    Seductive style, new technology, and premium interior furnishings promise to finally elevate the Chrysler 200 to the top of the extremely competitive family sedan segment. Will it be enough to make buyers forget about the rental grade accommodations of the previous generations?

    I am the owner of a 200c that I purchased 8 months ago fully loaded for 28k. I have to say that my 200c is the best car I have ever owned. No mechanical issues and I get about 19 mpg city and have gotten around 40 mpg on the highway. The engine (295 hp) sounds amazing and if you give it some gas, man does this thing fly. Also, the interior looks and feels like a 50k+ luxury car and I love the remote start and all of the other little things like that that Chrysler put into the car. Just wanted to say that since people seem to hate it in these comments who only rented the car :)

    The fact this car is going to be discontinued in the near future is a rather sad. Yes the Dart & 200 aren't bestsellers but killing all of Chrysler's small cars to only build SUVs sounds like a suicide move once gas start costing $70/barrel again.
    Please don't let history repeat itself.

    • @lcar4000
      @lcar4000 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Trades46 I didn't think they were going to discontinue this car. What I read was, they plan to keep building it for several more years and then determine what to replace it with.

    • @Trades46
      @Trades46 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      lcar4000
      What I read is FCA is diverting all attention to Trucks & SUVs because gas prices has been sitting at all-time low for awhile. Frankly, looking at the FCA production plans, I see nothing in the pipeline that will replace the 200 & Dart.
      Heck, even the upcoming Alfa Romeo Giulia has been postponed due to FCA's hard-on for big gas-guzzling vehicle fetish the USA has for since 2014.

    • @lcar4000
      @lcar4000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If that's the case, I think they are making a big mistake. When the gas prices go up, and they will sooner or later, they'll be in the same situation chrysler's been in many times: the wrong products.

      @Trades46 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fun fact; if you're old enough to remember what happened to Chrysler corporation in the 1970s, you know karma is a cruel mistress.
      I've always thought Sergio Marchinonne (CEO of FCA) was a greedy short-sighted idiot. Even former Ferrari CEO Luca Di Montezemolo, who ran the company since the late Enzo himself died, couldn't tolerate his crap (which I heard, informally mind you, is why he resigned in 2014).

    I think that Chrysler has taken a step in the right direction, after all, the CUSW platform (Compact U.S. Wide) is a proven platform, and using Dart components (its Tigershark engine) and the nine-speed auto, as well as the 3.6 V6, it looks expensive, even though it isn't. I sat in a 200s without any options that a dealer had at a tent event and it felt nice, though I haven't driven one. I may see if I can grab one at the rental lot next month and test it for myself (:

    I worked for a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership for a few years before recently being promoted into a new position at a Subaru dealership. And it really annoys me how locked into a certain opinion most people are about Chrysler products. It is understandable, given that before their merger with Fiat AG they did indeed build nothing but crap. And many commenters here have pointed out there shameful history... But any real car guy, or gal, should be unbiased and realize that companies and carmakers can change. You should keep up with what's going on currently, not forever hang on to opinions that are based on the past. And, CURRENTLY, Chrysler LLC is building bad ass cars! Sure some of there heavily revised models will have a few bugs now and then (i.e. the ZF 8 and 9 speed transmissions their using in pretty much all their cars and trucks now), but that's only because they're pushing the envelope technologically, especially compared to the competition (for instance, the UConnect is the best infotainment interface on the market, period). Anyways, let the haters be silenced for cryin out loud.
    By the way, keeping up with product knowledge as a car salesman is not as easy as you'd expect. You may know EVERYTHING about the one particular car you're looking for, but us salesmen have to know just enough about the 1000 or so different option combinations to get us by and actually sell 'em, lol

      +AngelBaumz He mixes "stock" video provided by the manufacturer with video of the actual car he is driving. Many of the exterior driving shots are from "stock" video. Some of the interior wide angle shots also. In this review we are just lucky it is the same color as the S that he is driving. Would be nice if he could add a text overlay indicating "video provided by manufacturer" or something.

      jeff cowen from what i am reading / read etc. fiat bought,or is in process of buying the remaining 47-49 percent of them. and the headquarters will be in london.
      totally italian owned , headquartered in england.
      fiat is invilved with everything. its their car now.
      i think because of lack of funds and , they are smaller than ford or chevy , more of the cars have been made here. more than the other two. i think. but , ive always not liked them , because they could never get their act together. for a long time. since the early seventies. always putting out , well , crap. alliances with other makers not really doing so much, except for mitsubishi maybe. remember renault? and mercedes , i mean they blew it badly. but some are better already - charger/challenger. they , fiat , spent more on interiors , and sorted out the bad suspensions. now they get higher ratings. hope they do good. but its an italian company. sucks really. fiat can promise whatever , but italy is italy.

Pretty cush ride, though the controls layout needs improvement, and lack sinple details as a handle to close the trunk without touching the paint. I had a basic 200 as a rental car. I was very surprised all around, when I was vacuuming it before I brought it back I saw the cost cutting on the seatbelt pillar/carpet cuts, but the seats were soft (cloth), the engine note surprised me, I wish the climate control zones had physical buttons but all in all it was a great car to have for as long as I did.
    Also, is it just me or is the exhaust pipe nearly invisible? The higher trims have dual exhausts built into the bumper (accented in chrome) but on my rental I could never actually *see* it.

    I'd probably get the base 4 banger and call it a day. Max MPG matters more to me than 0-60. Front wheel drive is good enough around here too, since the plows come out early and often in winter. Plus I already have a 2WD/4WD/AWD selectable SUV.
    It's definitely a sharp looking car.

    if I were to purchase a new family car. My personal is the Maserati Ghibli. Who ever whined about the acceleration can't see past their own immaturity. Family cars are not about acceleration. They are about safety and efficiency. the Cr is .24 Look that up. that means the PentaStar does not push alot of air to get down the road, which equals good MPG.

    All in all since I have it for a while, it's definitely better asian cars I have drove. I was kinda impressed that Chrysler got it right this time except with the annoying shift knob and of course they added 3 more knobs to annoy you especially when your driving it for the first week you will be playing raffle draw on which knob you just shifted. Besides that the paddle response isn't that bad like people say about it.

    I'm in the market for a new (used) car, and the Chrysler 200 S or C (AWD) are one of the contenders along with BMW 328 and Audi A3. The V6 does sound amazing and that's a lot of horsepower for a midsized sedan, but I don't really care for how it looks. It does look better in red and black, but I think it's trying too hard to be a luxury car or even a catch-all when it's clearly built for performance. That's one of the reasons why I prefer the BMW--it's a sports car first and worries about luxury second. As for the Audi, it does well at being both, plus it's a little rarer, though I do think the A4's look sharper.

    The rotary dial shift I think was a dumb idea, it brings back a fad from the 1950s and 1960s that never caught on, now in electronic form. Kudos to Dodge Challenger and Charger for keeping a shifter.

    • @DJMontePGH
      @DJMontePGH 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I happen to like the rotary. A big metal rod sticking out always gets in the way. Land Rover has been using rotary shifters and I think they look nicer and just work better. I think they should go to push button turn signals and wipers too. These stick changers and shifters are a think of the past. The only thing that should remain a stick is an actual stick shift. A manual.

  • @RobHeathers
    @RobHeathers 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Chrysler's first aerodynamic design? Did you forget about essentially every car they created in the 1990s...and most of the '80s? The Taurus might get all the credit, but Chrysler's "Cloud Cars" & LH platform were far more advanced than their competitors.
    How about the wedge designs of the '80s? They certainly didn't age well, but nor did anything else from the '80s.
    And, of course, we mustn't forget about the Chrysler & DeSoto Airflow who were decades ahead of everyone else in terms of design technologies.

  • @willcordelo3967
    @willcordelo3967 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Redline, For the record you're NOT reviewing an "S" model here! "S" models don't have any chrome at all except, the little bit around the exhaust ports , which looks MUCH better than all the other models with chrome imo! Also, the only thing you can't get with the "S" model is the safety package so it wouldn't have those sensors on the front end like the "C" model in the video! Another difference is that the "S" model has tighter suspension and the "C" has a softer ride!

    No I respectfully disagree. Most v6 sedans in a the segment are faster than the 200 s. The altima v6 and Camry v6 will hit 60 in less than 6 seconds. The accord v6 coupe with a 6MT will hit 60 in 5.5 seconds and that has "only" 270hp vs 295 in the 200 s

    I like the new 200,the taillight remind me of the scion FRS and the 295 hp v6 is great even for a the young crowd and for the interior(two tone) 10/10 in my book.
    On the v6, have some kind of eco mode like the optima, Sometimes(roadtrips) I want better gas mileage, especially on a v6.
    The name "200" really doesn't sound appealing when you hear it especially for some that know the old "200". For what this car offers it deserves a name like "The Chrysler 301" Why 301? Because it's more luxurious and faster than the "300" and takes away the old "200's" name.
    For the 4cyl, Add a Turbo or at least offer a Turbo model. Most people might appeal towards good MPG and somewhere around 270ish hp. I would.
    Personally I think the LX model should be wiped out and replaced with Turbo model. You can't let any less than the "limited" than what it already offers especially trying while competing and trying to reviving the old 200'name.
