Just did the same project on my FXR a couple months ago. Stator, rotor, regulator and battery. My recommendation is make sure your gasket surfaces are properly prepped, and replace all of o-rings on the shifter shaft while it is open. Mark where the long bolts go on the primary cover with a sharpie. And be prepared to use a little heat when getting those primary and clutch nuts loose.
Man you nailed it with sharpie advice, that was one we had to remember on which went to what and got it right the first time. I appreciate the support and for the feedback!
Thank you, brother. Very cool. Incredibly helpful and easy to follow. Hadn't done a stator before on any of my bikes and your video was awesome! Keep up the good work fellas.
Wow great job, I have a 2008 Sportster that I believe needs a new stater and damn I could really use your help and know how. Can't seem to get help with it.
Wow I'm doing that now I bought the hole stator , regulator ,and my new magito hits the two little screws and that piece of plastic? Should I use the old one , and the harley shop told me no more than 100lbs on the compensator 1994 fxdwg???
I wish TH-cam would allow me to post a picture. I saw you wiggled out the gear. I can not for the life of me get it loose. I’m trying to figure out how you did it.
I have a 2003 Fatboy I need to do this on. How important do you think that lift is to getting the job done? I'm not a mechanic, just a DIYer. I work on my car and my son's so I have some tools. Also, where would you recommend I get that gear block from?
I need to replace my stator I replaced the voltage regulator drag specialist now I'm doing the stator and bot sure which stator to use on a 2005 fatboy flstf and input would help thank you
That compensator nut is a bear! Tried a 1/2" drive breaker bar with 2' cheater pipe, was a no go. Need more muscle but breaking the breaker bar seems a concern. ???
I didn't know they made stuff for other's. But yes Cycle Electric is the best, one of the top companies who truly makes a better part then what Harley could produce.
Appears it was just a lose connection. Use a volt meter and check the AC voltage out put of stator and ohem out the stator to see if it's in spec also check for conuity between stator and primary to make sure its not grounded out to the case making sure its bad before replace. Also check output of the votage regulator in DC volts at about 2000 rpm should be 13v-14.6 v I've delt with lots of charging issues in air cooled motors usually the stator don't go bad unless damaged from something
do not know how you get to that stator soooo easy...my 05 dyna is hard has hell to try and get magnet off...spent 2hrs..got dark ..had to stop til morning...will see how much longer it will take
Nice how to video bro Quick tech tip Do yourself a favor and buy yourself a rotor puller. They're pretty cheap on Amazon and they're very helpful for this stuff. Letting the rotor slam on the stator like that can potentially disturb the glue content that holds them magnets together and the magnets can break away from the rotor and then you'll have another charging issue Nice video, jus had to say somethin Keep wrenching
@@freebirdsgarage Yea no doubt bro. I jus would hate for it to happen to u or someone else. I jus did a stator n rotor on a 07 low rider and some of the starters have the magnets protected by a layer of stainless steel. The magnets aren't exposed like the older ones which I think is pretty cool. Gives it that extra layer of protection
There is a tool, but you can use the two allen tools to pry it out. Gotta be careful not to let go and slam it, it'll cause the magnets to break loose.
LOL I ordered a new stator at the Harley Dealership, they insisted I order a new VR as well, I said no I just put in a new Cycle electric VR. Parts Girl said yeah those are made by Parts specialties and they are junk. I said no they are made in Ohio, they are their own company, she looked at me like I was the asshole
Great Information and detailed step by step Instructions! Thank You! Im working on my Daughters 99 Fat boy.
Thank you!
Great video, my buddy is planning on doing this repair on his FXR and this is definitely helpful! Thanks guys
Glad to help!
Thanx Jay you should have been a school teacher in the shop program your my new go too person. Rocko
Wow, thanks!

Thanks for this video, it helps a lot the first time.
I'm so glad I had to take the stator out because the big primary bolt was and hand loose😮
Glad it helped!!
Just got done with my stator. My bike is running like a champ! Thanks again fellas!
Nice work!

Thank you and I'm glad it helped!!
About to change mine on my 1992 flhtcu. Hopefully it goes as smooth as your video. Thank you for sharing
I hope so too!
Another killer video! Love the FXR videos can’t wait for the big video coming from you this fall!
Thank you sir!! 👊
Wow great job, I have a 2008 Sportster that I believe needs a new stater and damn I could really use your help and know how. Can't seem to get help with it.
Highly suggest getting a Harley service manual, it's key on making sure it comes off and on right.
Great teaching video! Thank you so much for this. Now I feel ready to do the job right!
Right on! I'm glad to hear it helped you out 👊

It shouldn't hit and you may have some of the spacers on wrong that would cause that.
Thanks for the video, very helpful😁 fix my bike today. Running perfect now
Great to hear!
How did you get the crank shaft loose to pull it out?
Do you mean the compensator?
I wish TH-cam would allow me to post a picture. I saw you wiggled out the gear. I can not for the life of me get it loose. I’m trying to figure out how you did it.
Never mind. I actually got it off….. carry on lol
What size socket for the compensator I’m doing my 2003 Electra glide ultra classic
Depends if you haven't already found out 5 speed is 1-1/2 or it could be 1-3/16

Love the how to vids! Thanks Bro
Glad you like them!
I need to replace my stator I replaced the voltage regulator drag specialist now I'm doing the stator and bot sure which stator to use on a 2005 fatboy flstf and input would help thank you
Cycle electric is the only way to go, I wouldn't recommend anyone else
That compensator nut is a bear! Tried a 1/2" drive breaker bar with 2' cheater pipe, was a no go. Need more muscle but breaking the breaker bar seems a concern. ???
It should, I had some major flex in the bar before it broke loss
Heat the compensator nut up with heat gun or use handheld propane torch carefully..it will breakdown tge over use of locktite on nut/shaft
What size breaker bar
I ended up using a bar that's for my jack. I think it was 2ft long
Awesome video I appreciate you guys. Good job 😅😅
Thank you so much 😁
How to change the mail before and that was the easiest way to do it and the fastest way thank you so much keep up the good work God bless
You're welcome!
Awesome video thank you 🙌
Glad you liked it!
Good info !! Thanks, I got to do mine on 93 Evo engine
Right on! Good luck on the repair 👊
You ever replace a stator on a 2008 heritage softail
I have not
Great video! Very informative. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
You made it look easy
Thank you!!
Ok, I'm fixing to go replace the stator on my 06 Sportster. Wish me luck.....
Good luck!
Cycle electric make the best charging system parts, but I believe they also make them for other companies

Thanks for the tip! It's definitely something I should of told anyone doing it. Don't let it slam it can cause those magnets to loosen up.

Why not just inch it to the max then going from one number to another?
I just state "exactly" what is wrote in the service manual. Other wise, yes there is no reason why you couldn't do that.
I've tried for a hour to get mine apart without taking clutch apart impossible 😅
They can be stubborn, but if you go it off that's all that matters
😅😊😅😅😅😅😊😊😊Thank God for you & all you do
Any time my friend!!
My stator magnet is not that easy cannot it get off to save my life
There is a tool, but you can use the two allen tools to pry it out. Gotta be careful not to let go and slam it, it'll cause the magnets to break loose.
@@freebirdsgarage thanks man worked like a charm too
Stator shoes dont wear down ever after time...
Why do all these stator repair videos include annoying/loud background music? ...... my search continues
🤔
Got that 70s jazz porn music going on

Cycle electric is #1 for reason 💪
Why are you changing it what wrong.😢
Battery wasn’t charging
Too much red loctite will make it EXTREMELY difficult to remove next time...2 drops will do
You just have to get the premium parts, so you don't have to take it apart again lol
