    Nothing lazy about you Mr. Anderson. Man you do a great job with your animals. With the elements you have to deal with , and a budget , you do excellent job. I take a honest experienced man advise over a book learned expert any day. Always learning from you , keep good vids coming. Thanks.

    We are going into silage production for the first time this summer so will be interested in you video about waste by not covering the silage. We will be using pits we can excavate on sides of hills so will be a little different than you but will still need to cover the top. Thanks again for a interesting video.

    Hey buddy great video. It sounds just like my feeding program here the only difference is we grow feed grain to feed most of the winter. The pregnant cows dont get a whole lot of grain in the last trimester.
    PS.
    I think some racer babys would look good amongst those reds lmao

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you figure you lose 30% of your grain with out processing it for the cows. Calves chew better and I will feed whole oats, but not barley. No racer babies required here. lol

    If cattle are in a paddock with a grooved concrete floor, would you recommend having any bedding on top on the grooved concrete floor in the winter for the cattle to have better footing or just let them on the grooved concrete paddock flooring? The cattle can get inside of the barn 24/7, which has bedding. Our paddock’s drainage slots tend to dam up from bedding and create ponding, which then freezes. We’re new to cattle and unsure how to maintain our paddock floor in the winter. Thank you in advance for your help.

      It's the most bucks I've ever seen together. Down the road there are 2 trophy bucks that stay in a couple of well treed yards for hunting season.

    Keep 'em growing and happy, however much that takes. Do they respond better to TMR than separate feedings of various ingredients? Always nice to see the deer, too.

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is easier to make sure everything eats the same blend in a TMR. TMR would be the best, I like to hand feed the heifers and bulls every year so that they are easy going later on.

    That is some complicated feeding. Lol my cows get hay and straw and that’s usually it. But with our 2 year drought in Manitoba this year I was able to grab a contract for 9000 pounds of parsnips each week so hopefully that will help keep some weight on them. This spring I’m moving to a Greg Judy type grazing system because I hate feeding cows so to keep them on pasture longer would be very helpful I think.

      I usually buy 1000tonnes of pressed sugar beet pulp , but this year half the beets never got dug so I'm lucky to get 30T a week and it will all stop by Christmas. My pastures all have to be empty by October so moving cows twice a day with hot wires doesn't work especially on pastures 120miles away. I rent all my pastures.

    • @Amaranthian450
      @Amaranthian450 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      AndersonCattleCo. I’m blessed to have all my pasture in my back yard. I jump on the quad and can check 2200 acres in a day from home. My farthest pasture is 11 miles from home that I bought this fall. 3 quarters

    Nice video a few years ago when we had 3 straight weeks of -50 I was feeding about 40 mommy cows I went from feeding 4 rolls a day to 10 along with 400 pound of grain. I forget the numbers but for every 5 degrees below freezing cattle require a added percentage to there daily intake I guess I should of looked to see what the numbers was before writing all of this lol

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      20 years ago we got cold and stayed really cold for 8 weeks , cows ate everything they saw. We couldn't put enough straw out, they ate it all. Feedlots said that at the end the gains were good because we never yo-yo'd like we normally -40 one day +40 two days later.

    • @Theblindfarmer
      @Theblindfarmer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      AndersonCattleCo. That’s how it is here 3 days ago it was 19° and the very next day was 51° keeps everything a muck here. For every 1° below freezing add 1% to there daily intake . I don’t do it that precise lol they get about what every they can eat as far as dry feed I adjust there grain intake when it’s blue cold or when it gets really muddy to try and help off set the calories they use when pulling through the mud I think that the mud is worse than the freezing cold

    G'day from Northern Australia. Tipping my hat to another beef producer who grazes in an extreme environment. We're at the opposite end of the climate spectrum. We don't use horses here anymore for our annual muster. We contract helicopter mustering and contractors for the ground work.

    Put your mineral tubs in large truck tires to keep feisty bulls from turning them over.

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually just put lose mineral in the feed , I was just being lazy. I put mineral in a truck tire for the cows, but at $42/bag I tell the cows not to waste it. lol

      When it's 44C here I am in the house , blinds pulled , and praying the AC keeps working. We are pretty nice right now I'm hoping we don't get -40 this winter. Some winters we get off easy.

    • @milldenhayandstraw262
      @milldenhayandstraw262 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      AndersonCattleCo. That is about what we did today in our house I own balers and bale straw and hay for a living we are not baling any thing this week with it being so hot and dry. We think it’s cold when it gets to 5c in winter you have a huge fluctuation in temp

    Hey bud, what are your tricks with wintering the big bulls together to prevent fighting and injuries?

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      give them a big enough pen to fight when they first meet each other or get away from each other and after there is a pecking order it is pretty simple. They still fight a little bit but not much.

    yep he cut trees down so they could eat the leaves He feed 50 head for3 weeks like that,

  • @storminnormanz
    @storminnormanz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey im not knocking your way of thinking that you grow your own hay so you dont limit feed them, but you have to figure every bale you make yourself is worth the same dollar amount as bought hay, so you have to figure if a hay bale costs $50 to buy then the same bale you made yourself costs $50 even though it might have only cost you $10 to make it

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hay is $300/t here, I feed for the weather. If I bought all my hay at $300 I would feed grain and just enough hay for roughage. I figure out what it costs me , because if I can do it cheaper and sell feed money is money.

    Just curious had do they charge you for pasture rent and what do you get for that? Thanks

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have some summer pasture that costs me $1.50/head a day and it is hard to make money when winter feed costs so much.

    So if I may ask, you don't have any hay fields so you can harvest hay to feed to your animals through the winter instead of feeding them corn silage or grain and straw?? Cuz I thought if you were able to have hay fields, you can save your straw for bedding cuz I use straw once in a while when we get some, but our animals don't usually eat it, when they have green hay in front of them, but maybe your cows are just piggy eaters...lol But inerways I was just wundering;) so good video of the animals.

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feed hay as well as corn silage, I broke a bunch of hay so I grew more corn, next spring I will be planting more hay.

      I wouldn't mind a side by side, but I summer cows on pastures you could never drive one, and it is hard to rope a bull with a side by side.
