I have started to feel like Chanel is attempting to become Hermes. I’ve gone to the boutique in my area quite a few times and they constantly tell me they don’t have the bags that I want. I told them to let me know because I don’t have an interest in driving up there multiple times a week just to purchase a bag I know I want to buy. They give me the vibes that my service isn’t welcome because this would be my first Chanel bag. I don’t understand why a sales associate can’t just text me when the bag is in so that I can come buy it. They keep giving me the runaround.

    • @jordynn55

It’s really a shame . About 7 years ago I had saved for a new pair of sunglasses. I showed up in pouring rain in a wet polo puff coat from Ross . I got treated extremely well , was shown so many glasses , I even bought earrings as well because I was actually being treated like a real customer and as a disabled person I hadn’t left the house in months and it was all incredibly exciting. I’ll never forget i got a card from the sales associate later and he was just so nice , gave me the full experience even though I didn’t spend much in the grand scheme of things. Thanks chad , I still think about your amazing personalized service , I think it was the one time I truly had that luxury experience crafted that I think most of these brands aimed to give people at one point.

Their promotion is targeting the masses, use the hierarchy system to make you feel “unworthy” if you didn’t spend enough, so for some ppl, it’s a motivation to “go up” the hierarchy, to be “belong with certain class of ppl” it’s like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey so it keeps working for them, spending money for them, to get the carrot, hence the ads to mass is necessary, maybe it works for newbie of the brand, but may not be those who hv enjoyed the Karl’s era….when I first graduated in 2008, my mum who was then a Chanel client already told me not to buy Chanel as its quality had deteriorated lol

But we should also acknowledge the much lower Hermes apparel prices. While a simple shirt at Hermes will cost you between 500 and 900 dollars… at Chanel you will need to pay 3k and up. I know Chanel is known for their fashion and Hermes is known for their leathers but still, for a luxury brand, Hermes still seems to have a solid foot on the ground when it comes to pricing their luxury apparel. Their style is very different to Chanel’s. I get it. But still, its a very big price difference to me.

Let's be honest though, the big spenders are most likely buying haute couture, not ready-to-wear, right? That's what I would do if I was spending that sort of money!
And the response of your SA is really disappointing. Since she's worked with you for 10 years, she could at least have been straight with you about the new company policy. Sounds like snooty management to me.
Here in the UK, we have a class system. However, people with true class will treat everyone they meet with the same respect and good manners, regardless of their social status.

Would love a follow up on pre-orders. Their new business strategies are clearly geared to maximise revenue and favouring only the very wealthy clients - at some point their decline in quality will no longer be tolerated by those who are in the top percentile of the elite.
My brand new $1000 chanel sunnies had the logo of the frame fall off after a month of wear, faux pearls from $1600 earrings falling off after a few months of wear…my personal experiences and the list goes on….was going to pull the trigger on a classic medium sized flap bag at the boutique (had a small size one already) this week - only to find out the price has gone up from $11.700 to almost $16,000 in just over a month! My Hermes SA is very open when asked about the store policies. A client has to accumulate a purchase history of any items, except bags before the client is given the opportunity to buy a bag. I understand this marketing strategy. Their bag inventory is limited and they need to sell their other items too. But what Chanel is doing is perplexing and not to mention, their quality is far from impeccable.

Wow! This is terrible and wrong. Dacob you have been a fan and buyer of Chanel for a long time and that should mean something to them. I have always been confused by the sales invites to the bigger spender customer approach for the very reason you stated. They already bought the items via presale at the normal cost. What's the point? I think they forget there are other brands out here that are luxury and quiet luxury at that, with a better price point and quality. Those companies don't require jumping through this nonsensical hoops.

Two issues you touch on here:
    1) boutiques should (regardless of this policy change) carry more larger sizes than 36/38/40!! Most people (women and men) in the US are at least a size 48-50! But even 44/46 are nearly impossible to come by!
    2) interested to hear if you are able to order with someone else. Maybe your SA has other personal issues going on… it’s all I can think because while I am a very loyal CC client I am no where near that level of spend and ordered the same as I always do through my SA. Hopefully this is a coincidence and rumor 🥲

They create VIP lounges. Introduced minimum spend. Take their quality way down, and jack up their prices. They want to push regular consumers out and become exclusive. I bet this is all on purpose and it's some kind of game plan. Thank you for adding evidence to my theory.

Most repeat Chanel customers do not spend 150k at Chanel every year. I can't even imagine anyone WANTING 150k worth of Chanel items every year unless they're buying fine jewelry. No one should feel like they need to waste money on items they do not want just to be offered the opportunity to buy things they actually want. This is especially a huge slap in the face to loyal customers who should be treated with the utmost respect. They want to be Hermes so badly, and yet look at the reviews for any Hermes boutique... 2.5 stars, 3 stars, that's it. The more they devalue their customer experience, the more they alienate themselves from actually building a solid and loyal fanbase.

Hi Dacob, I hope you are having a great day. 🙂 when watching this segment both during the live and in this standalone video, a couple of questions/theories came to my mind. Now, I am just an outsider looking in and I am not on Chanel’s side (I’m neutral). Is one possibility that the (alleged) new pre-order policy was instituted because either: They don’t have enough items available for many customers to pre-order, and are therefore reserved for the top spenders? Or, was the policy (allegedly) instituted because too many customers were requesting pre-orders resulting in there not being enough for the top-spenders to pre-order? If that theory is correct - it would make sense because the top spenders bring in the big money to the boutique - if they’re not able to pre-order items, Chanel could see that possibly as a detriment to their business. I am not saying I agree with this if it is true, but these were theories that came across my mind, and am curious if others suspect this as well … Have a wonderful day and keep the great videos and lives coming.

What would you even spend $150,000 on??? Even if you spend 10k on each item that's 15 items every year and most things don't cost 10k. They are expensive but even your 5k example is 30 items!!! Again that's shopping particularly for what cost the most. Like unless your closet is exclusively Chanel it doesn't really make sense. Is this just luxury fast fashion?? Buy what's in season and then throw it all out before the next. You can't even sell it because most brands don't like when you resell too much. I don't care if I'm the world's first trillionaire I wouldn't do that. Like all of that spending and let's say 40 items a year later just to be able preorder and buy more. No way that's true. Even Hermes as far as I'm aware doesn't make you spend that much. Who knows maybe their plan is to come out with their own 30k bags and I'm not saying that there aren't people out there who don't spend that much but that has to be an exaggeration. Maybe it's one of those things where someone has a friend who can preorder and that's how much she spends and she knows people who spend more or whatever but that isn't actually the minimum.
