Depends what you're indending to do with it. If you're going to do alot of casting then I would personally go with the Lexa 400hd

If your gonna get a squall go with the Daiwa Seagate there 150 but if you want something better go with the torium
I need a new reel this size to surf fish for sharks. I'm trying to decide between this and the Penn Fathom 40. How do the internals and general build quality compare between the two? Also the castability?
+Jbay2608 The Torium is the better reel. I am assuming you are comparing it to the fathom lever drag. The Fathom will cast better, but the toium is better overall.
+jandhtackle No, the Fathom star drag. We generally either cast baits here or use a non return slide, the lever drag is too expensive for that and generally star drags are better to cast with.

+Jbay2608 I assume Jbay stands for Jeffreys bay?? I agree with going for the Torium instead. With current pricing (in SA) it is not much more expensive than the Fathom. I would not use a Fathom for targeting sharks. Phenomenal casting reel but that spool is way thin and bends for nothing. Use it for edibles instead. If this new Torium is anywhere near as good as the previous model it will be a tank! Pitty they don't make it in a 50. Tight lines

try the smaller size toriums for jigging. high ratio reel wind is perfect and the weight is low.

Not sure the drag is high enough lvl for initial pulls.
Are you just showing a reel out of the Display Case or did you Actually use IT? Put your THUMB on the spool and TRY to reel it. the DRAG slips and NO HELP FROM SHIMANO!!! They are CRAP
