- This week on the show, Tom and Quinns take on the first in a double-bill of Reiner Knizia classics reprinted by modern publishers! It’s Amun-Re this time - the 2003 Nile-Em’-Up that features “Pyramids”, “Points”, and “Peculiarly Long Acrostic Poems”! The boys also take a minute to talk about the expansions provided by Alley Cat Games in this new 20th Anniversary Edition, as well casting their critical eye over the recent 25th Century Games reprint of Ra. I must say, that was one of the most imaginative endings I've seen for one of these videos.
I love how the last point made before the imagination embargo was the BGG rank difference of 0.2
@@THESP-rz3hg That's a rating difference, not a rank difference. Ra is ranked #151 with a BGG rating of 7.402; Amun-Re is ranked #472 with a BGG rating of 6.961. Of course, what the videos showed were the average user ratings of 7.57 (rounded to 7.6) and 7.30 respectively, since those are the headline figures on a game's BGG page.

I didn't know this review was going to include an existential crisis. My copy of Ra and I are going to reflect on whether or not we have a soul.

I adore the reviews where there are two of you present. In general the whole team is great i love seeing all the weird brands of lunancy on display but i find you shine brightest when you can work off eachother. Tom and Quinns is a particularly great combo. Amun-Re looks good i may pick it up for Xmas.

I cannot watch SUSD and drink my coffee at the same time. Coffee just ends up being spat everywhere as I suffer burst of uncontrollable laughter. Another great video.
When my brother and I were first getting into board games, Amun-Re was one of the first we borrowed from our uncle's collection. Picking up an updated copy of my own is very tempting.
If SUSD videos before the experimental videos were great, these experimental videos are incredible! Way to go SUSD team!

They were way more experimental back in the day
If anything, they're pretty milk toast now days, and I think mainly because it's so high production
But they're bit weirder than a couple of years back at least

There are many good reviewers, thera are some great reviewers (most of them work for Shut up and sit down), then there's Quinn, which makes every review an entertaining masterpiece. 🎉
I just learned this a few days ago so it's fresh in my mind, but fun fact : Amun-Re was one of the names of the Egyptian sun god. Most think of Ra being the sun god, which is true, but it could also be pronounced as Re. Meanwhile, Amun was a popular sun god from another small religion that the Egyptians liked so much, that they mashed Ra and Amun together. Thus, Ra could also be called Amun-Ra or Amun-Re, the name of this game. The more you know.

Auctions are cool, but what about blind auctions where one player gets all the money, one player knows the cards, one player can sell their own cards, and one player gets extra cards?

I know everyone loves Ra and Modern art, but for me amun-re is the best Knizia bidding game. The "have the most pyramids on one side of the nile" is an absolutely genius mechanic. Its what makes the second phase of the game so much more interesting, because some land is barren, while others have a ton of pyramids. And sometimes you have to offer money to the god just to get extra bricks to secure your pyramid dominance.
Back on form! I'm loving the recent videos - good work SUSD team! Also I'd like to know how many takes it took to get that high five scene done.

Glad to see you guys addressing the dangers of imagination. Speaking from experience it's a real slippery slope, once I accidentally let myself drift into a day dream (I know, very irresponsible) for a split second and now I old have one and a half kidneys. I do consider myself lucky though, could've been much worse.
