  • Discover in 4K UHD the fate of a local hero, a determined monk that fight alone for the construction of a new road to ensure the survival of its people.
Zanskar is an ancient realm in the heart of the Himalayas. In this isolated enclave, the highest populated valley in the world, 12 000 Zanskaris live in total autarky. To put an end to this isolation, the Indian government has launched one of its most spectacular construction sites. Hanging on the cliff face, following the meanders of the Zanskar River, the road is progressing very slowly.
Yet Zanskar is getting ready to open its doors to the world and may undergo some major upheavals much earlier than planned!
Because one man alone, has also decided to built a road. This man is neither an engineer, nor a millionaire, and even less a visionary! His name is Tsultrim Chonjor, he’s 78 years old and he’s a Buddhist monk! Everyone admires Tsultrim’s perseverance, but will he manage to open the road to Kargyak, the very first village to the south of Zanskar?

Govt of India has recognized his dedication and perseverance of hard work, for which he has been awarded by conferred one of prestigious award Padma shree. The most interesting facts that he Ultimately connected us with Manali and raised momentum in speed up pace of progress work thereby given new road for zanskar. He is real hero of Zanskar. Border Road Organization is doing incredible work at NPD road, we soon connecting to leh along with zanskar river at confluence of indus river at Nimmu vis a vis distance between leh -zanskar and Manali will be decreased. Who would have thought that an old frail monk, living in a remote monastery, on top of the mountains, would have such a broad view of the world around him. To serve his people, he sold his only possession, a small piece of land, to buy a machine that would connect this tiny village to the rest of the world. While others wait for the government to bring development to their village, this lone monk actually went ahead on his own and made is a reality already. While monks seek solitude and peace to connect with the Buddha, this lone monk has brought the blessings of Buddha directly to the people through one bold act. Though the villagers rightly despair that modernity would destroy their lifestyle, yet it is the need of the hour as their life is threatened from not just the hostile and serene nature, but the enemy just across the border. But this monk has already shown the enlightenment to the people he shares this world with. And if that is not a way to nirvana, then what is? It amazes me that in this world of jealousy, competition, aggression and deceit, one still cares for the people around him. This makes our world, just a tad bit happier.

This is a touching, heart warming story. One detraction to this story was the interaction between this most dedicated monk and the religious leader he attempted to speak with, starting after 6:49. I hope a lot was lost in translation, because this leader seemed quite pompous. Here's someone, now 78, who spent his LIFE as a monk, had spent years building a road, a new part of which the leader rode on the prior year, yet the leader barely commented on the road, and did not even remember the monk's name. One could hope for some sense of sharing of a common religion, ideology and dedication. But there was none. The leader and his entourage of 300+, all on modern mountain bikes with front suspensions, just passed on by.

"just a single man and his willpower" ... and inheritance of land, modern piece of technology as well as the help of 2 young man.
It's an impressive accomplishment, but nothing truly big is ever done on your own.

That monk is wrong when he says he feels sorry towards the cyclist, has only come to see something new and have some fun....That cyclist probably learnt more in that journey than most academics or religionists learn in a lifetime!

Climate cultists, people who obsess over race, gender cultists, dogmatic atheists, leftists in general. Yes, these religionists have much to learn.

I really appreciate what this monk did. But the fact that a private individual had to sell his land to fund the opening of a road is indicative of the impotence and ineptitude of the government.
