Hey! Nice video! :) I have A200 with DCT. Usually it is lagging when i use it in traffic especially shifting 1. and 2. gears back and forth. What dou you think softwear updates on motor and transmission softwear ? Could help something ? Really annoying this lagging and also hear some noisy too. The other gears are okay. I experineced in Sport mode not doing it every time, strange.... Diesel engines do the same ? They have more basic power to roll over the gears. Thank you for your answer.
Hi @brian so basically the steps are: 1. Turn key to 2nd on position (cluster lights turn on) 2. Hold down gas pedal for at least 10 secs 3. Turn key to off position (cluster lights turn off) 4. Hold down gas pedal for additional 10 secs at least. 5. Let go of gas pedal. 6. Start car and drive round for 15-20 mins so the adaptive gearbox can relearn the way I drive. Is this correct?
I prefere manual, but it its so hard to find in new cars. Yes DCT shifts super fast at medium and high speeds (like a race car), but when problems occure after warranty, maintenance will be expensive.
thanks for the information. never knew this trick. I bought a 2019 C43 brand new and wanted to do a proper break-in so I drove it extremely carefully so it might be a little sluggish. Are the changes noticeable?
I try this trick on Benz glc 220 it works just remember u need to remove the key after reset and press the gas paddle full until it touch the floor and engine check inndication gone
I have a 2013 W204 and do a lot of stop/start in heavy traffic & after a month or so the shift changes get all screwed up, particularly the down shifts, often in 4th going around a corner making it really sluggish. Anyway, so reset mine every month & it's like new again. Do you know if after a reset if you changed up/down manually for 15min would it remember that shift pattern when in drive? Or does it only adapt when in drive?
Appreciate you posting a video as it is nice to see the exact make and model. I’ve been doing this reset on the adaptive transmission and it fixes for a short period. After a while, the engine will actually shut off while idling at a light. I’m wondering if this is a transmission issue or something different. Just want to be informed before I connect with a mechanic. Cheers
Can you tell me more wich problems you had with the transmission? I have also a Cla 220 and in traffic the car doesn’t change good anymore, and I can’t change to sport modus or manual. When I arrived home next day it’s good again. Is this one of the symptoms?
What you’re describing is just the Mercedes 7 speed drive characteristics. You can reset the transmission like in this video, but if it makes you feel better, the transmission will last forever if you change the fluid and filter every 50-60k miles.
Nice video! Thank you! :) Most of the time i use my W176 (A200) in ECO mode in the city and Comfort mode in the highways. After the restart, when should i change between the modes to relearn both ?
guys stop driving in eco mode for benz from 2017+ it jumps always between N and D which is not cool for the transmission, relearn your gearbox in comfort mode and keep using it.
Bow I can’t argue with that lol. I was told by a Mercedes sales associate that it was one of the top reasons that customers traded for the 9G when it came out.
Brian M yeah actually been looking to trade up too but I been seeing comments about 9G tronic have problems here and there too. Not sure Mercedes in house transmission development is their specialty haha
I don't know where you're all from, but in Germany the 7G-Tronic is still one of the best transmissions around, only transmissions by ZF in some BMWs are better. I have a 7G-Tronic in my E-Class Coupé as well, and it's about perfect. Very good shifting patterns in all drive modes, not sluggish at all, very smooth and perfectly timed gear changes. Maybe the production quality varies a lot depending on the region or country. Just can't see the problems you are all describing in german made models.
@@FrejrNA haha I think this is specific to w205 c class models. There’s a gremlin in shifting logic the first gear goes up to 3500rpm then jerks to second. Or maybe mine was made in South Africa 😂
@@ssisakl That actually sounds horrible. Well, it's possible that only the 205 facelift models with the 7G-Tronic+ have that stuff going on. No matter what the normal 7G-Tronic is the better transmission, they had to make a lot of shitty changes with the 7G-Tronic+ to make Start-Stop (as we call it in Germany) and all that eco kinda stuff possible. I'm assuming that most of you got the W205 sedan, which I think is always made in South Africa. In Germany the station wagon version, S205, is far more popular than the sedan (about 80% are station wagons), and those are all made in Bremen, Germany.
I absolutely HATE this transmission. Only had mine for 2 months, & already want something else. Adaptive transmission has to be one of the worst design ides ever.
It has zero warranty implications. When you go get service done at the dealership you can ask them to reset it for you and they can do it in seconds with their Mercedes system.
I think it’s common fault Mercedes needs to at least have recall my gearbox takes the absolute piss my gear box in every mode whether it’s comfort eco sport or sport+ the gears take soooo long to change like mines a diesel as well it shouldn’t do that but Mercedes need to fix this
Has nothing to do with diesel or not. I got a 9g and it's a diesel with 770 nm! Shifts great, you do need to however reset your tranny shifting Programm from time to time. It's just the city driving that makes the computer learn to shift so shitty... Just do this and it will be fine. Also try shifting yourself from time to time. Hold the gears longer etc...
Do it again and do it twice in case you have an issue the first time. Also, when you go drive it afterwords, if you want quicker shifts (at least in the non AMG - yours might be too sporty) put it in sport mode for 15 minutes of city driving.
There’s no reason it would not work on the GLE 63. Pro tip: if you think you didn’t wait long enough just repeat the process. It wouldn’t undo anything!
@@MuskTeslaY 2017 will definitely work. Just know newer Mercedes transmissions can shift more firm, but they put these in commercial and military equipment all over the world and they are know for longevity.
It should work. Drive it easy in normal mode for 20 minutes afterwards and it will help smooth out the shifts. About one day a month I put mine in sport mode and drove it 30-45 minutes in city traffic and it seemed to help. I recently traded it off for a 2021 Jeep Wrangler.
@@bmddlton wow. I have noticed a hard shifting lately. I have done this before but I didn't hear a click. When I would do this with my 2015 Acura mdx I would listen for a click and would hear it. With this 2017 Gls I can't hear a click. Did you noticed this with yours?
@@kimh113 honestly the behavior of the Mercedes transmissions is just a driving characteristic that customers have to live with. The trade off is the longevity you get AS LONG AS you change your transmission fluid and filter every 50-60k miles. It’s shifts are garbage, but it should last forever.
Thank you! My C300 feels like new again.

That is the start stop function for fuel saving which your car has. It's the big ECO button on the central dashboard.
My C300 has the same issue with stalling at lights. How do you permanently shut off the Eco ability?
I'm having a problem with the low gear shift 4-3-2-1 sometimes going from 5-4 to 2nd gear would this be solved by trying something like this?

It's BS. You cannot reset the gearbox adaptation without a DAS/Xentry system.
