    Holy cow John I can’t believe you randomly showed up on my TH-cam!? My name is Josh Zwahlen and I used to work with you on the MICU at St. Anthony’s hospital. Very proud of you and everything that you have accomplished. You’re a badass nurse man.

    I’ve had 8 to 10 contracts over the years (I only travel 6 months out of the year). I’ve always had a different company for each contract except for one company where I have done two contracts with them. It wasn’t because the companies were bad or anything, I just go with whatever company that can get me to where I want to go for how much I want to get. You have to be your own boss and “stick up for yourself.” Compression sock save my legs, good tip for people.

    As my 25 year career as a paramedic comes to a close soon I’m thinking about traveling as well. I’m also a nurse that works ER at my local hospital. I’ve actually done a travel nurse gig. Long story on that one, anyway. I’ve talked to several travelers and they all told me the same thing.... work with at least three different agencies and take the best deal at the place you wanna go to. And make sure each company knows your working other agencies because that may get you more money and a better deal. Recruiters work on commissions and the more nurses they place the more they make to... another traveler told me that as advice before I started

    I just took my first contract and after the first orientation shift I was told by the managers that I will be on night shift. I was never told or asked if I would work nights when setting up this contract with my recruiter. My recruiter even checked my contract and he said it was set up for day shift. However, the hospital is claiming that the recruiter was supposed to tell me that my position was "flexible", and that I would have to go wherever they want to put me. I want to be a team player, plus I have wanted to work at this hospital for a long time because it is a V.A. hospital and it is near my home. But, I'm pretty annoyed because I worked nights for years and its not something I want to do anymore. I'm trying to decide if I should do it as a way to make points with management as long as they promise to move me to days ASAP. Any opinions?

    As A Recruiter it's really nice to hear the opinions of nurses throughout the country and their thoughts and takes on this ever changing industry.
    Thank you for taking the time to make this video and educate everyone who is getting involved in Traveling. Great pointers and I'll apply it to my nurses I work with

    • @behoushi
      @behoushi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How about you agencies take a smaller cut whenever we get rate cuts in the middle of a contract and be honest about the bill rate? I find it odd the hospital can unilaterally break a signed contract and then the agencies get mad when nurses discuss their pay rates with one another and develop solidarity 🤔

    I wore support panty hose until they stopped making them...sometime in the 90's. I never had a varicose vein during that time. They are totally worth it. Wish they still made them. Support hose these days are generally knee high. Please make sure that they are not too tight behind your knees. I should have kept wearing the support hose especially around my Dobermans...my dogs have run into my legs so many times that well you'll never see me in shorts again!!!

    I work with 6 or 7 different agencies. If you are only using one agency you're not going to see the best contracts available all the time. My current contract I love my recruiter but the agency is a hot mess. Probably won't use them again.

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true but if you have built a great relationship with not just the recruiter but also the agency, sometimes a quality company outweighs higher pay.

    New sub. My question is how long do you have have to renew your license and is it the same for every state and is there any state where you don’t have to renew it. Thanks.

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome, Beverly! The easiest way is to have a home where you can get a multistate license in the nursing compact. That way you have one license and can work in multiple states. There's still a few hold outs that will require you to pick up their specific state license (CA, AK, WA) but it's pretty easy to just apply for those when needed. Just renew the multistate every year like you normally would.

I am also interested in purchasing an RV in the next 10-12 months to bring my "home" with me. Needless to say, your videos are very relative. I always appreciate your advice and the travel experiences you share of you and your family. Thank you for all you do. Keep up the good work!

    Been watching videos on travel nursing. Trying to decide my future. Gotta say, no one really paints travel nursing in a very positive light. Most of it seems to be recruiters and hospitals taking advantage of trusting nurses and fucking them over.

    Hi there. I am planning on traveling next year and watching videos for guidance. When you said that you contacted the manager of the Agency when you were given the unsafe assignment… Im curious. Did you also address it with the nursing supervisors on shift in that hospital? Or you would only address the unfair/unsafe situations with the agency??
