How inquisitive of you to find a story not only only on Pashmina but also the personal lives of the people responsible for the industry.. It felt like a NatGeo documentary.
Thank you.. I always have conversations like this in these places. Usually I'am too shy to record people while talking but this time I felt comfortable and recorded the interaction.
You are an inspiration sir. Your backpacking across Ladakh with a purpose inspires me to not just make trekking or camping videos but to actually have a purpose. Not good with a camera but learning. Thank you for your stories.
What struggle man.. bone chilling cold, nature can turn devil anytime.. but they are so happy in their lifestyle.. hats off... Great content boss . We need more !!
Specially I like ur video editing, cinematography. Soo original and natural..no loud background score, music chosen with care for each videos , superb dialogue delivery. Absolute balance. Brings serenity and inner peace
Dear Saravana Sir . Here are faces I know by heart for I have seen them so many times in repeated viewings of your previous series on Amale and her beautiful family. Good to see that they're all doing well. Thank you for such a wonderful and personal look into these true hardy warriors of the Changthang 🗻
Impressed by your wonderful art of storytelling. The narration, the subtitles, the camerawork, the questions - all are up to the mark. Being a print journalist, you have inspired me to also embrace "documentary journalism". Thank you 'India In Motion'. All the best...
Love the way you are making us experience the world which we can imagine in dreams only..the adventure, the life, the nature ..cant be explained in word
Another winner! What a beautiful landscape!. I love the way you tell the nomads' stories and their hadrship to survive. It is a very inspiring story. Thank you for sharing with all of us.
Nice story. Government should support this industry by giving betterment to local to their basic needs. It is really a matter of research to how more pashmina can be produced.
The real content. I have been watching your videos for almost three years now..But why only Ladakh But there are other parts of the world also, Sir. If u can come to Kashmir, you will get A class content...You can document life of gujjars, bakerwals and other nomadic people
I am also here to express nothing but my gratitude and sincere appreciation for your story telling and og cinema you produce. I hope that you are really happy on the path you are taking .
Watching those nomads life always fascinate me & fill my heart with joy & peace Thank you so much for sharing such content More respect from Pakistan ❤
Hi there from Piyush ...quality content as always ..appreciate the pain you've to endure to come up with such videos in the bone chilling Himalayan cold
What a wonderful vlog as usual Saravana Ji. I really hope and pray that the Younger Generation of Changpas Understand the VALUE OF THIS WONDERFUL CULTURE & CARRY ON THE SAME IN FUTURE AS WELL.
Glad you enjoyed the video Arun. As for the younger generation, I feel that this work will mostly be outsourced when current generation of nomads retire to the cities.
It's an absolute delight to watch your efforts. We watch your videos regularly during our dinner time and just feel the awe of our beautiful country and how immensely you bring it to us.
All landscapes tend to look the same after a while and do not have that 'wow' factor anymore. So it is these stories that keep me interested and going back to such places.
As a documentary, this is beautiful! However, I feel really sad to see the animals suffering in the process.. u can see how some of them jump to understand that they are feeling pain, but the collectors are not at all sympathetic to it
I cannot watch it! My God! They don't care. They have seen their elders do it , so they have learnt the "art" , however the people need to be taught empathy as well! I can't go there . But, it needs to begin! They need education on empathy and other such things which will make them grow as human beings and also alleviate some of the suffering that animals have to go through.
Wo apna kaam kar rahe hain . Kare. Magar , kisi ke pain pe MUSKURATE HAIN MATLAB , they need to be taught to be gentle. How can they smile through the process while being rough to other beings?
being a changpa nomad, i want to say that no can be more empathetic to animals then them, you have no idea about what they go through raising them. you try raising at most 50 and then think about how they are raising all those 500 to 600 goats and sheep
Very knowledgable video brother! This clears all the doubts on Pashmina and highlights the challenges of Changpas. Thanks for the ground work! Change the name from India in Motion to Truely Himalayas :)
That's a nice name but again just restricted to one place. In the future I want to explore places like Central Asia as well. So looking for a more appropriate name.
Back in early 2000s only documentary about life in ladakh were recorded with first gen cameras and people living were using goat gutt to preserve things and all living under one tent and now it is on verge of extinction..
Amazing people..tough as nails. .beautiful goats..and look like they don't like their hair pulled...hope they get extra feed after their combing. I have a feeling though..that they are very well cared for as they are what keeps life livable where they are at.
Fascinating and gorgeous imagery, as always. I wonder about the economic/ecologic balance: the herders get government support to have these flocks of pashmina goats. But the land is scarcely vegetated (I'm judging this only on the basis of your imagery of course) and they get subsidized with tents and other benefits by the government, who buys the pashmina. Would the land support this many goats without the additional food provided by the government? In other words, while this is a unique culture, is it actually sustainable?
Sorry it was not very clear in the video.. the government does not provide grass to sustain the animals all year around. They provide it as an additional source of nutrition for the weaker animals and for use during emergencies, like when there is a lot of snowfall or drought. The Changpas depend on the land for the sustenance of their animals.
Absolute gem of a story, yes it is a difficult choice; the path of the ancestors and the dreams of the future. Change is inevitable, hopefully, there will be some iconoclasts who shall soldier on 👍
The goats don't seem too happy with this arrangement. I've seen a few videos of how Chinese farmers harvest angora wool from Angora rabbits. It's brutal. They are spreadeagled with their four limbs tied to four corners. Then they are plucked raw.
basically the original pashmina shawl madeup by the wool of wild antelop founds in ladakh&tibet's high altitude plateaus...which is most expnsive as worth...

Kudos. Keep up the good work man!

This is wonderful..
I wish I could record such conversations..
Nice work sir 🎉.. Got to learn lots of new things, perspectives from this ❤
very nice! thanks for sharing. I hope that the trade remains alive. Pashmina remains unmatched in wool quality.
As a documentary, this is beautiful! However, I feel really sad to see the animals suffering in the process.. u can see how some of them jump to understand that they are feeling pain, but the collectors are not at all sympathetic to it
Finally! Someone recognizing the pain these goats go through from the rough treatment of the combing..
I cannot watch it! My God! They don't care. They have seen their elders do it , so they have learnt the "art" , however the people need to be taught empathy as well! I can't go there . thankfully someone said it. I'm all the people seem to ignore it. The way the are Combed is just cruel. I couldn't watch it😢

I learned something new today. Except for the cold weather, I’d rather live in the rural area combing the goats than drive taxis in the city.
beautifully created video
Now this is what we call content
Informative. Thank you.
Goats feel pain whn hairs are pulled?
Awesome as usual
Absolute gem of a story, yes it is a difficult choice; the path of the ancestors and the dreams of the future. Change is inevitable, hopefully, there will be some iconoclasts who shall soldier on 👍
they will just hire outside labour to continue this practice. already happening now in small parts
