"I know people have got to have places to live but for goodness sake people have gotta have places to drink aswell". That's like poetry 😂. Excellent video, keep up the good work mate, looking forward to where you go next 🍻
I've loved all your beer related videos Simon, but this video has just elevated you and your channel to a whole new level! ... bloody brilliant work! Thank you..
The architecture of the old buildings is truly magnificent. When I think of what a UK brewery looks like, I picture that old Brains building. Looks like it is straight out of the 19th century. Really enjoyed this! Great content, Si.
Really enjoyed the video Si, I've never been to Cardiff, so nice to get some of the history of the breweries and a look at some of the bars, cheers mate 👍🍺👌🙂
This is great Si. Top quality content. I need a night out in town again soon - so many places I didn't know were there now - and I only live on the outskirts - shameful!!
Remember the smell in the mornings when Brains Brewery was in the centre? Going to school in the 80s, walking through town… don’t really know what the smell was: people would say it was the hops (I presume they were roasting). Not everyone like the smell… but I LOVED it.
When I visited Cardiff I also went to Brewmonster. Great pub. The gentleman who served you also served me. Great service. I wish to go back again some day soon.
The Albert, now the Yard, was the brewery tap. I went on a tour of the old Brain's brewery around 1974 with the Cathays High School Scientific Society, to observe the brewing processes! We had several free pints of SA upstairs in the Albert. The former Cambrian, which closed around 30 years ago, was an amazing pub. There was a small back room, where the ladies of the night entertained their clients! The legendary Dan O'Neill was in the main bar (and me) on the final night. The main bar was a mix of local characters, including Nobby, a homeless man, who used to take his possessions in a shopping trolley, and bring it into the pub with him..Most of the great old Brain's pubs have gone - Custom House, Salutation, Albert, Fishguard, Quebec. Very sad.
Fascinating - plenty of history and info I wish I knew at the time. I was down in Cardiff last year during pandemic (couldn't get into Head of Steam as was pre-bookings only). Definitely heading back soon..
So glad you took me to brains brewery. Its a shame its gone now. I was in Cardiff a while ago and it'll never be the same without the brewery there. Great video Simon. 👍
This is brilliant. Watching this in China and love Cardiff. So many changes in the pubs in town. Wonderful. Keep doing this mate and look forward to sharing a pint next time back in UK !!
Bloody marvellous! I used to live in Grangetown, and as a kid used to train spot at Grangetown station! Happy days, and great vid. Love it! Still like the Old Arcade though, when I come home.
Great timing for this video - will be in Cardiff next weekend for the football, will make sure to give most of these pubs a try. Really looking forward to it.
I’ve been in the Cambrian Tap it was a wonderful pub that’s where I had my first ever Barry Island ipa. The pie and mash was amazing as well as I recall.
That was awesome ! I’m unlikely to ever visit Cardiff seeing that I live at the exact opposite side of the Earth but that was a very cool tour. Thank you so much. Looking forward to some other craft brew tours throughout the UK. Cheers !
The head of steam in Liverpool is great. I do remember when it used to be in Lime street station some years ago, it was proper run down. There is a wetherspoons there now.
What a fantastic video. Been to Cardiff many times, but only a few times on a night out. Got to say, one thing I love about Simon is the fact that not one shit is given when recording in public!
I’ll be coming down from Scotland to Cardiff at the end of June for a concert at the principality stadium. Hopefully I’ll find a good few pubs to whet the whistle 😀🍺🍺🍺
Great video Simon. The Cardiff beer scene has certainly changed massively over the years. Like you, I loved the City Arms and the Cambrian but, sadly, no more. That said, it's great to see Mad Dog and Brew Monster in the centre. Anyone visiting Cardiff, please visit them - their beers are great and they need your support (unlike Marstons!!!).
I'm really pleased to see you add this type of feature to your channel. My missus and I were talking about this a while back and thought it would be a great thing to do with your channel and here you are doing it! Great work Simon.
Didn't we go to City Arms when I visited years ago? Shame its gone downhill. Also a big shame with Brains! Kinda nostalgic to watch this, a lot of stuff for sure happened since I visited last! Cheers mate!
great video, not really been into Cardiff for a beer since Christmas 2019 but I did notice "The Cottage" on St Mary St had closed when I passed it a couple of weeks ago, for a craft beer bar the Hop Bunker was always my favourite
Great video. Look forward to Newport. Bristol will be great. Think I've mentioned before not far from Temple Meads you got that great Left Handed Giant bar 👍
This looks like a typical awesome Saturday to us, we love the Cardiff craft beer scene! I'm in a few craft beer groups on Facebook and people often make posts asking where they should go in Cardiff. I think I'm just going to share this video with them in future, it gives a very good picture of what's going on.
Can't believe you didn't mention The Albert where the Yard is. Proper pub. Memories of going in there for a couple before going to the Arms Park on international day
You would never see this in Ireland north or south, or on very rare occasions were you would have to search out these bars, great to see Cardiff offering this selection of craft beers, I really need to pay the city a visit.
Why? From the fine Ireland. Big tensions along the way there, but can we (they) move on now? Too soon for some. Both the North and Ireland are loved by many. Is there a song we can all sing?
Have you checked out Pop ‘n Hops, Simon? It’s a few doors down from Discount Supermarket (magic beer shop). My favourite beer shop in town, and they often have 10 taps on!
Looks like a nice city, massive pain in the arse to get to for myself and many others I'd imagine. I love head of steam pubs, they suit literally everyone, can take your missus, your mam or even the lads who just want san miguel. That spoons building is lovely. I wouldn't mind doing Tiny Rebel one day, got a soft spot for Stay Puft, I've had Mad Dog stuff and had no idea they were in Cardiff.
Great video Simon. Glad you went to Brew Monster at the end, I went there before the rugby in March. Bloody great tap house with great staff. Hope you do more of these around Wales and the UK🏴 cheers 🍻
Great video Simon, Good to see a few new venues opened up. Im in Cardiff in September so looking forward to checking them out. Come down to Exeter & check out our beer scene.👍🏼🍻
Brilliant tour of Cardiff Simon, A great shame about the demise of Brains Brewery. Back in the day a good friend of mine lived near Cardiff and I used to love a pint of Brains SA on cask. Interesting that the Tiny Rebel pub seemed to have a lot of cask hand pumps as this is what they have always been good at. Top video keep up the good work 👏 🙌
Nice video mate, if you ever come down to Brighton you must go to the Evening Star where Dark Star was born, and then eventually someone involved branched off and started Burning Sky (notice the juxtaposing names) but anyway the Evening Star is very close to the train station and has one of the best beer selections you'll find in the UK, and great prices. Also shoutout to the Patch in Lewes which is 15 minutes on the train from Brighton!
Need to do Manchester. So many good brewery's. Cloudwater and track are just two that I'll mention and right next to each other but loads off fantastic places like Gas lamp
Please don't include Robinsons in that, it has to be the worst beer in the history of brewing. That trooper stuff they did with iron maiden is like brown drain water. If I was in the Sahara on my last legs it would be a very close call whether to die or drink that bilge.
@@liamcorey3839 it's " made" in Stockport or it was. Hopefully health and safety have shut it down. Absolute waste of water and whatever else they put in it. Think of it as the Fred and Rose West of beers. Avoid it at all costs. They did bitters, lagers, milds and fucked every one of them. If you see a Robinsons pub in the north of England go to the next pub.
You are rapidly becoming a national treasure, old chap.
Cardiff really is a dump. Poor Simon's enthusiasm really can't take away from the fact it is an utter toilet.
Great video, thanks! Next up Whitchurch Road Discount Supermarket?!
"I know people have got to have places to live but for goodness sake people have gotta have places to drink aswell". That's like poetry 😂. Excellent video, keep up the good work mate, looking forward to where you go next 🍻
Visiting Cardiff for the first time on Saturday and can't wait to try some of these out!
Man it’s so refreshing to see a TH-camr be himself in every vid, keep up the great work mate👊🏻
Jumping Jacks lol. That was a blast from the past. Gassy Jacks too ha! Walkabout you were thinking of! Aussie bar!
Love these types of videos where I get to see more of the area you live in. Cheers
Good old Cardiff :) Thank you for the tour mate!
Fantastic Si, I was hoping you'd do a video like this! Now I know where to go when next visiting Cardif
Really enjoyed the video Si, I've never been to Cardiff, so nice to get some of the history of the breweries and a look at some of the bars, cheers mate 👍🍺👌🙂
I really enjoyed this! I haven’t been to Cardiff for years. It looks like it’s changed quite a bit
Yes! Can’t wait to watch this. The series a great idea Simon. Get up to Glasgow I’ll buy you a pint!
This is great Si. Top quality content. I need a night out in town again soon - so many places I didn't know were there now - and I only live on the outskirts - shameful!!

I have been really enjoyed this format of video! Really interesting. Thanks!
Had no idea that Cardiff was such a mecca for craft beer. It's now on the list of beer places to visit. Great video.
What a great video, I'm in Cardiff September so this is really helpful. Thanks STC!
When I visited Cardiff I also went to Brewmonster. Great pub. The gentleman who served you also served me. Great service. I wish to go back again some day soon.

So glad you took me to brains brewery. Its a shame its gone now. I was in Cardiff a while ago and it'll never be the same without the brewery there. Great video Simon. 👍
Excellent video as always. You are a natural! 👍🙂
As a South African, always fun to spot the Nando's in Europe. And I frequented the original started by Fernando in Rosettenville
This is brilliant. Watching this in China and love Cardiff. So many changes in the pubs in town. Wonderful. Keep doing this mate and look forward to sharing a pint next time back in UK !!
Great vid Simon, nice to see you out and about doing these. James seemed a nice chap too 👍🍻
Love this Si!👍 Nothing like beer and exotic locations! Keep up the good work.
Bloody marvellous! I used to live in Grangetown, and as a kid used to train spot at Grangetown station! Happy days, and great vid. Love it! Still like the Old Arcade though, when I come home.
I recently had an afternoon session in Head of Steam and I was like a kid in a sweet shop. Absolutely amazing selection of craft beers.
Went to uni down there, not been in Cardiff since '06, man how it's changed. Great work, Simon, hope to see you up Wrexham way one day.
si, this is definitely your area. i am for sure looking forward to more of these 🤙🏾

Great video Simon, I like the walkabouts you are doing on the pubs and old brewery's in Cardiff. Thank you
Love the channel, Si seems like a great bloke, love Cardiff, love Wales, love beer, love bars, it’s a 10/10 for me STONE THE CROWS!
Scaredy Cats from the people who brought you Bubs is now open. Badged as a cafe but with some awesome craft ales. Well worth a look see.
Cool tour Simon! Cardiff looks like a very interesting place to wander about.
Always been a fan SI and you’ve helped me discover a load of beers over the years.
Brilliant visit....Visiting to watch the Springboks taking on Wales at the Millennium Stadium and having a few beers with Simon

Great video really enjoyed it i love the old pubs you can’t beat them sadly not many left 👍
I've been to every single one of those pubs/tap houses.
I love Cardiff. Just an amazing city to drink in.
Great content as always.👍
Awesome vid mate! You should do one just for Canton mind! We got Flowerhorn the one end, Pipes the other end, Crafty Devil in the middle! Cheers!
Great job on this one cheers from Maine!

One of your best videos Simon
Didn't we go to City Arms when I visited years ago? Shame its gone downhill. Also a big shame with Brains! Kinda nostalgic to watch this, a lot of stuff for sure happened since I visited last! Cheers mate!
Dublin is a must Beer visit. Apart from the Guinness Brewery, we have, to name a small few, Porterhouse Central and a Brewdog Outpost.

Hoping to be heading to Cardiff for a certain playoff final next Sunday. (With Scotland 🤞🏼)
This was a good little warm up tour of what pubs to hit.
Excellent vid, such a shame so many have either closed or been diluted.
Will be visiting beer monster for sure.
Great video - enjoyed that! Shame about Hopbunker closing fairly recently too.
Can't believe you didn't mention The Albert where the Yard is. Proper pub. Memories of going in there for a couple before going to the Arms Park on international day
Ah! I forgot the name of it to be honest, yes I vaigly remember the Albert

Simon! That was a great tour! I felt like I was there! I want to tour the UK someday with my family and I am going to add Cardiff to the list!
Nice job Simon, next time get there when everything is open so you can have a pint at each spot. Cheers!👍🏻🍻
Have you checked out Pop ‘n Hops, Simon? It’s a few doors down from Discount Supermarket (magic beer shop). My favourite beer shop in town, and they often have 10 taps on!

It’s on my to do list mate, but want to make a separate video for them.
Is it in Canton?
@@tobyjackman3212 Its on western avenue near fairwater

I visited The City Arms and Tiny Rebel pub in 2019
Great video Simon. Glad you went to Brew Monster at the end, I went there before the rugby in March. Bloody great tap house with great staff. Hope you do more of these around Wales and the UK🏴 cheers 🍻
Hello again 🙂 said last night I'd say hello on here coz of your break you're having 🙂🍺🍻
Hello Simon. Are you planning to visit Wroclaw Beer Fest this year?? It would be great to meet there...
We were looking to visit at some point
Sadly it seems like there aren't enough places to sup good stuff ..
That porter looks great though
Crafty Devil are hands down the best brewery in Cardiff by my reckoning.
I'm pretty sure I want to go to Cardiff now.
BrewMonster & The Head of Steam are my go-tos in the city centre. The Lansdowne in Ninian Park is absolutely worth the trek also
Great video Simon, Good to see a few new venues opened up. Im in Cardiff in September so looking forward to checking them out. Come down to Exeter & check out our beer scene.👍🏼🍻
Superb video Simon! Really enjoyed that 🙂
That's the one I'd have chosen! Good taste obviously lol
Newcastle would be great as well with full circle and Wylam two of my favourites

Noted, I would like to cover as many places as possible :-)
The North laine here in Brighton brew their own stuff too with all the equipment on show behind the bar
The Cricketers, Druids, Pump House Some great pubs down here. :-)

@@ripsaw570 That's the one
A new one opened last week called Scaredy Cats. Same owners from Bubs.
Well deserved pint mate 👏 👍
