*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*
Perfect for inshore/ near shore island fishing. Decent for bft but I recommend spooling full with braid for maximum line capacity or getting the torium 20 or 30 for more line capacity for bft if your gunna stick with a stardrag. Got spooled with the 16 on a 70# bft offshore
The torium could handle a 60 to 80lbs bft but it wouldnt be my first choice. Who's to say theres only 80lb bluefin around. What happens if you hook into a monster 200lb fish? Either way a lever drag 2 speed reel is going to work out much better while fishing bigger tuna. Look into something like the penn 40N for starters.
This reel is intended to be very versatile. As far as targeting large bluefin, yes. You're better off using a 2 speed set up. That's why they have two versions of this reel, the HGA and PGA. PGA is for bottom jigging and fishing. HGA is for top water jigging and fishing.
Yes but I got the clamp kit adapter. It will sit comfortably for 7-8ft poles. I use mine on a 90J stick and the adapter was needed since the clamp wasn't able to sit the reel a bit lower.
You use thick mono because of sharp fish teeth, rocks and branches and also braid has no stretch so when you're vertical speed jigging or slow jigging you will get way to much movement in the bait causing the line to tangle.
which reel reel would you prefer this one or the avet?, im fishing for stripers and blues, live lineing mackerel, trolling tubes, an casting plugs here an there
Hey josh, mi looking for a reel for surface iron casting, for yellowtail in San Diego, im thinking about the torium 20hg or the 16hg, which would you recomend?
I was thinking the trevala S, but i dont know if im going to be able to cast the iron that are about 3 oz, or do live bait fishing, becarse ive never used them, water do you think?

Is the large line capacity from regular PowerPro or the maxquatro
Is this reel really all aluminum? I have one but the body looks like its not aluminum
Do you think it could handle from 60-80 pound bluefin
joshua parga people have gotten 150 lb bluefin on the Trinidad 20 so 60-80 is doable with the torium 16 I think

Would you consider this reel to be more capable as far and bigger fish are concerned then a lexa 400 winn?
How much braid can it hold for 50 LB or 65 LB
Is there any usual drag complain?
No but its a star drag 🤢
Would you take this over the penn fathom LD2 25N?
They are very different. You're trying to compare a star drag reel to a lever drag 2-speed. I would take the 2-speed. It's much more versatile.
Does this have an all aluminum frame? Can't find the frame material on shimano website
This Torium made from Japan?
that reel for slow pitch jigging good or not ?
Yes.
Would the torium20hga pair up good with a lamiglas tfx 7030ct rod?
Yes.
Which would be a better setup for a Lamiglas TFX 7030CT, an Accurate Tern 300x or a Torium20 HGA? I will be using it for Tog's and Flukes.
Hi Josh,do you think a gear ratio 6.2:1 like this reel is good for jigging or it's really too fast ?
It depends what type of jigging you are doing, but the torium is a popular jigging reel for high speed applications..
Hi josh, i have a questio. Whats the difference between the torium 16Hg and the torium 16HGA?
does it come with rod clamp ?
Yes.
How's the freespool on this reel? Is it good for flylining lighter live baits
TheJmteee Good. They cast well.
does this come with clamp?
Yes
Yes but I got the clamp kit adapter. It will sit comfortably for 7-8ft poles. I use mine on a 90J stick and the adapter was needed since the clamp wasn't able to sit the reel a bit lower.
what rod would go really good with this reel. I just purchased one today .
What are you fishing for?
+jandhtackle yellowtails Catalina island . also can these reel hold up catching tuna down in san Diego ?
Yup. What's your budget for the rod?
+jandhtackle 250 the most
Shimano Terez MH. Or you could just get a Trevala for half the price.
What's the point of having 65 pound test braid when max drag is 24 pounds
To cut the seaweed if you get wrapped up fishing kelp patties.
@@timothymorales6048 you have a point .I don't fish braid .so would not know. Fishing club I am in can't use braid

@@anton2417 there is no glory or trophy using 65 pound test when you should be using 20 pound test
Any idea if they're going to be making a 12 or 14 size?
Kevin Kim The 14 will come out next year. Not sure about a 12.
oh man next year?
Kevin Kim Yes.
@@jandhtackle dam I really wanted a 12
are the torium 16 only comes in a narrow? how much 30# mono can fit in that thing? less than 200? thank you!
It only comes in narrow. All the specs are here: www.jandh.com/shimano-torium-hg-reels.html

which reel reel would you prefer this one or the avet?, im fishing for stripers and blues, live lineing mackerel, trolling tubes, an casting plugs here an there
Anthony Forte Either reel is great. The Torium casts really well. If you go with the Avet, get the MC version.
jandhtackle thanks for the reply
Hey josh, mi looking for a reel for surface iron casting, for yellowtail in San Diego, im thinking about the torium 20hg or the 16hg, which would you recomend?
+Inshoreangler1301 Both are the same reel. Make your choice based on the line capacity that you need.
Thanks, i thinking im going with the 16, im going to pair it with a trevala
+Inshoreangler1301 Sounds good! We have both in stock.
I was thinking the trevala S, but i dont know if im going to be able to cast the iron that are about 3 oz, or do live bait fishing, becarse ive never used them, water do you think?
+Inshoreangler1301 I would go with a different rod. Those are jigging rods.
Very informative 👍🏻 thanks for sharing 🤝🤝🤝 from here in Dubai
2:28 30 Bucks???
Elvis Quek 230 bucks.
What rod would you pair with the 16? All purpose type fishing.
ThatJuanGuy27 me personally i paired it with expert graphite hammerhead pe3.5 maxjig 400g
It only has 24lbs of drag?
You say that like 24 lbs is not a lot of drag.
jandhtackle What can 24lbs handle?
A lot. What are you fishing for?
jandhtackle Yellowtail, white sea bass and small tunas.
24 lbs is more than enough for that.
