Level 1 (Silver Surfer NES) - GaMetal Remix (2020 Revision)

- One of the most bangin' songs from the NES era returns to GaMetal!

The main reason I've remade this remix is simply because I love this song so much.
When I was working really hard on improving on guitar back in 2013, it was one of my goals to be able to play this particular song. By 2014 I was able to do that, and made the Silver Surfer NES Stage 1 remix, but now after years of playing it, I can do it much better.
Silver Surfer is one of Tim Follin's many legendary NES soundtracks (others being Solstice, Pictionary, Treasure Master, etc) and this is one of his most well known songs, and for good reason: it's killer!
Enjoy!

"8-Bit games have sound limitations"
Tim & Geoff Follin: What limitations?
Limitations are just there to push yourself to do better.
@@SharkLordProductions Funny enough this is actually why I believe so many games feel bland and boring nowdays.
Fun fact: Actually, it DID have limitations. But Tim came to the rescue by changing one of the major sound effects channels.
R.U.S.E 35 100% agreed. That's also why most of the good games nowadays are indie games, since they prioritize actual quality over technical aspects.
Honestly working against the limitations is what made them such great composers. What have they done recently?
THE WEIRD PLAYING POSITION
THE CRAPPY EXPLOSIONS
THE BANGER MUSIC
HE DID IT ALL
I would've brought back the silver curtains but I don't have enough for my walls now :(
@@JonnyAtma That is the biggest of oofs.
1:13 i love this throwback
Game Director: Do you know what kind of music would be suitable for our new game?
Tim Follin: No, but how about this!!
Game Director: You're hired.
"HOW DO YOU DIE FROM JUST TOUCHING A WALL???!!!"
I understand if you were going like 200mph and *"pounds fist into palm"* crashes, into the wall, but the fact that he just, touches, the wall, and dies, is just ridiculous.
I CAN'T TOUCH THAT RED POT????
"silver surfer? silver shit"
@@bossrosslp Apparently, he can't touch the rubber ducky, either.
Many of Marvel's heroes and villians were not strong enoungh to break Silver Surfer's board. But a little wall should do.
This remix might be of a song from a game about a silver guy, but the remix itself is pure platinum.
More like Star Platinum, eeeh? :D
@@MasterNix ORA?
@Corvus Dominus Wryyyyyyyyyy
Joke should have been "pure gold" since that's the term.
Still works though 👍👍
Badum tish
Rest in Peace Geoff Follins, your work will be remembered, even if you weren't all too fond of it yourself.
wtf I didn't know he died
It takes a multi-talented musician, instruments, and editing software to recreate what some dude did with an NES sound chip.
The dude who did this is a legend.
It's a shame we'll never get another video game composer quite like Tim Follin (or Geoff Follin for that matter). Their video game tracks were all absolutely fantastic!
I mean, VinylCheese is a really close second to Tim Follin in terms of style, although I wish Tim would make more music.
IF ONLY he had composed for good games. Sad enough to make a grown man cry
@@BottomOfTheDumpsterFire The Pictionary music is the most baffling to me, "so youre just gonna lay down a simple game show jingle right?" Tim, "yeah sure" Proceeds to shred for 20 minutes
@@ManofNaise Equinox is a simple game about solving puzzles so let's just go all out and have full several minute ambient tracks on a SNES. So much good stuff.
Anamanaguchi, the band for made the soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game, make pretty similar music. They mix both rock and chip tune music.
This is how the Follins had it in their heads. Awesome composition, awesome performance.
Me : "How can a music this good be in a game this bad."
Sonic Fans : "Hold my beer"
Never to this ridiculous extreme though!
Cheetahmen: "Amateurs."
Paper Mario: Hold my stickers
@@Plasmariel you forget Sonic 06 happened, then
Cyberpunk 2077: Nah watch this shit.
That explosion at the start is well deserved, because this track is a BLAST
Oh, boy! Can’t wait for all the AVGN references!
AAAAASSSSSSSSS if...
I came for that, stayed for the music.
I got your references right here!!
I CANT TOUCH THAT RED POT?
Fuckin.... Jack o lanterns?
That harmonic thing at 2:01 blew my mind. Wow.
I remember hearing a thrash metal version of this and it was so good! I love heavy metal and hearing proper local thrash metal band play it was amazing! Thrash metal is considered to me my favourite sub genre. RIP the Follin Brothers
As the person who had to play this dumbass game, I am glad the awesome cover distracts from the fact I may have cheated a bit :p
Man. I remember listening to the original version when it came out, and it was outstanding. You knocked it out of the park once again! I'm a bigger fan with how this one ends. The old just kinda... ended. You got more elaborate with this one. Outstanding job, dude!
From here there is only one place to go, one of the pinnacles of TIm Follin.
SOLSTICE NES HERE WE COME!
Nice to be able to listen to the song without screaming my lungs off in rage.
Pause the game and the music will keep playing. It'll change your life
Dude, you can tell how much more skill you have in your instruments in this one over the original cover. It's ridiculous.
This cover gave me chills and almost made me cry, you captured the original essence of the song and tuned it up to the max, so amazing
I literally just discovered this song today, this coincidence could not be greater lmao
Damn, I was looking for a cover like this 3 years ago!! Thanks for posting, man. This was a joy to hear.
This is genuinely your best performance on any song. The number of different techniques you had to perform approximately matches with this game's difficulty. This is my favorite cover on your channel now.
The original version was how I first discovered this channel! It's amazing to see how much you've improved.
Don't think I didn't catch that bit of Satriani at 2:00! Masterfully done! The icing on the cake of a top tier cover dude.
Tim Follin liked that*
Wow. I don't particularly like the sound, the music or the style … but that's just a matter of taste. The effort & quality are top shelf here. Even the editing is excellent and has a distinct sense of humour. This might not be for me, but it absolutely is the kind of content that actually makes the internet a better place. How can I do anything other than like & comment praise. Genuinely great work. Hope you can keep on doing what you're doing.
This is one of my most favorite pieces of video game music. Thank you for this!👍
I absolutely love how much FUN it looks like you're having doing this!
最高ぅー!!何度も聞かせていただいたおります!
Holy balls. That was insane. Perfectly executed, good sir.
Bro you crushed it. The most METAL tune on the NES.
やばい!この曲楽器で演奏するの大変そうなのに更にアレンジされててカッコイイ!
見入ってしまった。
jesus christ brother you crushed that! hats off
Covering a Tim Follin track is a lot to live up to, but you nailed it. Great work!
I CAN'T TOUCH THAT RED POT?!!
Nice to see another AVGN fan here. I watched the Silver Surfer video too.
It's not bad! It's f***ing HORRIBLE!!
Despite how insanely hard and unfair this game is with only allowing one mistake the music totally kicks ass and gets that adrenaline pumping! Never would’ve expected you guys to cover it! Even AVGN would love this revision!
How can you dislike this? I made a second account just to like it twice.
DO I SEE BLOODY TEARS NEXT OH HECK YES
Edit: Called it
He did some other castlevania music.
He already did bloody tears
@@seabug05 He's doing remakes right now though. He already did a bunch of his recent songs before, so it's very likely Bloody Tears is next
Seabug 05 Hes doing revisions
I think that might be Trevor,not Simon...I sincerely hope I'm wrong...Bloody Tears>Beginning
The fucking editing being the same as the old one fucking sold this
Great job dude
That explosion is basically how I feel about this cover. Fantastic.
I think that's one of the best lead guitar riffs I've heard. Great job on the new remix!!
You brought this chip tune to life! The way it was imagined! So talented!
ive waited for this for so long
I don't think I've ever done a gasp this audible in my entire life. This remix brought me to the legendary Tim Follin, and I'm *stoked* to see that it's back in full force!!
So exited this one got remade!! This is great!!
I can't get enough of this !!!!!!!!!!! IT'S NOT ENOUGH!!!!!
Great choice and great rendition! An unknown gem of a song to most and you handled it like a champ!
Ok, this is eerily coincidental, because RabbidLuigi put out a new video TODAY about great music in bad video games, and this game was specifically mentioned because of Tim Follin! I only just discovered Follin and his works because of that, but he's a Legend! That being said, AMAZING remix as always, GaMetal!!
Not to mention his 2014 remix of the song being in the video
holy cow dude! you've improved sooo much!
NO ONE absolutely no one knows about this well played Sir!
honestly the perfect song for a metal cover, its filled with epic solos
Love hearing a Remix of this Awesome Game you Rock!
I’m 20 seconds in and this already slaps *HARD*
Haha yes I've been waiting for this!
This is absolutely brilliant. I keep going back to it. I feel that, through reading your comments, a good majority of your audience may not be musicians themselves...or maybe they've just been following you so long that they aren't surprised at the amount of work you put in. What I mean by that is, that I think the wider YT music world could really benefit from watching and listening to what you do. Playin four instruments and soloing like it was nothin, and constantly putting out tracks. You're a Legend.
YOOO this game's music was already amazing but this makes it so much better!
Going back to the old classics, eh?
This one absolutely is deserving of as many covers as it can get anyway.
Great ! As always
0:42 Wait up...oh.
Am i really the one who heard the finale from Bowser's inside story?
Nope, not at all
I heard it too!
so im not crazy?
Nah
Man, more Metal covers of Follin works are forever welcome
You can tell he had fun playing this.
Yes! The original one was straight fire, and this revision rocks even harder!
THIS IS THE GREATEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN
Holy cow! I never played this game but I know that is a really hard game to beat (based on the Avgn review). At first, I didnt think that a cover of a song based on this game would be a great idea but HOLY COW! You sure know how to rock out!
I don't like metal, but GaMetal's a whole other thing.
You should try metal some more because there are a lot of songs just like this. The closest to this is probably symphonic metal and power metal.
This song is similar th-cam.com/video/KPZ47_qMqYA/w-d-xo.html
Pretty intense for a first level theme.
"Pretty intense" is Tim Follin's specialty.
I mean... You could call it intense.
Pretty badass too
They should do an animation tribute to the silver surfer with this song!!! 🤩🤩🤩😁😎
Nice work dude, you are so amazing >:D
This is absolutely ridiculously out of control. Well put together my dude.
Okay this was pure fire. I've never played the game before but clearly it must be amazing since it has music like this.....................
"famous last words."
Man, pulling off some of these riffs on guitar and keyboard had to take a ton of practice (and probably editing). Top notch work.
Here from very noise by viot. Really awesome stuff, man
this is probably what tim follin heard in his head while composing this
3:01 R.I.P.
Great cover!
man, your original cover of this song was how I found out about your channel in the first place. that was like four years ago!
I have no clue why you decided to remake this song in particular but I’m not complaining at all. This one slaps so damn hard.. ( ´∀`)
I literally discovered this song yesterday lol. What a coincidence
Who knew that this song would rock so hard that GaMetal started to use Teleport in the middle of the song?
THIS IS SO SICK! Great work man ♥♥
This cover is as awesome as the NES game was difficult. And the game was an unrelenting, brutal, sadistic excursion into the depths of human patience.
I lost track of how many times I said "Ooh, FUCK!" This is gold, my man.
Great stuff! :)
That's some Insane Shredding man !!
Yes! well done! 🤟🔥
I need to get out more, if there are all these rockin' songs from random games I'm not hearing. 11/10 as per usual.
Such a cool song, from a licenced game, wow! This ain't gold, this is silver.
Starbound music for god knows how much I've posted this.
이 아재는 혼자 다 하시네 드럼 베이스 일렉 키보드까지... 캬 ㅠㅠ 진정한 만능 엔터테인먼트
Good lord this version RIPS!!! Amazing dude 🤘🤘🤘
Anyone else felt a coincidence that Jonny uploaded this the same day that Rabbidluigi talked about this game in his countdown today? Small world
Not to mention the fact that he used the 2014 cover in that video
Beautiful cover, bro! Would probably trigger some sort of PTSD in AVGN, though.
HOLY SH*T THIS IS AWESOME
Cool! I miss playing this game! It's one of the hardest games on the NES,once you get the pattern down, you can beat it repeatedly to show off
Amazing bro.
I’ve never even heard this theme before, but GaMetal can make literally anything so freakin’ hype-inducing it doesn’t matter :D
And rest assured I _definitely_ know my Castlevania music... whoo boy, I can already tell the next remix is gonna be kickass ^_^
was just listening to the older version, so sick!
This needs more views!
This sounds like it should be the themesong for a 90s marvel animated show
GaMetal never ceases to amaze me
If the nes game sounded like that I would have been playing it forever.
I don't even know how you got actual gameplay from this honestly. The music is 🔥🔥🔥 though
