    Back in 1967, when I was 10 years old, I went to Kongsberg with my parents in a homebuilt VW camper van. We stayed at exactly the same place outside Kongsberg as you did. This place was the home for danish children with asthma. They were sent to Norway for 4 months at Kongsberg. It served as a home for asthmatic children from 1950 to 1979. My brother was there twice, in 1965 and 1967. The children and locals called the place you slept for "the plain" (Sletten). Since then my brother and I have visited the place several times. The last time was in August 2022, when we had a nice walk around the area and went further up to Jonsknuten at the top of the mountain.

    • @bjrnjensen7074
      @bjrnjensen7074 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed. Whenever I buy a hotdog, I avoid the thin wiener sausages that you had, as they aren`t that tasty, really. I would rather go to a 7/11 or a Narvesen kiosk, and buy some of the larger sausages, they have these campaigns rather frequently, meaning that you can get one of those large chili (or onion) wurst for 25 NOK, instead of 45ish (including bread), which is the normal price. Also, the ones you bought were probably more expensive, due to the fact that you bought them in this museum. Museums in general have expensive food (even for Norway), next time go to a local kiosk instead. (or bring your own food-saves you LOTS of money.)

    Great episode! Glad to see some of Oslo... it's one of my most favorite cities to visit. I hope on my next trip to Norway, I can get out and see more of the countryside. If you do get back to Oslo, I love the sculpture park, the Norwegian Resistance museum (in the fortress), and going over to Hovedøya and just wandering around. I never made it to the ship museum because it always seemed so far away (I walk everywhere and take transit)... and now I see there is that ferry... I don't know why I never thought of that!

    Am so happy you went to the Silver Mines in Kongsberg, My distant Gt Grandfather Kong Christian IV 1577-1648 opened the original mines, and when he came to name the Town Kongsberg he pointed the wrong way, because he was somewhat intoxicated and thus the town was built lower down in the valley next to the Numedalslågenn river.I have close family living there to this day. Great muesum history. Really interesting about Amunsun , I was up in Tromso for the 100 year anniversary, the prince of Norway and his wife came. I actually was standing beside Amunsuns great neice, had photos etc. then when I was awaiting the plane next day I saw a newspaper for sale in Norwegian, ( never understood it but pictures tell stories) there I was on the front page amongst the crowd. The only bright blue jacket amongst dark clothes. Great experience. Love you videos 💜💜🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

    The fact those people made that perilous trip to the pole suggests that it's just human nature. Although the British way of dragging grand piano weights with them proved a mistake.

      @@TheHarrip I don't think that was their mistake.
      The problem was trying to brute force it instead of learning from natives in this kind of environment.
      The Norwegian explorers used the experiences of the Inuits in Greenland (under Denmark) and the Sami people in Norway to inform their decisions and to help them aquire the skills they needed.
      Relying on dogs instead of horses and machines for instance.
      Wolves (that dogs decend from) are native to much more northern climates then horses are, and while the south pole is extreme even for dogs it's less so then for horses.
      The idea of having food stores in place was probably a good precaution.
      But expecting to find all of them wasn't realistic, and they should have ensured that they overprovisioned both food pr store, carrying capacity and food carried between each store, having enough left for multiple stores not being found in bad weather and for pack animals dying.
      Dead pack animals can also function as backup rations in a pinch.
      So yeah, I think that the ideas behind his plan was sound, even if the execution wasn't.

Fredriksten is quite beautiful, sitting atop the mountain overlooking the city. Got a lot of important history to Norwegians as well.

    I have to laugh about the hot dog in a "wrap". It is supposed to be served cold like this and is called lompe in Norwegian. In general as i see it is a more inexpensive option bread and even though I would say bread is superior, there is sometimes I actually crave for these. The hot dog itself looked like a cheapest kind of standard supermarket sausage like these places often sell, so would not blame you for not liking it at all.

      @@LifeistooshortCK Norwegian roadside inns are nothing to brag about either. It is the same, boring food almost everywhere, rarely traditional Norwegian food. The trick is to stop where the trailer drivers stop, they have the best food. There is nothing wrong with Norwegian ingredients, so I am happy to pay a little more if it means I get something other than burgers and schnitzels.
      Wieners must be heated in broth to preserve their flavor, and you can have the dry lomper for me. I always choose bread instead of them.
