Closed Captions are up! If any of the information mentioned for some reason changes by next expansion i'll make an updated video on it (though I doubt it).
This is an incredibly informative video. I always have the problem with finding a static who would want to take on someone who has literally no experience with the more advanced raids and has limited time. I am hoping to be able to do so either soon in the next month or once Endwalker comes out.
I'm a very casual player I only beat 3/4 of the second raid tier of this expansion and that was mostly because there were ppl there who already did it, and also because the raid tier lasted ages. Regardless I'm planning on raiding next expansion and this video definitely gave me a morale boost in that regard. I remember being an mmo newbie 1.5ish years ago and watching your how to dungeon scholar video and it was a massive help. Ever since then I've always looked to you for guides and such. Keep up the great work
Man looking at this guide reminds me the time I was searching some advices and found your melee uptime optimization video. I tried the most of it with the release of Tsukuyomi EX and playing ninja... Good to see some others advices to help people jump into the "toxic" content LUL. Keep doing it as always Sir, and huge thanks for that.
Really appreciate this video I’ve always had a bad taste about statics because I come from other mmos and I usually raid with my guild/FC like I’ve played 14 since HW but I still don’t like the idea but watching this made me think I should give it a try because I am so tired of party finder lol and my FC just don’t have the confidence to even try raising no matter what I say
3.1 - Flexible roles is my biggest weakness. I envy seeing people being able to switch around and play it to a decent standard. One tricking has just crippled my ability to join different groups in the long run ;_;
I am torn about this. In one hand it gives good ways to self improve but on the other if people see all this and they think they all these are a MUST. In FFXIV you need none of these just a good understanding of the job and the minimal gear ilvl. I learned SoS ex blind at lvl 80 in a pug and had a blast, it took a few days but I got it. My best advice is find a group with the same mindset. Not every group is the same and I think playing with people with the same mind set helps maximize fun and clear goals. But that is just my opinion. I just don't want people scared off thinking every raider does all this and thus expects everyone to do the same. It does help but not expected in all groups.
One of the big choices between "Do I want to join a static, or do I want to pug this tier?" is your own time investment into the raid, and your goals for clearing. The upside of a static is consistency in positioning, strategy, and progression. The downside of a static is that it can be significantly harder to replace an underperforming team member if your static leader isn't principled, and your rate of progression is directly tied to the amount of days you raid. Additionally, you are usually recruited for a specific role or even a specific Job, so you often don't have many options for changing gameplay up. The upside of pugging is that your progression is only limited by the weekly reset, and you're unrestricted by the role you want to play. The downside of pugging is that joining new groups each time you go into a raid means adapting to their often unorthodox strategies, taking a necessary step back in progression just to get into the instance, inconsistency in other players, and personality clashes. All that being said, pugging a tier is definitely viable, and can also be a good substitute after a static raid week is over. If you get into the tier on day one and do well, you can often get into the rapid progression groups that end up getting to the penultimate and final fights a few weeks before most statics even get there. I've passed several statics my friends were in just by pugging more frequently than they raid during a week.
about potting -> in some fight its worth to pot even during prog since it can make your group skip some mechanics, changing the pacing of the fight to be easier + you have to learn less mechanics. an example is protean 2 in TEA p1, you never have to learn that mechanic if you just optimize from the start
Thank you for explaining some of this, FC im in asked if I wanted to raid and me being a WoW refugee I did Heroic content there. So no big deal... Or so i thought. Was asked to roll ninja and I was being sent savage strats and that was it. So... this helps a bit
Df and easy don’t always go together well. Every once in awhile you que into a normal mode expecting a quick clear and you wipe so much you second guess if you accidentally qued for savage lol.
Thousand % agree that savage raids are accessible to all and any players can clear it, so long as they put the time, effort and practice to it. There’s no true “gatekeepers” in this game, except for yourselves
Yo, how do you have that damage meter on screen at 11:35? Is this like, prerecorded playback with active log data added in on top? I'm a wow refugee, very new to the game, I played a GLD back when ARR first released up to like level 25 before I gave up. I was an active wow player at the time and the GCD as well as slow start to all classes in general and (at the time) the main tank class in particular led me to give it up. I'm very much enjoying myself now, just finished the requirements to upgrade my THM to a BLM and I know I'm in basically the tutorial section still. Thanks for the video, while the info for new mmo players/raiders was stuff I already knew, the ffxiv specific stuff and the info for wow transplants was incredibly helpful.
i am a new player trying to find a static so i have no experience in raiding at all. i've been browsing/posting on reddit, discord, and party finder but nobody wants a brand new player with literally zero experience. since i can't actually practice the raids without a group to show groups i am willing to put in the work, i'm not sure what i should be doing to try and get a group
Learning parties in PF, you'll learn the fights and more likely than not someone will be uploading the logs of the clears. If there are none up you can create your own and with enough patience they're bound to fill, especially with the influx of players that have come over with the new WoW train.
Statics are generally the better way to raid but you don't necessarily need one. You can easily kill the first 2 fights of a raid tier in party finder if you put in about the same effort as you would when playing in a static
Good watch! With DSW coming in 6.1 I've been thinking what they might bring to the table (pun intended) in terms of mechanics. I know they've dipped their toes a bit in "elevation" mechanics in Alexander, E4S and Heroes' Gauntlet so would like to see an ultimate take on that
Was there an update or a change to the overall stats of gear? Compared to the for example 600 Vitality, I have like 100 at much or less. That always bugged me but haven't got an answer lol
I just wanted to quickly address how different groups may deal with fflogs. Although you say casual and midcore statics focus more or too much on whether you are getting good logs, I have personally been turned down from multiple casual statics. For instance when I returned to the game after a break. I just wanted to enjoy some light hearted raiding and got turned down because my logs were too good and the group didn't think they could meet my expectations. So it's definitely not one sided.
I tired, did party finder to get xp, someone asked if I wanted to be in a static. Said yes, but told them I wasn't very good and had zero experience. E9S was fine, but I was struggling on E10S with the shadows/meteors and this dude got so Fing nasty with me, I stopped playing for 7 months. Tho I do recommend everyone try, it's ok if you try and not like it. Hope you all have a better experience then me.
That fight is legit the worst fight of the tier, seriously fuck orbs, and thank fuck my static is full of sweethearts who just laugh when their tank just sacs herself. I hope you give raiding another try! It's great fun when you manage to find a good group.
"please be ponctual, respect your peers time" ... a lot of statics lack of that. It's so important, because some members will wait eagerly for raid days, and will be frustrated if other members are late repeatedly, cutting down the time they get to play in a static environment. It sounds so simple, but it can become an issue really fast from my own experience
i play on console, and it seems like that would make harder content more difficult without access to act and some of these tools. is there a population of high end console players out there? or is that very rare?

Not necessarily. I'm in a group progging TEA and we've at least 2 folks playing on console. Worst case, console players can ask folks on PC to upload to FFLogs and/or XIV Analysis and they'll be happy to do so
@@Kazgrel yes I know now it's not mandatory to use ACT but it's basically expected that if you don't or can't, someone else will to use it for console user, so expect to always be recorded... You don't need to use ACT to do well. Its very useful but its still just a tool. Stone, Sky, Sea and looking at your position in aggro priority can give you a rough estimate of how you're doing. I do, however, recommend using fflogs and xivanalysis even if you don't use ACT. You can learn a lot by looking at the logs of top parsers for your job and plugging it into xivanalysis.

Is there a kind WHM or otherwise knowledeable person that could give it to me straight, what gear do I need to put on my WHM to lets say, show up on E1S and not look like a wannabe idiot? All those BiS guides ignore that fact that gear comes from savage and I have found very little resources about 'nearly' BiS until you get BiS. :-) I have Augmented Exarchic and 2 Augmented Cryptlurker pieces (chest/legs), with Aug Exarchic weapon. I'm not sure I fancy doing weapon, but I probably will, the rest of the gear is big black hole, difficult to compute for a newb.
Meld Crit until you can't meld crit anymore and then meld either Direct Hit or Determination. Direct Hit will increase your damage by a small amount and determination will increase your damage by an even smaller amount but will also increase your outgoing heals by a small amount :D
Usually for building any healer gear you will start with piety by choosing piety based on what you are comfortable with. For new raider I think at least 1k-1.2k is a good start. Other than that is like what momo said. Usually, I will create "Best in What I Have" (or atleast easy for me to get one) set in etro.gg and then hop on to balance discord for their gear planner spreadsheet, make a copy, put my number in and compare my set with their suggested set. You will be surprised for amount of dps gain BiS set has over what you have. (Very little)
@@axestump3590 Yass, this is the juice I've been missing, thank you so much. I have no comparative info and no experience in gearing up. So while I understood quickly what gear I can't have, it's very daunting to know what can be done with the gear I have. I shall follow your advice and well maybe, try to wing it a bit more since I won't waste everyone's time with gear I have if I spruce it up a bit. 🙌
@@avikarpik Sorry I was streaming while you posted this, the Augmented Cryptlucker stuff is generally better as it has a higher ilvl which means more main stat/HP at a basic level. Though it's not as easy when you try to optimize stats as a 520 exarchic piece with crit/det is going to generally be better than the 530 cryptlurker stuff gear that is det/pie.
So i am watchin this as i am laying dead in Eden normal because the fucking boss decided to make literally all of the arena except one fucking pixel a dead zone. How tf am i supposed to learn this? Pre-shadowbringers raids seemed wayyyy more fair compared to this bullshit. No telegraphs, nothing. Wooo imma cast something and you guess what it does.
You can do casual hours in a static and prog at your own pace it doesn't have to be stressful or filled with BS, If that's the experience you've had with it in the past then it sounds like an environmental issue, like your static or mindset.
Raiding only ever becomes a job if you decide to make it so, just because a few niche statics are hardcore doesn't mean they all have to be. My last static was pretty relaxed about everything and one of our players clicked their actions with their mouse. Just fine a group that vibes

All those BiS guides ignore that fact that gear comes from savage and I have found very little resources about 'nearly' BiS until you get BiS. :-)
I have Augmented Exarchic and 2 Augmented Cryptlurker pieces (chest/legs), with Aug Exarchic weapon.
@@FFXIVMomo Mm, should I meld Aug Exarchic or finish Aug Cryptlurker set? Appreicate the response though
Wooo imma cast something and you guess what it does.
seems way too complicated
do I know you?
5 secs in and youre speaking spanish lmao
so if i want to raid i need a fucking resume? Wtf
Raiding is a job you do not get paid for. Lots of stress. Lots of bulls**t. Lots of time invested. NO MONEY.
You can do casual hours in a static and prog at your own pace it doesn't have to be stressful or filled with BS, If that's the experience you've had with it in the past then it sounds like an environmental issue, like your static or mindset.
seeing this makes me disappointed in ffxiv. Was hoping doing end game without resume not like wow was, but it end up another wow clone.
how to turn a game into a job guide
Raiding only ever becomes a job if you decide to make it so, just because a few niche statics are hardcore doesn't mean they all have to be. My last static was pretty relaxed about everything and one of our players clicked their actions with their mouse. Just fine a group that vibes
