Mark I think she must have been seriously mis managed. American people would have loved her .A pretty Yorkshire waif with a voice that can melt you and a sense of humour. Elton John tried to give her a leg up but to no avail. Shame on us all.
Yeah she was really great...I love her stuff...music, voice, etc. And I MEAN MY GOD! That one other song?? "I Got the Music In Me" is SOO f***in' jammin'!
The words to this chorus came to me this morning after a troubling dream. When I sang them in the dark of my bedroom I felt a huge sense of relief and peace. Thank you Kiki! Beautiful words... Lyn Nanni
No surprise that this is yet another beautiful song performed to perfection by the utterly brilliant Kiki Dee. Such an incredible British singer/songwriter ❤
Such a fantastic song from a terribly underrated British female vocalist. Have always loved you Kiki, and always will! Thank you for helping to provide the musical timeline of my life!
Seen Kiki Dee with Carmelo in Greenock around 10 years ago, I was sitting in the front row with my wife and she came down to the front and got me up to dance with her. Fantastic singer
Saw the wonderful Kiki Dee in the 1970s at a night club in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) performing before an audience of about 50 people. Had dropped in for a quick drink, not knowing that Kiki was even on the bill! She looked fabulous wearing a long chocolate brown evening dress and sang as though she was at a Royal Command performance! What a star!
This is such a beautiful song and it's beautifully delivered by the incomparable Kiki Dee. I don't understand why this wasn't a hit in the US. She is so fine.
@@andreasgasser5823It also kept out a lot of Canadian would or could have been icons back when this song was new. Our government wrote set up MAPL just so the radio stations wouldn't default to American imports.
If I were dying, and I could only had time to listen to ten more songs, two of them would be by Kidi Dee. Amazing voice. "Dark Side Of Your Soul" is one of the best recordings in history. Why we have crap on the radio when there is music like "Night Hours", I'll never know. Kiki Dee is a great talent.
Female artists found it tough going in the music business during the 60s and 70s. Misogyny was rife and they certainly were treated as less important than male artists by many in the industry the music press and to a large extent the public too. Few female artists were able to sustain successful careers over an extended period. It's a very different world today although still fa from perfect. Kiki Dee was one of those superb talents who really struggled to achieve the level of sales and success her talent truly deserved scoring only a handful of minor solo hits and of course that iconic duet with Elton. This live performance displays what a world class talent she was. Kiki is of course still going strong today
Years ago, when the Lovin and Free album came out, I bought it, and so did all my friends, we thrashed it! Love all the songs on the album, and it is STILL zone of my MOST a favourite albums, the songs are wonderful.
Kiki. Your voice is a gift to all of us, but girl, you could absolutely blow up any room anywhere. Anytime. My daughter and i just love you. God bless!
YES !! She’s not the girl of Elton’s DGBMH. She’s a great artist and a most talented singer since she was sixteen. She is too humble since she was famous in UK before that song. I like that song actually but Kiki is awesome. One of a kind. However I’m glad that she has lived a healthy life keeping herself away of excesses and twisted lifestyle of the so called “celebrities “
I wish Kiki had done an album of only Burt Bacharach/Hal David songs. She did such a brilliant job with her singing on Do You Know the Way to San Jose I'm sure it would have been a big hit
Wondering what Kiki would have done with her career if she wasn't sitting on a massive bomb of fame and fortune! I sincerely believe that she could have embraced it! Although today it's 2023 and I am certain that she could still be a major hit! Kiki, for those of us who experienced you coming in to our lives in the 1970's - we KNOW you can still achieve great things with your music and give us all, sounds, songs and life lessons that will be legends in their own right! xx
oh how I love this whole album. wished it would come out on cd. my album is 40+ yrs old & scratchy. over & over I played this. thx for putting on TH-cam.
+Lynnm1956 I had it on cd....sadly lost.....I'm sure you could find it with special order or used cd shops......heck they may even reissue it in vinyl for the millenials......one of the best albums ever....Id like to have this song played at my memorial......
This song is sort of standard from the 70's. Great music, Kiki is great. I believe other(s) covered this during the period. KIki never got the career she deserved in the U.S., despite Elton John bringing her on tour, etc. Sometimes that happens, people make it in England but not here...
@Walter Pewen....it sometimes also happens the other way round. Def Leppard being an example. Never really a "big name" band in UK, but went stratospheric in the US.
No offence intended Walter, but what makes you presume that the TH-cam audience is in the USA, ie, 'here'? There is a whole world outside, some 95.6%! ;)
Fantastic track from a criminally underrated artist. Kiki is far more than her duet with Elton.
For a start, the first white European artist signed to Tamla-Motown.

@@martinotoole9959 she had some decent hits like amoreuse and Star.
Yeah she was really great...I love her stuff...music, voice, etc. And I MEAN MY GOD! That one other song?? "I Got the Music In Me" is SOO f***in' jammin'!
She needed some better hits written for her.
TIMELESS< still play it & it Always touches

Tony Blackburn. He represents a life time for many people. God bless him.
just been to see kiki in Liverpool this evening..she still has IT at 74...she made me cry with this beautiful song xxx
No surprise that this is yet another beautiful song performed to perfection by the utterly brilliant Kiki Dee. Such an incredible British singer/songwriter ❤
Fantastic voice. People forget she was signed by Motown because of her soulful voice. She can rock it out as well sing beautiful ballads.
Such a fantastic song from a terribly underrated British female vocalist. Have always loved you Kiki, and always will! Thank you for helping to provide the musical timeline of my life!
Kiki Dee. Super Double Triple Cute.
One of the best female artistes ever fantastic voice from our home town of Bradford

It was always a hit to me, as it was played on the FM station that I listened to.
We all say the same! She could have had a stratospheric career if someone could have managed her properly.
Because of the protective USA- music industry (you could also use the word corrupt USA-music-mafia).
@@andreasgasser5823It also kept out a lot of Canadian would or could have been icons back when this song was new. Our government wrote set up MAPL just so the radio stations wouldn't default to American imports.

Underrated song and singer
Great guitar
No. 13 was the highest Kiki ever got as a soloist - this one and two others reached that position. They were Amoureuse (1973) and Star (1981).
underrated, overlooked, great singer
¡Cómo muchos otros más, adoro a Kiki Dee!
My childhood fantasy .
I saw her perform live in the 70s, opening for Elton John.
