FEEDING COWS IN THE WINTER

This video explains what we are feeding our cows right now. Because it is winter, they can't graze out in the grass pastures because of all the snow. During the summer, we meal prep by growing grass, alfalfa, and corn silage to feed throughout the winter. Everything we feed was grown on our farm. We start by loading 8 scoops of corn silage in to the feed wagon. Each scoop is roughly 400 lbs. Next, we load 2-3 scoops of corn screenings. The feed wagon mixes it all up and then unloads it in to the cow's feed bunks. After that, we grind up two large alfalfa round bales. As the cows begin to calve, we will increase the quality of the hay we feed. By grinding the bales up, there is virtually no waste compared to when we feed the bale in a round bale feeder. Each season brings new feeding rations!
