    To anyone reading this - if you are doing Norway in a Nutshell, please spend at least 2 nights in Flåm. Its beauty is unrivaled, and there’s so much to do - ziplining, riding a bicycle, exploring the fjord, hiking, etc…just don’t go straight to Bergen, you would miss out on seeing so much beauty.

      @melle4390 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But what would you do there? Thre's the hotel, the (excellent) brewery, an overpiced supermarket, even for Norwegians, and the views. Maybe go to the Viking Village in Gudvangen? The views are great but Flåm as a town is way, way overrated.

    • @dcairol
      @dcairol 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@melle4390 the town in itself is small…but there’s so MUCH to do outdoors as I stated above: riding a bike from Myrdal, hiking, there’s the zipline, exploring the fjord by boat, kayaking on the fjord (which I didn’t do), going to Stegastein viewpoint…I did all of that in 2 days and feel like I could have easily stayed at least 1 more night.

    Hi Pål - I just would like to share that I visited Flåm 2 weeks ago and not only was your video of great help, but the whole Flåm experience has been one of the most beautiful things that has happened to me while traveling.
    I stayed there for 2 nights and can’t recommend it enough! I don’t understand why Flåm is not in everyone’s destination list, as to me, it surpasses in beauty so many other European landmarks…to anyone reading this - please stay at least 2 nights in Flåm and plan a bicycle ride, a Fjord safari, a visit to Stegastein, a zipline, etc…there’s so much to do!
    Thanks Pål and please keep promoting your beautiful country! It’s simply unmatched.

    I'm German and I took a train from Steinkjer to Trondheim in July. It was so awesome, especially compared to the experience of travelling by train in Germany. The vending machines in the train were such a pleasant surprise. It was clean, a smooth ride - and of course you get the incredible views! :)

    • @norwaywithpal
      @norwaywithpal  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice! I've been on the Nordlands Line a few times, always very enjoyable. I thought you had good trains in Germany though... at least that's what I seem to remember from my train trips in Europe 20 years ago :)

    • @LukasKlein
      @LukasKlein 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@norwaywithpal A LOT has changed since then. The train company used to be owned by the state, now it's private. To put it very shortly, they cut costs by removing rails for example which plays a big role in the fact that nowadays, 70% of long distance trains are delayed, because trains have to constantly wait to overtake. On top of this, the Deutsche Bahn is making 1,2 billion Euros loss each year, while the top managers pay themselves millions in bonuses.

      I really enjoyed this and your other videos! My parents and I are considering the route from Bergen to Oslo in August. I am curious on your thoughts on the ferry from Bergen to Flam. I understand it's not a cruise, but are the sights as or more interesting? Or is the train, bus, cruise better?

    • @norwaywithpal
      @norwaywithpal  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The train bus cruise is more scenic, since you'll go through the Nærøyfjord. But the Bergen to Flåm can also be nice, and easier to just stay on one ferry not having to do any transfers @@LindseyDorneman

    During winter, the boattrip on Nærøyfjord can sometimes not be possible due to ice. But there are alternatives like a shorter boat trip and roadtransport so the NIN journey can be completed. Just something to take into account when traveling during wintertime.

    • @norwaywithpal

      @@norwaywithpal Not often, but at least the last two winter seasons. This year it was a period in late winter, were the ice was too thick. The carbon hull of the vessels doesn't like it :)
      I believe the solution was a boat trip to the point the ice starts and then back to Undredal for bus transport.The ice critical point is in Nærøyfjord in the Bakka area as it is quite narrow there.

    Hi Pal, I have read NIN do it yourself and I am going to do it this way. When I was looking in the summer, the train from Oslo to Flam arrived in Flam at 1:10 which is good. Now when I look it arrives after 2 pm. I wanted to book a tour called RibBoat Safari in Flam but the tour starts at 245 and one has to be at the dock by 2:25. Do you know or remember if the Oslo train (perhaps the 6:25 arriving at 1:10 as that was the time I wrote down) does arrive earlier into Flam in the summer months or was I dreaming lol? I will be traveling in mid September 2025 which is still considered summer I believe. Also can you confirm that the train tickets can only be booked 90 days out and is it the same for the ferry from Flam to Gudvagent? Do you know if they can be booked earlier and if so where? Thank you and have a good day

    • @norwaywithpal
      @norwaywithpal  ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there! If you choose the 6:25 train departure from Oslo, then you'll be in Flåm 13:04 (in the summer, and even September).
      The train tickets can be booked 60-90 days in advance. It varies. Ferry tickets can be booked earlier, but one should not book them until one has the train tickets, just in case.
      Btw. there are early bird rates at Fjord Tours now, so you can even save by buying the pre-packaged ticket: www.fjordtours.com/tourism/?tt=38907_12_419475_youtubecomment&r=%2Fen%2Fnorway%2Ftours%2Fnorway-in-a-nutshell

    Hey Pål. Love you channel and your videos are so helpful and informative. It's really evident all the hard work and planning you put in your work. Keep up the great work! Quick question. We're planning on doing this trip next week. Just thinking about the Leg 2: The fjord cruise from Flåm to Gudvangen where the last cruise leaves at 15:00. Considering the short days in winter and that it would get dark quite early, do you think we would still be able to see and experience the sights if we make this 15:00 cruise for 2 hours? Or would it get dark and we might not see everything and enjoy it as much? Would it be better to stay in Flam for a night and then do the cruise the following day? Many thanks and keep up the great work!

    Hi again! Your content has helped me so much 🙏🏾 and I have a couple of questions that perhaps you can help me with:
    Is the noon (12pm) train from Oslo to Myrdal/Flam (arriving at Flam at ~6pm) as scenic and beautiful as the 8am one, in the month of July? The 8am one is already sold out the day that I'm traveling to Flam, and I'm between the ~6am and the ~12pm one...I don't want to wake up too early to catch the 6am one. Also, I have no rush because I'm doing the second leg (Flam to Bergen) 2 days later.
    One more thing - the seats right next to the WC (Toilets), are they terrible? Will they block the view on the way to Myrdal? The only seats available on the 8am train are next to WC, thus asking.
    Thanks in advance!

      There is so much daylights in July that it does not make much difference if you leave at 6 or 12.

    Is it possible to do this trip with an interrail pass for one country in your opinion? Super nice video

      You can do the Oslo - Bergen journey with an interrail pass, but as far as I know not the Flåm Rail.

    Thank you for this detailed video. I have a question, we plan to go from Oslo to Bergen and then proceed to Copenhagen from there, which means we will have all our luggage with us (probably 25kgs of travel bags). Are these bags allowed on the small Flam Railway?

    Hi Pal,
    Your videos are beautiful.
    How to book Fjords cruise from flam? Should we book it in advance (in online)or after reaching there ?
    I am planning to visit in May month :)

      Thank you :)
      I would book it now, since it can sell out. There are two companies:
      www.norwaysbest.com/no/ting-a-gjore/fjorder/fjord-cruise-naeroyfjord/
      And
      en.lustrabaatane.no/
