As an owner of an '86 930 3.3 Strosek black on black I completely agree. There is no other car like it. Would not trade it for any new Porsche or any other car. Every time you drive it is a memorable experience that you actually remember. The ownership of this car is a life changing experience. You will experience good and bad times (when something breaks). A childhood hero that you should meet. Stay boosted!

I always try not to overdo it. But this video is in my eyes up to now the best video about Porsche 911. Great shots of his silver 930, sweeping through "wintry" and empty L.A. at night, short historical outline, some technical data and that pumping 80s beats in the background, just the way I love it. It definitely sets an audiovisual monument to the 930 like no other video before! To put it in Magnus' words: keep boosted. Couldn't say it better...

  • @florto24
    @florto24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +86

The 930 has something that many other cars lack, speed, design, character, timelessness, sound. Modern cars might look like spaceships. But this thing looks like perfection. It was made to be the fastest and now is admired because its no longer very fast but its still something to look up for. True timelessness. A testamony that striving for perfection is worth the effort.

    • @SmashGhost

Modern cars lack speed? They lack "design" (by which you likely mean style). They lack sound, as if a 9,000rpm GT3 isn't far better sounding than the vacuum cleaner 930...

Wow, another great video. I recently sold my modded / boosted 930 to fund a Longhood resto. But damn I miss her. Bigger turbo, brakes and more suspension, not to mention sticky 335 out back make the car so much “better” than stock. To use an overused word: Epic! I recently bought a nice man 997 X51 to fill a gap until the modded ‘71 is ready w near enough 380 hp you would think it’s fast “enough” … but no. The old 930 fast or whatever it was left you with a feeling that you knew it was possibly your last drive! Scary, fast, exciting that is what an aircooled Turbo is. If you haven’t driven one you will not get it. Stay boosted 👍😎

The Porsche 930 may have been the first production car made by Porsche to sell in America but the Corvair was the first successful production turbo car sold in America from 62-66. Yes, I know Oldsmobile did it in 62 as well but it was a fail. I remember driving the owners 76 930 when it was needing exercise. Had to laugh about the turbo lag. Yes, driving a 930 requires calculations. It’s a car that challenges your math skills and you better be right and on top of things. Such was the case driving any early 911 before tire stagger. I like driving cars you need to have some fear and respect for. My personal preference though is a early 911 with Weber or mechanical injection. The sounds it makes. The raw mechanical feel and precision. Few cars can match and a joy to have experienced.

I own a 1996 Saab 9000 Aero. It's Similar to this car in performance & that's one reason I bought it, I've had a love for the 930 since I was 15 & after 5 years I want it more than ever. I've fallen in love with the Saab despite the small issues it has, it handles brilliantly, It's 0-60 is 6 seconds with a top speed of 142MPH, It has some decent turbo lag unless you time it correctly, it takes a decent amount of pressure on the pedal to stop & as you said, it's an engaging feeling that makes you fall in love.
The 930 Turbo will forever be my dream Porsche & I hope one day I can hop into one. For now I have my non Porsche, Swedish Porsche!

In high school I used to skip unnecessary periods (gym) and go check out all the used car dealerships in a 20 mile radius. One had an eclectic foreign inventory with a gorgeous 70's yellow 912. That's when I fell in love with Porsches. It was quite small not very powerful (flat 4?) But my lord it had a presence... "Test drove" it every chance they'd give me... Saved enough newspaper (Remember those?) money for a sizeable down payment- bloody insurance said no way in Hades. Still dream of it, as you can tell. Timeless designs... So strange how huge 911's are today compared with the earlier years, positively massive, yet hide it well. Cheers!

That whisper at the end combined with the love for this manufacturer, while looking at my Lego 930 Turbo, made all the hair errect.
    Goosebumps central! ✨🤤✨

I've got a late '77 and while it's true they were restricted with emissions controls and low boost, they respond very well to free-flow exhaust and an intercooler. Just removing the destructive smog system and adding the Euro exhaust does wonders and with headers, K27, intercooler and 1 bar it's as fast as a manual 991 gt3. Good vid.

Loved this video. LA/Tokyo; metropolitans, "American Wangan" when I was a young lad saw these cars seldomly. It was Wangan Midnight that drew me to really love these 930s. 930 is a beautiful machine one of Porsches best

This is my Holly Grail Porsche. I worked at Leith Porsche/Audi in 1987 and had the opportunity to drive many 911 Turbo S’s and it was my favorite. Now they are more expensive today than they were iback then.

I had the good fortune of owning one. I was due for a new car and instead talked my wife into letting me buy a used 930 for roughly the same price as new well equipped Toyota/Nissan/boring-mobile. I only had it for two years for reasons that are too long to explain but that was two years I’ll never forget. Need for speed: Satisfied. Bucket list item: Checked. Time of your life kid? Hell yeah!

He really has the viewer riding shotgun on this midnight 930 Blade Runner-style blast through town! Such a great video. Magnus is an amazing host for these, and manages to be a Porsche brand ambassador without sounding like a PR guy.

While I agree with most everything said, I disagree with the comment on the Countach. The Countach was even more important to Lamborghini than the 930 was to Porsche. Porsche already had the 911. Yes the Miura was the first Supercar but it was the Countach that forever established Lamborghini as the iconic Supercar maker.

I agree! The countach poster on my bedroom wall impressed my male friends and seduced the females! It was Epic….before the term really became popular.

yeah i thought the same; only car people know about the Miura, the Countach is the iconic Lambo and the 930 looks like just another 911
