    Thanks for the video, A lot of people say that I'm a silly old fool to continue riding, I have been riding a Giant TCR Pro SL0 and loving it but last week I thought it was time to try an Aero, so at the age of 75 years I went and bought myself a Cervelo S5 VWD with top specs. When I can't any longer spend the day in the saddle it's going on my lounge room wall. Long live Aero.

    Nearly 52 here; never had an aero bike, and my "best bike" is a 2009 model with 105. Tool old for aero? Am I too old for Ultegra or Di2? Nah, I want my next bike to be aero with Di2 (or eTap I guess). I even want a power meter, despite never having had one before. Never too old to want to get the most out of yourself or your cycling!

    Great video. I think riding fast for as many years as we can is a great feeling. I think it helps stave off old age, which is more a condition of body capability and mindset than our birth date. I intend on getting an Aeroad and doing everything from hot rodding short rides around the neighborhood to long century rides. Coming from an older Tarmac which is a size too small it will probably be more comfortable.
    I think the increased pressure put on the hands can for some people be more comfortable as well as opposed to an upright position that rests all our weight on the saddle.

      @divum  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Daryl for your comment. I agree with your sentiment about age...I love my AEROAD. I road a 200km Audax on it last month and not a problem!. For me, its fast, comfortable and feels great.

    Nice discussion and review. Thank you.
    I'm 50 and have only been cycling for 2 years. My 1st bike is an Endurance bike which has been great. I'd love a Canyon Aeroad for my next bike. I don't need to go faster, but I just LOVE the look of it.
    I spend a lot of time in the drops on my current bike and am comfortable, but have no idea how I'd be on an aero bike.
    I guess we're all individuals, regardless of age and will each have to answer the comfort/flexibility question for ourselves.

    At 64 i was wondering if my new Canyon (i have an Endurace) should be an Aeroad i love the look of it (especially in blue)but hesitated due to the fact you can't test ride them.i'm riding in mostly flat areas and average 1:30 hours i think you have convinced me to try a Aero bike great video. As for being to old it's all in the head don't let anyone tell you you are to old to do anything you want or that you are to old to that or that.

    I came across this oldie today and wonder if you still use it? I find it increasingly difficult to use road bikes with aggressive set-ups because of back issues which would make having an aero bike a waste of time. However, I love the look of yours and would also be happy to have one just to look at it!!

    I started commuting to work at 40. Since then I've lost weight and saved thousands in parking. I initially rode a Trek mountain bike which was slow but nice and comfortable, but I wasn't overly impressed at being overtaken each day. I kept that bike for the odd school run but upgraded to a lightish carbon flat handle bar road bike a couple of year later which I love to bits. I think it's fast, gives a great ride position, and riding to work is a joy. I'm 45 on 1 April and I've been looing at proper road bikes and Canyon ones seem to offer great value. A few days ago I ordered an Aeroad CF SL 8.0 from their outlet site. I'm certain I wont do it justice but I'm looking forward to giving it a crack, shaving some time off the commute, overtaking lazy people on their eBikes, and aiding my wellbeing. Loved the video DIVUM!

    Would be interesting to measure up differences in watts saved between body position, aero helmet, tight jersey and aero bike / deep wheels, then do a bit of a calculation for w/$ ... Of course an aero bike will be faster all else equal, but is it really the first thing I should focus on, or should I work on my position on the bike first and take off that flappy jacket?

      @@divum it would be interesting to see the real world difference between the thoroughbred lightweight/aero bikes compared to the more mixed versions that seem to be more popular. A lot of lightweight bikes now are being created with integrated cockpits and larger rim sizes among other bits so maybe aero is the way to go. Unfortunately years of neglect to any kind of mobility is now taking its toll

    I'm a recreational "athlete" and I'm fast and I ride a lot. ...but I am just average. I am young and I can ride in an aero position for 2 - 3 hours, but after watching this video I think the Ultimate is the better choice for me.

    • @chrisgilligan4968
      @chrisgilligan4968 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're young, fast and flexible and the aero position doesn't bother you....but you think you should buy an all 'rounder? Just checked and similarly equipped versions of both bikes for weight and you're talking about 200g for a complete build. This is a no brainer - the Aeroad will be faster on every single course you do....you don't even have to set it up aggresively - use the same position as you would for the Ultimate - it will still be faster and more aero and just as comfortable. I have a Cannondale SystemSix and I can ride that bike for hours....all of them are using either 25's or 28's depending on what the wheels are optimized for aerodynamically.
      Unless you like the aesthetic of the Ultimate better than the Aeroad....then that's a personal choice. But if you are thinking of racing, the Aeroad will be faster in all circumstances.

      Thanks Anja for your support and comment. I am just under 6' 4" or 1.91 m tall. My CANYON Aeroroad is XL and compares to a very similar geometry on my other bikes of 58" frame. Rather strangely, my CANYON Exceed mountain bike is a L but has almost the same profile as the Aeroroad (in overall silhouette).

    I bought an Ultimate because I was unsure about my flexibility on an Aeroad. Prior I had a Giant Defy which I liked but it never gave me the feeling of fast, even if I'm slow(er) at 56 yo. After having raced when I was younger, albeit a pretty slow racer, I found it difficult to not ride a fast bike. I can't get the idea that I should ride a softer bike for older riders, if I want to feel old I will ride a 20kg Japanese old mama's bike; but I refuse, I want to feel the speed, even if I'm slow. I am even toying with getting an Aeroad or similar, but hmmmm the cost.

      The Ultimate is also a great fast bike with an aggressive geometry. No slouch there! I've been considering both Ultimate and Aeroad for my next bike. They have very similar geometry so can't go wrong either way. The Ultimate however is probably going to get an update in the near future and the Aeroad already had one, so leaning Aeroad.

Love to do everything fast. Well by fall hope to be on a Madone. Will I beat a great 30 year old? No but it doesn't matter I'll still try to. I will want to beat anyone anywhere near my age. I'll also be pushing my self. Plus I'll love to look at it all the time. So far just a tad shy of 30 mph spring on my DOMANE flat road no wind. That's wearing my baggy Carhartt work pants. I can only answer with the limited knowledge I have about the Cannondale. In my opinion the Canyon is not greatly more aggressive. You can set it up to make it more or less aggressive. The geometry is significantly different in my opinion. First the carbon is ultra stiff and the reach is longer, so you will find it lighter and twitching to handle, but at speed, the Canyon Aeroad is brilliant. To fully benefit you must be comfortable on the drops. I hope this helps a little 👍🏼🚴🏼‍♂️
