this game is endless hours of fun. You have atlis life, coop missions, battle royale, wasteland...just so many game modes.

But I have quite alot of fun with ARMA playing coop sessions with my community, it really speaks for how diverse the game is, it can happily support people like me and you both, even if we have completely different interests.
(You might be missing out on alot of fun though :P)

Then at times I play Tactical Battlefield, a beauty of a mod.
I think he overbashed the campaign. I had nothing but minor issues with it and found it really enjoyable actually
For the newbie pubsies: If you want to play the game PROPERLY, stop joining these laggy random servers. Join a MilSim unit. Seriously.
This game is not meant for just joining random servers and fucking around. Once you play with a MilSim group, you'll realize what this game is designed for.
People shouldn't have to join clan servers in order to have a working game.
XmarcX92 They do. This was the point of the game ever since the series launched in 2001. You need a team to play with. And you can't EVER get that experience with randoms.
It's one of those games that give you the tools and not the mission. What you do with the tools is up to YOU. This game will not hold your hand like a CoD or BF.
That doesn't mean the game is bad. It just needs dedication and some care. Some values a few people seem to lose.
On top of that, 90% of the random servers are vanilla. ARMA without mods isn't really ARMA. My unit uses over a dozen mods.
Brokkolesz I have been playing on public servers since arma 2, I never had a problem finding people who played it realistically to get that experience. Not everyone has the time to join a clan and keep up with their schedules, they simply want to start the game and play. Which is the point of video games ever since they were created.
Malacovics No you shouldn't join special clans. The game shipped(and was designed) with a Multiplayer feature(randoms included), so why doesn't it work like it should?! There comes a point where you have to accept criticism when it's true, no game is perfect, some games are less than not perfect, like Arma, it's a brilliant idea, but never reaches its full potential, at least in my eyes.
They have this beautiful island, gorgeous, they have all these vehicles, all these guns, and AI, but the campaign is so lacking.

This review is just silly, look at how much effort this guy put into the singleplayer. Nobody plays this game for singleplayer unless they're practicing flying, driving or other forms of combat.
The idea behind ArmA is to play with a group of people in a structured environment to work coherently as a team. That means find a decent, clan-run server, pick a role, kit yourself out APPROPRIATELY (I put emphasis on kitting yourself out appropriately because a rifleman or medic has no business carrying AT or AA or a sniper rifle, for example), join a squad and then communicate via voice coms to arrange someone to pick you up and drive/ fly you and your squad to your objective. You DO NOT just browse the server list, join what sounds best, pick your favourite class and then expect to start shooting. This is a milsim. You play it like a milsim. Not like Call of Duty or Battlefield.
One of my favourite things to do is to play as a pilot. As a pilot I'll either play the role of CAS or transport. As CAS my gunner and I will fly out in our gunship towards the AO, stopping at around 2km away from the AO where my gunner will work with ground forces to identify enemy armour and enemy troops and start raining down hell on them, LiveLeak style. As well as communicating with ground forces, he and I need to communicate with each other to ensure he has line of sight while I ensure our safety.
The game is primarily about COOP combined arms. If you're not a team player then stay VERY far away from this game.

Terry Sawyer Eh to be fair I played the shit out of ArmA 2, and ArmA 3 isn't for me. I got 3 in early access and am kinda dissapointed by the lack of bug fixes and desync issues. Online the game has a myriad of connection issues, it can be fun yes but idk what it is. Maybe the neo modern weaponry doesn't appeal to me as much as AK's and old M14's idk. Plus instead of bringing me back to the game with more content they are just trying to sell it to me piece by piece.

The single player in Operation Flashpoint was memorable, I loved the Resistance expansion to. Shame they haven't been able to capture that since.

The Developers, Bohemia Interactive is listed as a 3rd Party developer for PS4 only, ArmA might come for consoles. It would interesting if they optimize their engine.

To be the best Military Simulator out there, this game it's very difficult to compare with any other kind of game, it's even unfair to call it a game too, this package it's very unique, a true gem on it's own, the result of uncountable hours of development and community feedback, Bohemia Interactive had to be very proud of the Arma Series, I will give it a 10/10 for bringing to the table more than what I paid for.

Campaign is good too.
Atleast 8/10 for me, looks gorgeous, handles well, great community for modes, good online and one of the best editors out there. The campaign is a nice bonus to! Have had mroe fun on this than BF4 to be honest.
Review should have mentioned DayZ mod and Altis Life in this, two of the best online mods.

The campaign was good.
I love the ArmA games, they're a ton of fun when you play with a serious military sim community or clan but goddamn, 3 fucking games so far and all of them run like ass. The developers gotta start using other engines instead of making their own ones since all of their ArmA engines are horrible, clunky and unoptimized, making even monster PCs drop to 20 fucking FPS sometimes.

Even things like Fallout 4 and GTA 5 cant come close, they both use lots of tricks to make it feel like you can see far, but would not work in a game like this and allow 100+ people on a map

I miss the fun and atmosphere the original Operation Flashpoint had. The campaigns were amazing in that, voice acting pretty decent too. Bohemia really have strayed far away from the origin. OFP proved that realism could be fun. ARMA has since been undoing that that IMO.

You serious?I enjoy Arma using 3rd person camera more than first person.Even in the original flashpoint game I used 3rd person most of the time.And most other people also do it,nothing wrong with that.

Great game imo. When playing in first person with ultra graphics you feel like you're actually there. Sometimes it took me days to finish a mission but i never felt like the game was unfair , most of the time it was me just being dumb and not being careful. I wouldn't recommend this game to someone who likes games like cod or bf , they're good games but arma is more of a warfare simulator than and fast paced fps.

I have a GTX 260... I get an average of 40 fps. View distance is capped at 2km for me to make that work (you rarely need to see past that).

Great review, Fucking love this game to bits one of the most satisfying and fun "shooters" i've played in a very long time. Calling it a shooter though is cutting it short. This game is incredible highly recommended :)

Reading these comments is a drama.
There are either biased people who don't understand that this game is meant to be player in an organised group or idiots who think this game is boring because it is slower/tactical.
Either way, it is a shame a review for a coop game build around sandbox tools focuses merely on singleplayer mostly. This is not what it was meant for.
I have got 1100 hours into arma 3 right now. Its tons of fun to play with friends or just lone wolf in gamemodes like wasteland(where you go around killing people) or mods like dayz. The editor in the game is also tons of fun, creating own missions or get the fastest car and hit a ramp. The game does have flaws, such as the ai which is sometimes looking for example north whilst you pop your head out for 1 second behind him (south) and you instantly get spotted... or if your walking uphill you go REALLY slow sometimes.. athe game is realistic and fun in 1. You can play a 100 men missions in 1 server or with 4 friends you can do a pvp mission or play gamemodes like altis life or invade and annex.
Sometimes you get sucked into the game and its realism which is fun. If you die then you hate yourself and think about what you did wrong and how to improve...
I rate the game: 8.5
I can't even notice the AI being stupid when I crop it with some 30mm.

well its on sale today for $30 bucks. I haven't decided if I'm going to take the plunge. I remember purchasing ARMA 2 and then not playing it much because it was too much of a commitment and complication of learning the controls. By far the most complicated game I've ever played, with a lot of unnecessary controls such as a special button to step over a fence. If they included a Day z based off the ARMA 3, I would be in in a heartbeat
***** There is Day Z standalone but no Day Z mod for Arma 3. I highly recommend Arma 3 Epoch mod which has base building, crafting, strange and varied enemy ai plus pvp game play. Breaking Point is a similar mod but has a more pvp emphasis.
Christian Wallace So there are mods that allow 2 armies of actual players not AI? Could you elaborate on this for me? I am considering purchasing it, as the mods I hear is where the game excels. this game is the most realistic milsim ever in my opinion... try not to die even once in any mission campain is very difficult.. in multiplayer it is far more difficult without good teamwork... this is a game that brings you close to how a real combat scenario is in real life....

I have an FX-8350 8 core. ARMA 2 only uses 4 of my 8 cores and it takes away from my potential performance. Is ARMA 3 the same way? Is there any way around this? BTW I have GTX 760.

Judging this game by it's single player is like judging Titanfall for it's single player...play the multiplayer and you will enjoy this game.

How can a person give 60€ just for little to non improvement look you can buy early access games for -20€ like Rust, Space Engineers and DayZ I know they are all buggy and don't have much contend but you can notice the work all the Dev teams are having to deliver a good game for sometimes 10$. Now lets talk about BF4/COD noobs just log in and play it you can hear the 12y old whining and crying all day long and in BF4 you get almost no Teamplay most of the time you are the only one defending a base wile the team is doing other smart stuff. In A3 teamplay is the only way to win.

Honestly, I'd give the SP a 7/10 because of it's flaws, but I'd give the MP a 9/10. Now, I'm not giving this rating because I'm a fanboy, I'm giving this rating because they gave it some potential and made it really immersive. Now, considering there are glitches and bugs to the game, the glitchy goodness can mostly be very funny, but at the same time it could be really annoying. That is why I gave it a 9/10. Oh and BTW the game is still in BETA!!

I watched the 33 things about Arma 3 video from the developers and was already ready to buy it when it got to just 10 things. The realism, authenticity, visceral feelings of being in a war situation, etc. This video on the other hand makes it seem like I shouldn't buy it.
supercooled it's worth it. this video is from a while back. they've updated the voice acting and weapon sounds. also u don't die jumping from 5 feet anymore. it's worth it man. best 70 hours in any game I've ever spent.
I bought the Apex package so it included everything but it runs like crap on my machine. I'll need to try it on my other machine before I pass judgement but yeah.
The reviews with maxed out settings does make it look like a great game.

We can agree on that but how will you put all the controls on a controller? That includes stances, switching throwables, various items like pistol, rifle, launcher, binoculars, watches, compass, map, switching channels, third/first person, peaking, order list... and so much on. The bad thing about the game... was not its optimization, or lack of content compared to arma 2. No, no, noo.. according to IGN, the downside of arma 3 was that it is ''Too difficult and hostile to newcomers''.

i feel like this is an unfair review. This is a war simulator that does its best on creating exiting action. the multiplayer and mods are extreemly fun and is 50% of why i got this amazing game.
Getting 35 FPS online with a GTX 780 is Unacceptable. Fuck this game.
