- In this video, I take a chilly autumnal walk through the 18th Century estate of Stourhead, in Wiltshire.
Beginning at the grand Palladian-style house, join me as I explore the many acres of stunning landscaped gardens and also the wider estate, finishing at the great folly dedicated to King Alfred The Great.

Good morning we visited stourhead a few weeks ago such a beautiful place to visit and walk around such an enjoyable video
Wow what an amazing places and history thanks Nic enjoyed this ❤
Thank you 😊
I know Stourhead quite well but I’ve never seen it in Winter. Your video captures the atmosphere of a fresh winter walk. 😃
Thank you! It was very beautiful in the frost!
You had a really nice day for it. Everywhere looked beautiful. The traditional reason for a triangular tower is as respect for the trinity, but given the symbolism of everything else on the estate that seems unlikely. Keep walking wyrdly!
So beautiful, and your walks are always so relaxing 😃
Thanks, Panaka! I'm glad you enjoyed them. Hope you're keeping well 🙂
Another fantastic video 👍
Thanks, Melch! 🙂
Another great walk...all those grottos and grand buildings, Henry must have had money coming out of his ears. That's the second video I've watched this week with a plague stone...hope it's not an omen. Congrats on hitting 406! You deserve it for putting out fab content! 😊
Thanks, David, for your continued support! Fingers crossed, we won't be needing the plague stone anytime soon! 😆 Henry Hoare came from a family of very wealthy bankers, so yep, they sure liked to splash the cash! Thanks again 🙂
A great video. Stourhead is so lovely and you showed it off magnificently. There are ghost stories associated with the Stourton family but not exactly at Stourhead.
Thank you for your kind comment! It's much appreciated! I must look further into the Stourton family - sounds interesting!
Wow! I really enjoyed that Nic, you have a fantastic way of telling the story of the location you visit. I thought I'd subbed to you a while ago so apologies for not checking 😆 definitely have now and will watch some more of your very well put together videos. Thank you Nic. 🙂
No need to apologise! Thanks so much for the kind comment, Mark!
Hi just catching up with your lovely videos, we thats my brother his wife and friend would drive us to many of the locations you visit during the 80s, Stourhead was a favorite place, some parts you have been we did not see perhaps because we liked a beer in the Spread Eagle pub. There is an interesting bit of history as it was where David Niven spent his time whilst in the services,in fact we were sat by a window and saw his name scratched into one of the old glass panes, something I thought may interest you, linked to this we used to camp in the 90s at a pub in Wiltshire called the Golden Swan Hilcott, we set off on a ghost walk one night and ended up at the village church an elderly gentleman appeared heading our way, striking up a conversation we were to learn that David Nivens wife was secretly buried in this very grave yard..odd things ehh atb Tom.
Wow, that's really uncanny! Stourhead is a wonderful place with so much to see. I did see the Spread Eagle Pub, but sadly, didn't stop in. Maybe next time! Thanks for watching. 🙂
Nice vid, thabks. You remind me of Olivia Coleman 😁
Oh, um, thanks? 😄
@@walkingthewyrd it's a compliment 😊 Keep up the good work 👍🏻
@harri7416 I'll take it, I'm a Hot Fuzz fan! Thank you for watching 🙂
@@walkingthewyrd my pleasure 😊
Hello Nic. How did you get in so early in the day? They normally open at 10.00 ! You used the low, rising sun beautifully. I would love to be there in those conditions. That's one of your best that I've watched. I walked up to the tower just once, and that must have been 15 years ago, so i know it really is quite a climb
Thank you, Lionel! It certainly looked magnificent on that cold, crisp day. Somewhere I'd like to revisit.
Did you notice on your approach to the tower talking about the battle with the Dane’s (9:14) you can see clouds that look like a Viking longship with sail 🤔
I did! I took a picture and shared it on my instagram! 😄
