Chevettes of the Canadian North
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 ก.ค. 2006
I have collected a mass of 1976-1987 Chevette, and Acadian cars over the past 20 years. Gas, and diesel combinations alike. It has been a passion of mine to repair, modify, and add the GM options that were available to the Chevette Acadian line. Mechanical, and electrical problem solving. Have collected, and stored some low mileage cars over the years. The Chevette is still a fun daily driver for myself.
Vega wheels get adapted to Chevette Hubs. problems, and solutions
Got a set of VEGA wheels 4 X 4 (101.6MM) hub pattern. Chevette is 4 X 100MM. Some of the issues i have encountered. Doing this correctly, and safely. This set of wheels had the center rests pounded out,. due to improper mounting, with no centric ring on the chevette hub. Also a look a wobble nuts, and what they do.

5:40 DENON stereo cassette. Wow.
I’d love this car if there were no other cars on the road
How did the Audi Q8 in 9:52 get here?
Isuzu diesel! Awesome
Holy shit it started!!!! 😮
Looks like my 79
Hey man, I'm just gonna say it. A few months back, I bought my chevette, and you have been a huge help, but I don't know where I could find the passenger side front door glass on a 1981 4-door
What are final torque on both rod and main
And I see some comfort features! A/C, tilt steering wheel and a Denon Deck!😀
lol 😂
Amazing! I'd love to have one for the fuel economy and life longevity!
Thanks I've had the same issue on a 76 HJ holden , looks to be the same sender, now it works great.
Those Isuzu engines and transmission are pretty good!👍
Poor Man’s W123 200D
Junk.
I had a 1982 4 door you have to hold the throttle to the floor when you do a cold start. You let it up when you have a big black cloudLOL.
Thanks Peter! A 1980 followed me home the other day... Came looking and found the right info I was after! Think I have an 84 with a good bushing in the parts pile. 🇨🇦
The entire car might fall apart to a pile of rust and plastic if you try that again.
I would love to find a diesel I have a gas chevette and it’s the toughest thing I’ve ever owned they can definitely go multiple trips to hell and back and still keep going strong
Can you point me in the right direction to a new fuel sending unit just like the one in this video please? I can't seem to locate it anywhere. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide me.
Same i can't find one either!
Ah yes, jump starting with a diesel. A small jumper wire across the fast idle temp switch helped mine boost stuff easier. Good job.
Are the two door models more desirable than the four door?~ I much prefer the four door models myself, but I guess the two door models look a little spiffier~
It's funny you said that I would find other problems perhaps if I watched the videos, and the first video I watched, boom~ My top lever isn't functioning~ I will have to take it off in the morning and check to see what the problem is~ It's for an '86, so perhaps the cable just popped off of the straight metal piece~ I will let you know on Facebook~ - D.S. from Bristol~
😀😀😀😀😀

So is it the Chevy Chevette, Or the Chevy Monza that is the absolute worse stinker of a car GM ever built? I always thought riding in a Chevette felt like riding in a coffin. But I owned an '80 Monza, and it went faster. But in a more terrifying way. At least when it ran. lol
They found that many Chevettes still running? wow
my wife n i bought a brand new 1980 diesel chevette,great car!
I can't find brand new 1980 chevettes anywhere these days 😭

Great video Peter! I wasn't as fortunate with Scooty and my '85. My rheostat was disintegrated inside so I actually purchased new 90 ohm rheostats from different GM cars and cut the float arm to match the dimensions of the Chevette float arm. I just tacked them back together and both work great for many years. You're right though in checking the ground and the plug-in at the rear of the tank, ALWAYS have problems with those two for the 45 years I've been wrenching on and driving Chevettes. Great information in this video for those that are new to these cars!
What is the copper coating he's putting under the hood? I've never heard of that.
I need to fix mine, hardly any heat coming through in the winter months, lol
You need a Tesla for that engine!
I’d like to buy one today.
2:42 what kind of motor is this?
: )
I need the all assembly where i can find one.
That is a parts car.
"loaded Chevette" made me think of the expression "jumbo shrimp". This is about as loaded as they got, though, except for AC which wouldn't be of much importance in Canada. These 4 door models could even fit adults in the rear.
It's nice to have a optional cluster but that clock was a waste. They should have a temp gauge instead of a clock. It would have made more sense to have a temp gauge than that ammeter, they are nice but not needed. A temp gauge tells you more. If it only has an idiot light for temp then it's already burned up by the time that glows. I don't know why they didn't do the optional clusters more. That one you have is the only one I've ever seen. I always wanted one of those chevettes to drive as the daily because they were cheap on gas.
Nice to see a fully "loaded" Chevette. My 1st car was a 1987 Pontiac Acadian which I bought brand new. It was a 2 door 2 tone grey automatic. It had the dual sport mirrors, am/fm stereo radio with rear speakers but the rarest option of all - rear security cargo cover. It was like a roller blind that went over the hatchback area. I rarely used it.
(Psst! You tube doesn't like music) just sayin!
Is that just a diesel or is it a turbo diesel? Whats the horsepower and torque on it ? If it doesn't have a turbo on it how complicated would it be to turbo it ?
Love it ppl sud do this in usa
Truly an elite Chevette
Great parts car!!
I remember a lady bought one that was 4 door and fully loaded.....even then it was kinda weird to see. St George, New Brunswick
Vaga and shoovetts all gone in wa state JW SHOP TIME JEEP AND WOOD CHANNEL
Somewhere, in Edmonton, is my 1978/79 brown 4 door, automatic Chevy Chevette, an great little car . I bought it as a winter beater for $400 dollars in 2000 with 167K miles on it. It was a one family/ 2 owner car, and needed brakes all around. $65 dollars and 4 1/2 hours and it had new brakes and a tune up (plugs etc.) I put 65 K more miles on it before it went tits to the wind just outside Stony Plain in 2003. At the time it died it had 4 brand new winter tires on it and 5 8 month old a seasons on rims to go with it. A guy from some wrecking company saw it at my buddies shop and offered me $650 bucks for it, when I told him I had the extra wheels/tires he uped his offer by $100 bucks...and the last I saw of that little car was in 2007 ,still sitting on stands in the guys wrecking yard, it may even have been that Eskimo Parts and Salvage that you were at, I'm old and can't remember....but I do remember that that was a damn fun little beast.
The best car I ever owned was a 1983 Chevette Scooter manual. Bought it sight unseen and when I went to get it the ball joint went and the wheel fell over. Fixed the ball joints, used it for a field car for a year and then drove it for 8 years and almost 100k miles. Used to take it down the rail road tracks with 3 other people doing 60. Used to pull up to red lights, give the driver next to me the finger and then dump the clutch and lose em going around turns on 2 wheels. I beat the snot out of that car cause it only cost me 300$ and I said I was gonna drive it till it died. I used to put it in 2nd gear and floor it hoping to blow the engine. Never did. In fact it was still running when I sold it. Passenger door was screwed shut, drivers door window gone, drivers door exterior handle broken and a nice dent in the front bumper. All I did to that car in 8 years was tires and brakes! That was it. And 1 clutch at the beginning. I had so much fun in that car. I miss that little thing. Raced a buddy who had an old LeMans with a big motor 10 miles on the thruway back to his house and beat him by 5 minutes because I could slip in and out of places where his car was too big to go.
All those Chevettes before the turn of the century were pure magic!
Sounds as if you were going to drive it til it died, or you did. Good thing it went first.
My first car was a 2 door chevette love you're saving them too many turned into race cars down here they're hard to find
Hey man. awesome to see someone from my neck of the woods!!! I used to live in the Edmonton area. I'm a couple hours east of Edmonton now. But man I wish I could start to do what you do!!! Honestly driving around Edmonton there are so many good finds I would love to start knocking on some doors
