I used to be an OT and often recommended kettle tippers to my patients. I've never seen one like the one you used, it looked dangerous. normally you would use the handle of the kettle to control the pour, which gives you more control and stops it tipping over. I dont like the handle on the tipper at all.
Agree, used to teach people how to use them. Often used a permanent marker on a nonslip mat next to the kettle tipper to mark the spot to place the cup.
I got both sets of my grandparents the Ucello kettle after seeing someone use it on Tiktok. It’s basically what Barry showed us here but as a complete kettle. It changed their lives completely as they all have arthritis in the hands, amazing.
I thought there is NO WAY I would have that kettle tipping contraption in my house, it looked flimsy and dangerous. I did think it would be better to use the kettle handle to tip it rather that that flimsy lever, at least then your not actually lifting the kettle but have more control over it.
I am actually glad that the kettle tipped over with cold water in your video. People interested in the kettle-tipper and watching your trial run can now make extra sure nobody gets hurt. ♥️
We considered a kettle cradle for me because I struggled to lift the kettle, I was just shaking soo much the water was going everywhere. I took to leaning the kettle over the side of the sink and pouring into a cup in the sink.. I finally told my husband I couldn't do it any more. And he bought a hot cup. You fill it with a jug or something. Even a cup would work. Then it pours out a measured cup of hot water for you. Kind of like a Nespresso machine but for hot water. My husband tops it up once a week(sometimes more) and all I need to do is press a button.

I’ve had the 5 in 1 opener gadget for about 5/6 years. It’s great and I use it often. The drinks can opener does work if you don’t slide it all the on and lift up slowly. I found using the slot to help start the ring pull on cans before using the hook end helps too.
I've had that "multi opener" for around 10 years. I used the drink can opener by far the most, you don't slot it all the way on and it worked awesome when I was a little kid
The bottle opener was user error, I’m disabled and I’ve used several brands of multi bottle openers and I’ve done this many times before. When you look at the picture on the handle you will see that you just needed to flip it the other direction. Thanks for interesting videos!
@@mrbarrylewis keep them coming! Your videos bring so many smiles, and the fact that its all about family and getting in the kitchen just makes them so much better
Looks like you use the 5 and 1 opener wrong. There is a small indentation on the top for the can rivet to fit into allowing you to get closer to the hole to be able to leverage it better.
Yup, it needed to be pushed further onto the tab. His attempts concentrated the force in the wrong spot, making the tab bend. A bit more focus and I image a user would be able to feel when the gadget is properly aligned and opening as it should.
That was hilarious and also quite worrying. Id be too scared to use the kettle tipper! which is a shame as it would be quite handy for me!! Would love to see you do more mobility aids for the kitchen! Nice kettle BTW I have the same one. My life is complete now i have found my kettle twin!!!!
I had a mentos-coke nozzle that had a magnetic thing inside and a string on the outside so you could screw it on completely and nothing would go in, and then you'd pull the string and it'd drop the mentos in.
i was just thinking what a dumb design, ive still got one from years back that just had a hole and a pin on a string that would hold the mentos until you pulled the string and it would drop them in, sure it had a lil bit of cola shooting out of the hole for the pin but still you didnt get any coke on you lol
The kettle pourer seems risky. It looked like the kettle was about the slide off when tipped and go crashing onto the floor. It would be better to just get a dedicated hot water dispenser for something like that, since you not only don't need to fiddle about with the kettle to refill it, but there's usually just a simple button instead of a lever.
We bought the Aqua Optima water dispenser recently as I have a very weak wrist thanks to an accident some years ago and we live in a very hard water area so the dispenser has a filter. We were going through kettles at a rate of one approximately every 2 years as they started leaking from the base. Didn't matter what brand it was either. The water dispenser is so easy to use - just select how hot you want your water (and if you select "boil" it really does boil the water). I like my coffee cooler and find that 80C works great. Then you select how much you want - for my cup 200ml, press the button and off it goes. You can also press the button again to stop the water flow. I also like that it really chills the water as well so really nice to have chilled water on tap during this hot weather. There is no waiting with this one like there is with others. Works instantaneously. Yes, it was pricey but worth every penny.
@@Pythonaria sounds amazing for those of us with disabilities and difficulties in the kitchen! It's so unfortunate, though, that so many things that are helpful to the disabled are so freaking expensive 😕
@@acaciakapusta8921 It was expensive at just under £200 but a half decent kettle now will set you back anywhere between £40 upwards and we've gone through probably 3 in the past 5 years due to limescale build up. Even a week after descaling a kettle it is full of limescale again. With the Aqua Optima it has a filter and it will tell you when to descale it (eventually). The instructions are to use a vinegar solution so no need to buy expensive descalers. It's also nice to have a cup of tea or coffee without bits of limescale in it.

I have that 5 In 1 device. Got it a few years back. I have read on mine that the one you have trouble with is NOT to open pop cans with, but just to raise the tab easily for opening it up normally aftewards.
My uncle has a much better kettle tipping alternative, it draws up and boils just a cup-full of water then you place the cup below the spout and it comes out like a coffee machine. If you have a bigger cup you just press the button again and it spirts another cup-full out, it really is quick because it boils so little water.

i have something very similar to that opener, except mine opens like pliers so you can fit that bottle cap opener over larger jar lids. i really like it
Folks... there are MUCH easier ways to pour hot water, this kettle tipper looks so dangerous! Now if your partially blind like myself or simply struggle to grasp and lift there are kettles with dispencer spouts. You dont tip it at all just set your cup underneath and push a button. These are very popular in Japan, I have owned a zojirushi brand one for years and I very much reccomend!
i work as a carer and a number of my clients have had kettle tippers, which i have found work really well but the ones i have used you normally use the kettle handle to actually tip the kettle. You can also get a kettle that is built with a tipping base.
I’ve got a very similar Wish version of the 5 in 1, and I find the can ringpull slot is good for lifting the ring enough to get the lever bit in. It slides on better upside down. Never used it for a drink ringpull, but maybe that one would work better upside down too.
Note, i think the reason the soda can opening part didn't work, is because there was no counter leverage pressing down on the part that's supposed to break. When you do it yourself, you put extra weight towards the direction you wish to open by placing either your palm on the opening side of the can, or by pushing down with your thumb on the break spot. That tool put all the leverage on the soda pull tab only, and pivoted at a bad spot. They should have given it a bit that extends past the tab and pushes on the tear strip itself while you pivot.
For the first time I actually own a gadget featured in one of these videos. The can/bottle opener is great. I did have one instance where I got a little too aggressive though and ripped the pull tab off the can.
Thank you for showing and testing helpful gadgets. I've had the micro mate thing for years but only ever thought to use it as a splatter guard so will definitely be putting it to more use now. I'm currently looking for a gadget that can open a can of drink, so knowing the one you showed doesn't work for that is super helpful. I've also only recently become aware of tipping kettles, as it's something that could really help me. I would love to see a video comparing gadgets that do the same thing (such as kettle pouring) with different ways and prices. Would be awesome if you could get an OT to collaborate with to explain what methods are best for what issues (ie which issue a tipping kettle works better for, or one that releases water via a button push, etc).
i have a water cooler that gets the water pretty close to boiling that works great for things like tea, hot cocoa, etc. might be a bit of an expensive solution but i think it's pretty worth it
As a disabled person, I preferred when you said "some of these can be helpful to disabled people" rather than "people with disadvantages." Firstly because disabled isn't a bad word, and secondly because I think being clear helps others to understand what you mean when you say what you say. Just my two cents ☺️
I understand where you are coming from, however other people have told me the opposite. I'll keep working on this, i'm not perfect and apologies if it causes offence
As another disabled/chronically ill person, I have to agree. I don't know any other disabled people/spoonies who would prefer 'disadvantages'. It sounds pitying, I know it's not meant that way. 🙂
Agreed! It‘s not like, a huge issue but as a disabled person I vastly prefer "disabled" over any of the euphemisms that were mostly created because disabled is concidered a bad word largely by non-disabled people. But, I don‘t blame Berry for just going along w something other presumably disabled people told him - that‘s generally best to do :)
Also disabled and also prefer the term "disabled". I wonder if the people who didn't like it are people who are not actually disabled but still need assistance for other reasons? That I can understand!
Hey Barry... For the diet coke and mentos one... There is a gadget called "geyser tube"... Me brother and I used it and the stream must have went 12m high! It was so fun!
I'm disabled and have a hot water kettle that is stationary and uses Brita filters, I only have to put my mug underneath and press the button. Once it boils, the hot water is dispensed straight into the mug. It's been fabulous for me
it's not the can, it's the gadget that's at fault with the soda pull tab. it's just not designed correctly for that. the "sheath" that goes over the tab creates a fulcrum point for the tab to bend around so it fails and breaks instead of opening the can
It's not for opening soda cans all the way. You can use it to lift the tab of a soda can. But it is really meant for the Soup cans that have a pull tab.
the handle part of te 5 in one is only meant to give that first open then you flip it round to use the other side. i have a similar toll and is great for my failing hands
The drink can opener bit from the 5 way opener seems to only help you in gripping the ring pull, so you still have to be careful to not break it like usual. I swear they keep making these ring pulls flimsier and flimsier by the day. Would be very useful if you have trouble grabbing the relatively small ring pull.
Would the coke and mentos fountain thing work better if you screwed the black part onto the bottle first and then just push the clear piece with the mentos on and run?
I know alot of people with disbilities that use the breville hot cup or the one cup because its easier than using the tipper for the kettle. They are so easy to use and I just use a jug to fill it up.
The can opener especially the ring pool for soft drinks don't put it all the way in I grew up in bars similar things are are everywhere it the leverage is to close to the bottom of the tab.
I've worked with people who have nails that are so brittle they need a lever because that seemingly innocuous tab will break the nail to the nail bed. A simple bottle opener does the trick.
I think the can opener part of the 5-in-1 is more to lift the lip a bit so you can grab it easier with your fingers (and don't have to get under it with your nails)
I would absolutely not use the universal kettle tipper. As you accidentally showed, the kettle can fall out of the holder. That is flat out unforgivable.
Plus it wasn't immediately apparent why it failed, which makes it difficult to avoid making the same mistakes. I wouldn't have trusted this thing with my grandmother, that's for sure!
The cup/drinks can cover with straw is from Flying Tiger (the logo is in the bottom corner of the packaging. So now u know, if u see that logo, its from flying tiger)
That kettle tipper is so dangerous, I can't believe they sell them like that. a majority of kettles would end up being top heavy on that thing, and very likely to tip out of the cradle. Big red flag, avoid!
The 5 in one opener jar opener portion needed lots of force since you pulled the entire lid off of the threads. It's designed to just break the vaccum seal then you can unscrew the lid easily.
I'm betting that third strap was meant to for the top . Connect the short one on top to the ones around the base. A bit over kill but what ever probably would help some one with motor skill or desstarity issues
Instead of the splatterguard, my solution is a plate and oven gloves. It means less extra stuff in the kitchen. I guess the splatterguard could help people with dexterity issues?
In the last few years the caps to bottle, at least 2L ones have gotten shorter, maybe even by 1/3 to 1/2 shorter so i wonder if there not being as many threads for that mento's thing is the issue?

15:15 They can't sell that... Surely not
That cling film cutting gadget annoyed the heck out of me in your previous video, so I really hope Mrs B wins 🤣
Ups, I should have watched 15 seconds more of the video before commenting 😜
Would be awesome if you could get an OT to collaborate with to explain what methods are best for what issues (ie which issue a tipping kettle works better for, or one that releases water via a button push, etc).
i have a water cooler that gets the water pretty close to boiling that works great for things like tea, hot cocoa, etc. might be a bit of an expensive solution but i think it's pretty worth it
0:04 R2D2 having accidents in his old age....
The first time in a very long time that the opening clip made me audibly gasp LMAO
I got a Wrapmaster the day after you posted yours. I LOVE IT TO BITS!
Lol Barry so many messy bloopers 🤣🤣 when it came to soda pop opener did you try both ways? I couldn't tell
I tried to, but think the can variety wasn't great.
Barry: touching soup- "AHHH!"
Also Barry: touches soup again
As a disabled person, I preferred when you said "some of these can be helpful to disabled people" rather than "people with disadvantages." Firstly because disabled isn't a bad word, and secondly because I think being clear helps others to understand what you mean when you say what you say. Just my two cents ☺️
I understand where you are coming from, however other people have told me the opposite. I'll keep working on this, i'm not perfect and apologies if it causes offence
@@mrbarrylewis no offense taken! At least you're not saying "differently abled" or anything like that lol euphemisms for the disabled make me wanna 🤮
As a visually impaired person that kettle tipped is an accident waiting to happen. Would not recommend for people with eight problems!
Today on Kitchen Gadget Testing: Barry Floods the house
Hey Barry... For the diet coke and mentos one... There is a gadget called "geyser tube"... Me brother and I used it and the stream must have went 12m high! It was so fun!
I'm disabled and have a hot water kettle that is stationary and uses Brita filters, I only have to put my mug underneath and press the button. Once it boils, the hot water is dispensed straight into the mug. It's been fabulous for me
it's not the can, it's the gadget that's at fault with the soda pull tab. it's just not designed correctly for that. the "sheath" that goes over the tab creates a fulcrum point for the tab to bend around so it fails and breaks instead of opening the can
You just don't push it all the way in. It helped me a ton as a kid
It's not for opening soda cans all the way. You can use it to lift the tab of a soda can. But it is really meant for the Soup cans that have a pull tab.
I have super sensitive skin; especially to heat. Absolutely need a micro mate!
Omg you are amazing and that face when the water when all over the place was priceless 🤣😂
Reef also done a pair of flip-flops with a flask in them 😆
"We have certainly embraced the fluids." Man, it's like I'm watching Digitiser.
the handle part of te 5 in one is only meant to give that first open then you flip it round to use the other side. i have a similar toll and is great for my failing hands
Star Wars pun much appreciated 😁😁😁
The can opener especially the ring pool for soft drinks don't put it all the way in I grew up in bars similar things are are everywhere it the leverage is to close to the bottom of the tab.
I have the 5-in-1 gadget. When opening cans with tabs it's supposed to be used to pull up the tab but not open it all the way.
Can you put one of the straps over the top of the handle of the kettle to hold it down more???
It's genuinely. Not generally. You mix these up all the time 😂 👍
Other people: Hide the brand, don't give free exposure!
Barry: Okay, but what if, instead...*gives even MORE brands free exposure*
My word I remember watching the early episodes like they was just yesterday
soda can opening is already a perfect lever, using extra tools breaks it. Lift gently and dont pull.
I've worked with people who have nails that are so brittle they need a lever because that seemingly innocuous tab will break the nail to the nail bed. A simple bottle opener does the trick.
Not everyone can ‘lift gently and don’t pull’ that’s why Barry makes a point of mentioning folks with disabilities at the beginning
For sure, it needs a clip over the top without a doubt. Also my kettle is made of glass, only just thinking about it, that could have been much worse!
Plus it wasn't immediately apparent why it failed, which makes it difficult to avoid making the same mistakes. I wouldn't have trusted this thing with my grandmother, that's for sure!
@@mrbarrylewis Doesn't that make your kettle kinda heavy? Good thing yall are still strong :)
The cup/drinks can cover with straw is from Flying Tiger (the logo is in the bottom corner of the packaging. So now u know, if u see that logo, its from flying tiger)

Are the Reef flip flops the promo ones that the alcopop reef did in the late 90s early 2000s?
Cling wrap cutter thingy would be good for tape maybe
That kettle tipper is so dangerous, I can't believe they sell them like that. a majority of kettles would end up being top heavy on that thing, and very likely to tip out of the cradle. Big red flag, avoid!
I agree and that thing could be a death trap if a very young child ended up getting scalded because of it. A definite no-no.
The 5 in one opener jar opener portion needed lots of force since you pulled the entire lid off of the threads. It's designed to just break the vaccum seal then you can unscrew the lid easily.
That intro had me 💀. Tnx Barry. I can always rely on u for a good laugh
Omg 🤣🤣🤣 that coke fountain one 🤣🤣🤣
For the cling film cutter, why don't you turn it upside down? Wouldn't it be easier to pull down instead of pushing up?
I'm betting that third strap was meant to for the top . Connect the short one on top to the ones around the base. A bit over kill but what ever probably would help some one with motor skill or desstarity issues
Instead of the splatterguard, my solution is a plate and oven gloves. It means less extra stuff in the kitchen. I guess the splatterguard could help people with dexterity issues?
In the last few years the caps to bottle, at least 2L ones have gotten shorter, maybe even by 1/3 to 1/2 shorter so i wonder if there not being as many threads for that mento's thing is the issue?
I saw you doing a mess with the water, this is the story of my life with Muscular Dystrophy lol IM ALWAYS DOING A MESS
