  • Join Tablenauts for a playthrough and review of Babylonia. One of Reiner Knizia’s best board games. Babylonia has gone under the radar and is, in my opinion, one of the best board games of 2019.

    Everyone knows about My City, The Quest for El Dorado, Tigris and Euphrates, etc, but Babylonia deserves much more love as one of Reiner Knizia's best works.
    This is one of the best two player board games, also one of my favorites, and scales incredibly well. Every play is fast and every action is important. In my opinion, this is one of Reiner Knizia’s best board games.

    Where do you think Babylonia should rank in a list of Reiner Knizia’s best?! We’re real fond of it.

      @@callaxwithac1320 interesting as I think 2 player Tigris and Euphrates is very good. It is so deep strategically, that you can win some local battles, lose others, but win the war if you manage to pivot and make a big swing at the right time.

      @@callaxwithac1320 would love to try Samurai and Blue Lagoon but I really think Babylonia works great at 2.
      Maybe it doesn’t seem that way on camera but, personally, I felt like there was a lot of interaction. I spent much of the game trying to stop Doolin from chaining stuff together, getting Ziggarauts, etc.
      Now, Samurai and Blue lagoon may be better- I’ve never played so I can’t comment, but I really enjoyed this game and think it has a healthy amount of interaction.
      Thanks for your comments though! Looking forward to trying more Knizia games in the future!

    This deserves a replay. Revisit with rules corrected.

      Agreed! We still love Babylonia.
      Def got some stuff incorrect in this video and tried to notate it on screen when able.

    Interesting play through. I might have missed it. But is the area that is in play depending on the Player count?

    • @Tablenauts
      @Tablenauts  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct! You divide the map based on player count. If playing with 4 you play with the entire map!

      @@Tablenauts that is always something I really enjoy in games. really makes it more concise at 2, if the map size is reduced then

    This feels like a really advanced version of Caesar:Seize Rome in 20 minutes

      There's definite similarities! Especially the tile that increases your hand limit and gives you an extra turn, are very reminiscent of the bonus powers in Caesar! SRi20M (or vice versa).
      I was surprised how well Babylonia plays at 2, largely thanks to the reduced map. Caesar is just more compact, affordable and in print for 2p only.

    Thanks for playing this. It’s a little hard to see the strategies when just observing, so can I ask, have you played Tigris & Euphrates? It seems to me T&E is more interesting and more engaging. T&E is in my top 10 games of all time and I would buy more Reiner Knizia games, if the game is really strong. Do you have a preference and comparative?

    • @Tablenauts
      @Tablenauts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely recommend Babylonia but I cannot compare, unfortunately. I am fairly new to most Knizia games having only played My City, Quest for El Dorado, and Babylonia.

    I thought you could do the farmers in the river as long as they were face up?

    • @Tablenauts
      @Tablenauts  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll have to go back and watch- farmers should be able to go in the river but face down I think? Possibly we misplayed- and it’s also been a bit since I last played lol.

    The game looks interesting, but at the equivalent of US$100 on Amazon Mexico, this is an easy pass for me. Too bad.
