My older sister played this all the time in the early 70's. Was a great song that not so many people would remember these days. Good to hear it again.

Kiki got a recording contract in 64 as a 16 yr old, she was a session singer ( Dusty among others) and released several great 45s in the 60s. Her first album in 73 included a song about her first love, Sugar On The Floor.

This remains my favourite track by Kiki, another is 'Loving and Free' from 1976. This is a cover as another commenter mentioned.
As for the pronunciation it is said like 'Amour-ruse'.
Yes, I agree with you, on this she does sound quite like Karen Carpenter.

This is a cover, the song was originally recorded by its writer, Veronique Sanson. Her version has a couple more vocal stretches, and is worth checking out.

Yep. People tend to forget that this is a cover of a French original. The title and the feeling of the song is another clue, as to its origin.

I found this after watching a Top of the Pops version of the song - one of my all time favourites, she is so underrated - listen to it on headphones while you’re out and about and I promise you’ll be blown away by how amazing she is ❤ “Loving and Free” also good!

This brings back memories, I have always thought what a great song, I was working in a Refrigeration and air conditioning warehouse I used to stop and listen to the whole of the song, it was played constantly back then, I guess the boss lost out on working time big time.

Karen Carpenter? Karen was a superb singer but Kiki floods her vocals with colours that were beyond Karen. This track is possibly Kiki's finest moment and many vocalists can only aspire to this achievement.

I loved this song when I was around 5 or 6. Is it possible if you two do a comparison video on Mina vs The Globos doing ''Tintarella di luna''? Mina was an Italian singer in the 50's, and The Globas were an Australian New Wave cabaret act in the 80's. I love both versions, but my heart is really for the Globos' version. I loved dancing to the song at the time.
Sadly, Globos singer, Wendy De Waal, passed away last year. I would love to see a comparison video on the two artists.

Ehhh...if this is NOT about her first love singing "made a woman of single girl" what do you think it could be about otherwise. Seems it is very obvious. The original is French by a woman called Veronique Sanson or Sason. I really like this one a lot more, but the thought behind it is thanks to Veronique.
