btw, i performed for him in a guitar master class years ago... and he's quite humble. a great teacher... and a TRUE MUSICIAN. quite often guitarists are guitarists first.... but one has to be a musician first. Even my violin colleagues love his playing... it surpasses what the violin can do with this piece. and that's pretty rare.
I remember buying the double cd when it was issued, many years ago, and hearing this fugue at 4:00 onwards countless times, as if in some sort of trance. It was like a revelation. Galbraith has a coherent, architectonic view of the whole cycle of Bach's sonatas+partitas for violin. In my opinion, it has never sounded better.
He is hands down, one of the worlds best players -- especially for works by Bach and Haydn.. He plays the guitar with the clarity and polyphony of a piano, yet retains a true guitar and event lute sound. I've never heard any other guitarist who can handle polyphony as he does... He plays haydn straight from the piano score... as written!!! This is in part due to the extra bass and higher treble strings of his 8 string guitar. I've never heard a guitarist play works of such complexity.
The Fugue sounds beyond incredible. Starts around 4 min. I had the pleasure of seeing Galbraith perform this past weekend, his arranged Haydn pieces are fantastic.
from Jose the Hermeterec.......689 views of this TH-cam offering????? I cannot believe it. This man should be lionized, this man is genius on this instrument. Fabulous technique and tremendous feeling for what the genius who composed this marvellous creation was getting at. This is the BEST rendition of this fugue I have evr heard, the most coherent. Listen and marvel, yiou slackers!
I don't know about any of you, but when I hear Bach, peace is the last thing I have. Bach makes me think, even if I'm trying to relax. That is a good thing, and as any good schoolmaster would advocate, makes the student a better one. I think Bach would have thoroughly enjoyed this.
from Jose', the Hermeterec..........I don't even know why I started this comment.....words fail me. AS great as ANYONE I've ever heard in my LIFE! This man is an Avatar.
from The Kid From Brasil, Jose' the Hermeterec..........every time I play this thing I am positively stupefied by it! My God, this guy is great!!!! I challenge anybody out there to find a better recording of ANY bBach piece than this! C'mon,,,,,,take a shot, I'm waiting.

Actually, I couldn't wait for the CDs, so I bought it on iTunes, and thoroughly enjoying it. Also, I highly recommend the Paul Galbraith Debussy / Ravel album. It is superb.
Galbraith is such a wonderful performer, but I think you would also enjoy Hopkinson Smith's interpretations - extremely musical and conveying considerable insight into polyphonic intentions.
Please correct Adagio into Grave. There' s a huge difference between these two tempos. Grave goes from 25-45 bpm, while Adagio goes from 66-76. Nevertheless, thanks for connecting these two movements!
Sick. Just sick. Galbraith is a genius. The Glenn Gould of guitar.

I also performed for him in a master class, and agree with everything you said. He's a phenomenal musician; truly unique among classical guitarists!

I don't see how anyone can play this piece any better on any instrument. His virtuosity and musicality are just beyond words.
This music and this performance should be heard to all people - as this great miracle!
Heard his version of the lute suites and was forever changed. Everything he plays makes me want to pick up my guitar and practice.
Yamashita and Galbraith created new horizons for the classical guitar.
Great hearing this Master guitarist again...

Amazing, especially the Fugue.

A great musician. Once you've heard him, this is all it's possible to listen to on the guitar
I giggle when people give only rock guitar players props, as if masters like this don't exist.
i feel peace & love with this music... Maestro Paul Galbraith fantastic Bach
One of best performaces ever i heard!!

I guess, Julian Bream was as happy about this interpretation than me. 🌌
My guitar just got up and walked off
This kind of playing shouldn't even be legal !!!
haha - it makes me want to throw my guitar in the bin and run away :-)

This is ridiculous!
It is another instrument. A very great performance by a true musician, but...a guitar without the soul, or the harpsichord without the energy.
