  • Originally I had only transcribed this with the 2A03, but while I was uploading it, I thought I could have used an expansion chip to improve the sound... So I canceled the upload and started work on the MMC5 part.
    Credit to Tim (and Geoff?) Follin for making one of the best NES soundtracks of all time.

      so many videogame metal covers suck ass, they literally just play the song 1:1 with a really generic electric guitar

      What if it was adjusted to match the tempo of the PAL release? Tim Follin was known for composing primarily for the slower sounding PAL NES.

    Amazing job recreating this song! This is such a complex song so it must've been really hard, not just for NES standards, but in general!

      @@RED40HOURS There's a branch of FamiTracker which can import NSF files. You can import the Silver Surfer NSF in it in one instance, and then transcribe any/all of the song from there to another FT instance that has the extra sound channels enabled.

      You'd never hear this on any NES game. Only a Famicom game.
      The extra pins that allowed for something like this were relocated from the cartridge slot to the expansion slot on the bottom of the NES.

      The NES is mono, but some people use Famitracker to create stereo sound.

      Look at the top of each channel, he's running them through FX channels.

      FX patterns are used for effects like arpeggio, duty cycles, pitch bending, delay, etc.
      you can't pan the channels with them
      fx2, fx3 are used for using 3 effects at the same time.

    The game could have used the MMC5 for SFX, instead of keep interrupting the music while shooting, but unfortunately the American and European NES are not compatible with expanded audio. :(

      I don't really know nor have "anything" at the current moment but my concepts, ideas, a few SNES Soundfonts with LMMS, and a little KORG Gadget on my phone.
      Just a quick question, can I use a MiDi keyboard on Famitracker? I can't really go anywhere with music unless I can see where I've placed my notes. Even then I'm just but a mere amateur. Can barely think of an original tune unless it's a boss, haunted, or main theme. It's... something for now.

      @@hazelkinoko4779 midi works fine but on a very basic level, i.e. no realtime recording and notes volume; also famitracker has no ASIO support so expect a 300 ms delay when playing. MIDI device works just as a replacement for the qwerty keyboard
