You have dedicated your precious time in the Himalayas to show the world how beautiful life can be without owning a house or land. You remind us that what truly makes a home is family. While we often get caught up worrying about material possessions, your work inspires us to appreciate the simplicity and beauty of life. I also encourage you to explore my district, Sirmour, in Himachal Pradesh. Our Hatti community has a rich history as one of the largest kingdoms in the Himalayas, with roots linked to Jaipur. The Gujjar culture here mirrors that of the Bakarwals and Gaddis, who take their buffaloes to the higher Shivalik mountains during summer. Additionally, the Dodra Kwar area of Shimla, nearby, is another hidden gem worth showcasing.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I have been to Dodra Kwar in 2012 when i did the Rupin pass solo. Would love to go there again.

Thanks "India in Motion" for Videographing the Bakarwal Nomads of JammuKashmir for the larger Audience ... In JammuKashmir we have another beautiful Nomadic Community called "Gaddis" as you have mentioned in the documentary... These local indigenous communities add much beauty to the cultural landscape of the region.. In these fast changing times and due to depleting forests, urbanization and industrialization, their space is shrinking fast.. These communities should be supported to preserve their centuries old culture and traditions.... Thank you❤🌹🙏

Well said ... we need to find ways to preserve these traditions while still accounting for the aspirations of the people.

Bakarwals, especially, comes from a group of Gujjars and Awans who migrated to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) from the Hazara Division of Pakistan in the 20th century. In Himachal Pradesh, call him Gujjar. And, most of them live in the districts of Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra, and Una.
    .
Thanks, INDIA IN MOTION & Saravana Kumar for showing the Beautiful life journey of Bakarwals .... Love from हिमाचल प्रदेश ❤❤❤❤

My grandfather was also shepherd but he tried to give best education to his children. Now we are in city and preparing for competition exam. And my ambition is do something for my shephard people. Like australia Shepherd. How they're modern and leaving peacefully, need training, need education. It's should be a profession so everyone join happily. Like other countries hope

Bahut dhanyavaad for this splendid video documentary on the Bakarwals! Having lived 6 years in Kangra district of Himachal and having had contacts to Gaddis, it was great to learn more about commonalities in their nomadic sheep-herding ways of life. Incidentally, the name for the mountainside dwelling "kota" is similar to "kota" in Finnish meaning hut or teepee. Cordial greetings from the "Uttara kurus" Northland!

I had the opportunity to trek to Tarsar lake and interact with the nomads called bakarwals Or gurjars.
Their life style is so close to nature. even a tablet of paracetamol or a pair of socks is a precious gift for these simple community.
A kid in their hutments was sick with fever they brought her to our tent amidst the hailstorm. She had high temperature, I gave her PCM and antibiotic. her father came in the morning and thanked us that the kid and family slept comfortably.
I wish to go to those placed again.
The sky was so black at night that after 30 years I saw that sky is still full of stars but we do not appreciate them in cities due to light.

You are a one man documentary film maker! Kudos to you for a wonderful documentation of a way of life which a lot of us think is very romantic and charming but in fact involves a lot of hardship. What really struck me was the fact that now due to changes in the governmental set up the Bakkarwals are compelled to dump their precious commodity of fine wool from their sheep ...... I sincerely hope that someone in the local administration who has decision making capabilities can reverse this trend by making sure that a fair price is paid for the wool and that all their supply is bought. Thank you once again for producing such an informative and in depth video - I know it has taken months of hard work on your part to get this together. My best wishes are with you as always and do keep making this kind of content, as it is unique in the TH-cam universe!🙂
