the shot noises sound like they belong in a video - note that the real shot noises from the actual ships don't sound like that. Groot is a "baby". Well, more like a toddler, really. It's not surprising that he has some trouble understanding what he's supposed to do.
Sin 14: Holy cow! Movies are sposed to have conflict?! And Cimemasinssins is how I find out?! (I'm sorry. I love you, dude, and your work. I am just a compulsively obnoxious dork.)
When watching this, I assumed Rocket and Groot can understand each other as well as a parent and toddler can, which is basically what they are at this moment. Just because Groot can understand Rocket does not mean he can perform complex tasks, because he is a toddler.
I get how some folks can not care for the Marvel movies. I love them, but tastes among humans is varied and nuanced so I certainly wouldn't fault someone who didn't like seeing, and keeping up with, all the Marvel films. But GotG2? Not liking that is akin to not having a soul. :D
12:40 "Are you sure about that?" Well, maybe not 80 percent, but that ship showed no signs of stopping and was above her. So running away from, and by consequence, staying in front of it puts you in more danger. The REAL counter-sin here is that he thinks ANYONE would think of that in the moment. Fight-or-Flight ignores logic. It's perfectly reasonable for Gamora to run away from the big thing shooting bullets at her. Then again, we don't know how alien psychology works, but I'm gonna assume it's similar to ours.
03:31 also showing later on, it shown they’re not a fan of using up resources.Their main deal is to make perfect humans, Not to fight but rocket pissed them off. Watch the end credit scene.
Just to share, the line “Dads leave, no need to be a pussy about it.” is a direct Iron Man 3 quote from Tony. ( th-cam.com/video/-k_56dpP3H0/w-d-xo.html ) And trust me, I’m not defending CinemaSins with this, just adding clarification.
I'm just thankful Jeremy didn't make a Farscape referenced Sin with the Ben Browder cameo. Given he makes so many Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who (but missed it with Gone with 60 Seconds for some reason).
11:38 No? In the end credits Star Lord is talking to teenage Groot who says "I am GroOoOt" to which Star Lord replies with "I am not boring!" Which means not only Rocket can understand Groot.
"Rocket can understand Groot so why can't Groot understand?" Well, aside from Jay's points here - Groot is also a literally toddler so, ya know, he struggles a bit...

Maybe they double the ships as like private transport and you can use that screen as a window to your pilot or turn it off.
Remember they are very very vain, they probably want to use the opportunity to let their enemies see them.
Cheers!
Love these videos man.....worst part of these vids are hearing tool from cinema sins talk but I know it's kind of essential for the vids
I like how he's happy to believe that starlord keeps his cassete player working but not keep a piece of paper with a picture, it's not like people do that all of the time.
Thor's new hammer is pretty much a modified "WarHammer". That’s the angle they are using to justify calling it a hammer.
Bruh I just got an ad from ace about products from the "Ego" Brand as soon as Ego was introduced
1:07 I'm not from earth. I'm from Missouri.
True
You're biggest sinssinssin is that you don't have a separate acappella Channel. Please sing science Wars!
Your biggest sin is sounding like Alex from IHE at 9:05
The "fathers leave, no need to be a pussy." Is a reference to Iron Man 3.
3 WEEKS TO CINEMASINSSINSSINS PART 2
The beginning part is necessary actually because they made Adam warlock who will be a very important character later in MCU
3:09 My only guess would be that since they're shown to be very image obsessed, this would be something that also translates into battle, but that might be a stretch.
Missed sin: the fact that CinemaSins even made a video about GOTG2 because that is pure cinematic perfection and should now be the reference point for any and all other attempts at piecing footage together
GOTG2 IS MY FAVOURITE MARVEL FILM/ANY FILM/THING THAT EXISTS FITE ME
One of your biggest mistakes, is assuming that Mr. incredible was being literal.
Your sin-sound is so much more satisfying. Same with your “everything wrong with.”
Actually Peter's mask does give him air, it's not just for battle. We see this in guardians vol 1 when he saves gamora outside of knowhere
14:32 I’m pretty sure this is a reference to Iron Man 3 when Stark tell the kid this.
Wait.... did he say 48 Star Trek movies? And the enterprise crashes into a forest in all of them???????????? What universe did he visit?
No I'm pretty sure the Luke x chewbaca thing happened
There was about one sin sin for every two sins. Nice job, Jay!
1:02 I would totally watch... oh for-freaking-get it.
I didn’t catch the Mapstravaganza reference the first time round, can’t believe I only now just realise haha!
My biggest cinemaSinsSins SIN is that you did a video for the emoji move. Sorry but that flick DESERVES EVERY SIN CINEMASINS GAVE IT.
4:40 I wanted to follow this up with a pun about Peter Quills Dad, but it left me
I love that purring that your computer does. Reminds me of old NerdCubed ;)
I love Jay's stuff about the hammer and axe XD
Yes on the feels stuff. I think this was the only MCU movie to make me actually cry a bit at the end...
Immediate sub. Hahahaha I've watched Cinema sins for a while but this is even better. Great job tearing this shit apart
Cinema sins biggest sin is that they take everything out of context
At 8:52 you would have the time out to explain song. That would have fit there really well.
I get how some folks can not care for the Marvel movies. I love them, but tastes among humans is varied and nuanced so I certainly wouldn't fault someone who didn't like seeing, and keeping up with, all the Marvel films. But GotG2? Not liking that is akin to not having a soul. :D
12:40 "Are you sure about that?"
Well, maybe not 80 percent, but that ship showed no signs of stopping and was above her.
The ship could've pulled up then spun around, it would've been very easy to pick her off if she tried running towards the ship.
Thank you so much Cinemasinsins for doing all this. I love your videos! Cinemasins irritates me.
You make me happy, Jay
03:31 also showing later on, it shown they’re not a fan of using up resources.Their main deal is to make perfect humans, Not to fight but rocket pissed them off. Watch the end credit scene.
Just to share, the line “Dads leave, no need to be a pussy about it.” is a direct Iron Man 3 quote from Tony. ( th-cam.com/video/-k_56dpP3H0/w-d-xo.html ) And trust me, I’m not defending CinemaSins with this, just adding clarification.
This was an excellent video, thanks for your work!
Well it’s a different form of hammer since...Er....by marvel standards it’s fantasy😅
I'm just thankful Jeremy didn't make a Farscape referenced Sin with the Ben Browder cameo. Given he makes so many Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who (but missed it with Gone with 60 Seconds for some reason).
19:56
It's strange to hear that after watching Endgame
“Why did they attack them to this extent for stealing a battery?”
Because the movie already established that they’re easy to piss off
I’ll give him some credit because the “Dad’s leave, no need to be a pussy” is something Tony Stark said to the kid in Iron Man 3
3:43 "... That's why there's no such thing as battlefield medics! Everyone's either fine or dead!" xD
Your biggest sin was 2:52 on Everything Wrong With "Everything Wrong With Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones Part 2"
11:38 No? In the end credits Star Lord is talking to teenage Groot who says "I am GroOoOt" to which Star Lord replies with "I am not boring!" Which means not only Rocket can understand Groot.
"Rocket can understand Groot so why can't Groot understand?"
Well, aside from Jay's points here - Groot is also a literally toddler so, ya know, he struggles a bit...
