This hit a home run for me. I lost over 50 pounds at home, alone. I thought I looked pretty good and decided to join a gym with an abundance of confidence. However, people at the gym still thought I looked fat ( size US 16 ) and I became very self conscious. Strangers had no concept that perhaps I was on a health journey and doing very well. Instead, I allowed them to make me feel shame and I quit going to the gym. I have lost more weight but feel even more embarrassed about going back to the gym because I have loose skin and lumps and bumps now. I have to make myself a goal to shop around and find the right type of gym that makes me feel welcome…ironically, those gyms are more expensive. Great video.
I'm a little late to the party on this but thanks so much for speaking out. I'm a UK 16 and started back at the gym this summer having been 'away' since Covid. I am thrilled that my gym has people of all sizes and ages as customers. Some girls who look like they belong in a magazine as well as grannies and plus size ladies who are working on their health journey. Guys from 16 to 80, skinny kids trying to build muscle and some who'd fit in at Golds Gym. We have to get away from those old stereotypes, it really is bullshit. Everyone is on their own mission and should be able to get on with it without assholes writing nasty messages online. Loving your channel and glad I found it today.
Yes Ben! I found those comments utterly disgusting, but it only highlighted their stupidity. I love that GymShark are standing up against ignorance and supporting inclusivity actively and not just as a PR stunt 🔥
Well said!! I’ve just started posting about my weight loss and I’m mid sized. I’ve received messages and comments from both ends saying “I’m not big enough to be making a deal out of my weight loss” and “I’m too out of shape to be doing the workouts I do” etc. So the comments on this post just hit me the wrong fricken way lol simply put and spot on my friend.
Videos like these is exactly why I subscribed to you. More nuance in the discussion about what is fitness and health is sorely needed in the fitness space in general. It is no secret that mental health and physical health are tightly connected and bullying like this worsens the mental health of both thin and thick as they are forced into a "beauty norm", nevermind the pretentious garbage that is forcing your personal ideal for beauty on someone else. People like you and Eric Helms, who discusses the prevalence of eating disorders in bodybuilding, are sorely needed and I wished more people at least brought it up in passing.
"I guarantee that I could be beaten on every single fitness test going by someone with a bodyfat percentage that higher than mine." - Great point - leaner doesn't necessarily equal stronger, faster, more conditioned

because you are one of those unfit people who just dont have the motivation to be better but instead wishing everyday that someone will tell you that everyone else is just as unhealthy and unfit as you and it is okay. Well here's one for your feelings.
@@djshadowpain your comment doesn't seem even a little bit relevant to the one you are replying to. They pointed out two conflicting opposing messages, you somehow projected your opinion onto them. Do better.
Watching this a year later and it's so true. I am 6ft 2 and am severely obese as I put on 11kg during lockdowns. I was already unfit and weighing 130kg before that. I decided to do something about it and whilst I'd always played football, I needed some clothes to pick up the gym and running. Couldn't find anything so wear normal cotton t-shirts (I was an xxl). In 5 months I've now dropped 16kg through eating 2100kcal a day, lifting 5 times a week and running 7k 3 times a week (obviously had to build up to that). There are now people with a lower bf% who couldn't run as far as fast or lift as much but would still look down on a fat guy in their gym. Without the clothes, how does anyone want people to better their cardiovascular system and overall health through exercise.
Absolutely correct… I’m not thin but everyday I’m moving, hauling, slinging 70-90 lbs bales of hay for my horses, mucking out stalls and literally haul $hit by wheelbarrow full and I can out lift my 6’4 husband without breaking a sweat and he would be considered by the fitness people as “fit”.
Yeah it's so weird because they're trying to sell a compression garment. They're not going to show a model with a flat abdomen because that's not going to demonstrate what it does.
I have used many a whitening product in my time but this is probably an effect of the ring light shining on my face. They don't look like this in regular photos :)
🎉❤👍👏this right here. I remember quite a few years ago one of the TV Chanel’s (pre streaming and satellite being the norm) about fitness and its myths and dieting. There was a chubby guy on and they took his weight and measurements to health professionals and fitness professionals who called him fat to clinically obese. He actually competed in triathlons. Regularly. When the “professionals “ tested his fitness he was well fit and healthy but to look at he was just your Joe blogs run of the mill chubby bloke. Looks can be deceiving. Like the plus sized girl who is extremely overweight due to unseen health conditions and mental health who does ballet and can spin and leap and has been and still is bullied despite people knowing her weight is largely due to health problems. Folk should just shit their faces and keep their unwanted unkind opinions to themselves and be less judgy or judge silently if they feel they have to!
If something that brand is showing how certain clothing can help to “look the part”…. Because is not different that using filters and retouch pics. I want to buy that brand cause will help my contour my body while reaching my goal 🤣
And I mean that picture fas perfect, just the fact how much those gym leggings flattered even her more normal body and she ain't even obese, but those are the ones who keed gym the most.
My dexa scan shows 25% BF but I have low cholesterol and very low levels of visceral fat meaning most of my fat is subcutaneous fat that is harmless. One of the skinny ass guys I know told me to get cholesterol tested but I am pretty sure most of the skinny ones who think they are healthy have very high levels of visceral fat which doesn't show on the outside and maybe even high cholesterol.
inferior noun 1. a person lower than another in rank, status, or ability. now how a person working out regularly could be better in something / looking better or healthier than the person spending their life on couch eating who just decided to hit the gym? And why would it not affect your social status in between the active people? BTW I don't see how this persons comment mentioned anything whatsoever about him being better than others. And if he was then he worked for it anyway
There is a niche in every market. No one is promoting super fit people is an act of shaming out of shape people. With the same logic, we are all gonna dumb down everyone just so the idiots and slobs can feel better. There is a reason why professional sports, and "leaders" exist. So that we all can be inspired to be better. Fact is, insecure social justice people pretending to be "normal" people just want to stick their nose into everyone else's business and pretend to have their feelings hurt. The best part is, they project this on everyone else being insecure, being unable to accept "norms." Goes on to accuse people who look fit and good to be on steroids. Every company will sell out at some point, Gymshark had quickly forgotten that, it is those insecure, steroid abusing muscle heads who promoted their shit when Ben Francis was still sewing those apparels in his basement. This is a big Fuk you and those who wont be buying their shit to workout will be cheering them on. There are only so many people in the "fitness" community, so when their CEO tries to diversify and grow their market, they also derailed on their original purpose. Soon, gymshark will be selling maternity wear and DIY furnitures.
@@BenCarpenter Actually I don't ask question. My point is not all male gymshark customers don't look like juicy muscular dudes like they post everyday. I think they must share post like this one.
Just because she looks like that now doesn't mean she isn't into fitness. Sure, she most likely isn't a current pro or hard-core athlete, but chances are she's working hard to improve herself physically in some way. Everyone had to start somewhere. Not everyone who works out is automatically shredded immediately.

Judging a person for being overweight at a gym is like judging a person at a hospital for being sick
