- Fix your sending unit. Is your fuel gauge showing overfull, or is it moving around a lot, or not correct? Here is a fix for the problem, that I came up with. A bad exterior ground, or the Corroded internal terminal, and/or a weak contact, is the most common issue that I have found.
Great video Peter! I wasn't as fortunate with Scooty and my '85. My rheostat was disintegrated inside so I actually purchased new 90 ohm rheostats from different GM cars and cut the float arm to match the dimensions of the Chevette float arm. I just tacked them back together and both work great for many years. You're right though in checking the ground and the plug-in at the rear of the tank, ALWAYS have problems with those two for the 45 years I've been wrenching on and driving Chevettes. Great information in this video for those that are new to these cars!
Thanks Peter, I followed your instructions a few months ago,, problem as you stated the Top Connection, cleaned, connection and press nut, soldered back connection, problem solved Thank You
Thanks I've had the same issue on a 76 HJ holden , looks to be the same sender, now it works great.
Thanks man! I got my '76 about 2 month ago and at least twice a week I run out of gas lol
Than you. Love the videos.
Can you point me in the right direction to a new fuel sending unit just like the one in this video please? I can't seem to locate it anywhere.
Thanks in advance for any information you can provide me.
Same i can't find one either!
I wonder if it would be possible and/or worthwhile to run a die down the inside of the bulkhead fitting and then use a regular nut instead of trying to flatten and reuse the pressed nut
