  • In tonight's livestream, James Larson and Gene discuss the review we just posted on the Paradigm Founder 100F (MSRP: $5200/pair) and 70LCR speakers (MSRP: $1,700/ea). These speakers are packed with new technologies based on the Persona series but at more affordable pricing. We discuss the sound quality, build quality, and product strengths as well as some of the not so stellar measurement results of the 70LCR. We discuss the enormous potential of the waveguide approach to the coaxial driver of the 70LCR that will likely mature and be refined in time with further iterations.

Was a privilege to watch these get developed while working there. Still think these are great looking. I could answer some of the unknowns that came up in this video... (Tweeter design/ cabinet brace/ etc) **having watched them built and iteration of design** ...but I was made aware very seriously... that its not my job to say or showcase. So, I hope an official rep can provide answers regarding their choice/design. I can drop names..but Im pretty sure you already know who to ask. 🙏😇
I still think(feel) the Signature s8 v3 was the best they ever made... however... Id love to see an update to the Signature style come forward with some of these newest technologies and cone/driver materials.
    Kudos James/Gene. Nice presentation.

I love my 100F's and my 90C, wish they could have measured the 90C vs the 70LCR to see how different they are to each other. It might help people decide if the extra $1k for the 90C is really worth it or not. These are great sounding speakers. Yes, i've heard better, and the 800Fs are closer than you would probably think given the money, but as pointed out, half of what you're buying with the Founders is the fit and finish, which is absolutely spectacular.

    Question about Founders 70..center.
I have at moment prestige 75f front speakers and trying a SVS ultra center..
The SVS sounds stellar, and lively like the prestige speakers.
That being said, would the founder 70 be better than SVS? or worse with off axis responce and less crisp.
Want to make the right decision.. 😁

I wonder if the price difference for the Founders series is worth it over the Premier. You could buy a pair of 800F and the 600C for the same price as a pair of 100F and still probable have money left over to buy a subwoofer.

I heard the 800fs and the 100fs at a dealer....to me the 100fs were so much better I couldn't buy the 800fs. Trust me I would have preferred spending less. But knowing how good the 100fs were I went with them and the 90c. The dealer was fantastic and I got a great discount which really made it a no brainer. I couldn't be happier!! when your place the subwoofers against the wall what is the optimal phase alignment with the main speakers woofers distance? you prefer to have them out of phase ? ideally the woofers in the main drivers should be.

A speaker cabinet is surely only there to contain the negative phase of speaker cone motion. Isn't a free air driver an ideal? Look at the extremes of the concept 500s and decoupling. I don't understand the negativity around paradigm's approach. Would you criticise monitor foam wedges? Isoacoustics business model?

Back in the day I lusted after the studio series but now that I have the cash I just can't spend thousands on speakers with such weird treble, messed up directivity index, and overall frequency response tilted in the wrong direction. Perhaps too much of the total effort was spent on creating that tsunami of nonsense marketing terms.

Your floor has a lot more mass than your speakers, but you found that isolating a speaker or subwoofer from the floor had an effect. We would assume Paradigm isn't just wasting money on this and they proofed it as useful. It's not something you can see for marketing purposes so it's a pretty useless expense if it isn't doing something. Probably, it's tuned to some frequencies that the cabinet is most naturally excited at.

After watching the video I feel that James was holding back what he really feels about the 100f .. when you asked him how they compare to persona 5h he couldn’t remember but the video a month ago he clearly said he likes the premier 600f more then the persona .. Gene when listen to the 100f you easily give them 5/5 I’m sure of that :) having the 100f for about a month now which are bi amped with Yamaha RX Z11 along with 2 prestige 1000SW set the subs in stereo mode i find the setup absolutely amazing !! Before I could hear the bass coming from back corner or in the front but now I can’t tell where the bass is coming from 😱😎 I have to say the 100f is the perfect sound in my setup .

After about 15 years of audio buying and selling and upgrading and on and on and on. I've had so many different high end speakers. The Legacys are it for me. They've thoroughly scratched every upgrade itch I've ever had. Well worth the journey.

Midrange driver needs a larger voice coil to make room for tweeter mounting shaft in pole piece.Speaker driver decoupling was a fad popular in the 1980/90's that went away.Don't agree with it.If your driver is free to vibrate forward and backward while playing there must be some interference with the wave they produce.

Interesting comment at the beginning that the technically recorded measurements are quashed by the brains measurements. Hmmm sounds like an OC psychologist needs to conduct an assessment of the assessment process. I’m am being playful and honest at the same time, I love the Audioholics team. Here’s the comment from 1:04 “Some of the measurements look bad on paper, but don’t necessarily translate to bad sound … and if you don’t interpret the measurements carefully and what the measurements mean you could a wrong representation of the product and think the product is garbage.” & “And you can only discern so much from reading a graph …”. I agree with all these comments and applies to many different sciences. Therefore what is a scientific way to measure consistently what is garbage and what is not? Maybe Audioholics needs to create an assessment process that filters out garbage from non garbage that all reviews can be equally compared. This is a time of global reform on equally lol.
For example, a B&W 801 feels different t then a B&W 800 when played at the same volume. 1x 15” per speaker of direct bass in stereo feels different than 2x 10” woofers per speaker.
How do we eliminate the brains opinion vs the measured science? Do you need new measurement tools or do you need to create a different type of report?
I love the reviews, this is a challenge to raise the game and come up with a revised way to report. That might mean new measurement software that allows one to extract the graphs and graphically change the format into visually des playing data that’s reliving vs not. Eg coloured charts that mark out non-audible sounds so the reader sees that those measurements are garbage and not to be considered. I don’t know the process, just looking for the result.
Oh and my wife in the other room says .., lol.
Thanks James, keep up the good work!

You know, I don't really care if someone likes a speaker or they don't as that's a matter of personal taste. But when a guy questions or criticizes something they know nothing about either the design purpose or the actual effect that always bothers me. James whining about the decoupling method is just foolish for a man of such otherwise technical competence. Does it make a difference? I don't know and he doesn't know. But Paradigm thinks it does. So, either ask them for their measurements that show it's value or perform your own tests to see if you can discern a difference. Otherwise just move on.
