Cannot thank you enough for all the tips and tricks my fishing has significantly improved since you started making videos. Kudos to how you always preach proper fish management!
Got asked for my license by the MNR officer today. He looks at me and says " I love the Clayton Schick Hat!! We shot the breeze a bit about ya! I'm just starting to target pike on the ice, appreciate the tips 😀 Tight lines man!
I picked up a finicky fooler at our local fleet store. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I feel pretty confident after watching you put them to work
Finally someone shows the pike rig I use and swear by, not a fan of fluorocarbon or two hook quick strike rigs. use tie-able titanium and a single treble that is name brand not eagle claw...perfect clayton.
I love all your input on Pike fishing . that is my main species I fish for , Please keep bringing the great videos man ! I'm ready for a big time ice camping and cooking fishing trip
Caught three nice pike yesterday using a hole in my shack, with a 20lb fluorocarbon leader, 25 lb braid, with a bobber, splitshot and a single treble and some raw chicken, catches a lot of fish!
That’s funny I always thought you were left handed due to the reel being on the left! Never thought about fighting with your dominant hand! makes sense
Thanks Clayton I'll give those VMC trebles a try. Have you tried their spinshot swiveled hooks? Killer drop shot rigging to be had with them. Nice fish Carter!!! Keep giving the old man lessons on them biggins.
Awesome work and good info as always Clayton. Good to see Carter out as your wingman again. The pike seem to do some real inspection before they chomp on. Are the jawjackers too aggresive a setup for the big pike or?
Hey Clayton awsome video again! I'm looking to try to get into filming my hunting and fishing adventers and was wondering what kind on camcorder that you were using while you was showing off carter's fish?
So funny story, just got back from a 4 hour trip up north, near Canada, fishing chaumont bay on lake Ontario. Was negative 18, wind whipping, caught no walleye or perch like the day before. In 27ft of water, on bottom, big loud crack in the ice happened, scared the heck out of us, right then, that exact moment, I looked away from th humminbird, and I felt like I was snagged on bottom, bam! Hooked up on a big pike, thought for sure it was a giant walleye, then got these big runs and I was like what the heck is this?? Thought for sure it was a laker! Get it close to the hole, what the heck!?! A big pike!! 27ft down on a live minnow+jig n rap. How wierd?? Everything i thought i knew about pike, throw it out the shack window onto the ice and pee on it! Hahaha
Excellent info as always!! Thanks. you ever use VMC sure set treble hooks ? Almost always hooked in corner of mouth . Problem is I think they stopped making them , hard to find.
I have struggled with getting good hook sets. I will set into a fish and fight it for like 5 seconds and then they drop it 😤 what would you suggest? I have tried like a pike hook and quick strike rigs and just a single treble. I've waited for the fish to reposition the bait and take back off and I've tried setting right away and doesn't seem to make a difference. I would love some help here. Love this channel it has quickly became my absolute favorite to watch.
Try smaller trembles. One behind the head, the other in the side of the bait. Or try some big circle hooks. Reel until you have weight, then just a steady lift. If you set the hook traditionally you'll pop rm off but with a good pull you'll usually stick em in the sweet spot at the corner.
Hey question for you. When your using the finicky fooler how do keep the bait suspended, like what prevents your bait to keep falling to bottom thru the spot where your line rests. Thanks love the videos
I was wondering, were do you buy your AFW from? I cant find anywhere locally and amazons prices are to high!. I have already switched all my thermal tipups to this stuff its brilliant thankyou for the setup vids using it
Had a friend switch to a long rod, missed fish after fish right at the hole, went back to a 32 inch and landed every one including a person best walleye at 28 3/4 inches, is loosing fish at the hole a “beginner “ problem or is it common with longer rods ?
Sounds like a beginner problem. A longer rod will not cause you to loose more fish in fact it should be the other way around. A longer rod will absorb more of the head shake. Near the hole my guess is he was pointing the rod right at the fish maybe?
Shimano sienna. Walmart for about 30 bucks. Not a huge difference. You dont need a smooth reel to fish dead baits. It has a smooth drag and really that's all that matters.
I'm left handed my spinning rods are left handed reel but if I'm using bait casters I prefer the reel on the right. I feel using them like this I get a better feel in both
20 pound line😳😳, yeah you get the job done with it but it's doesn't give you alot of extra so the chance of it breaking if you pull to hard and the pike desides to make a run it could go bad....
@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors yeah I've had pike snap 28 pound mono so yeah. Of course it gets the job done but it only has to be that one time and you leave a hook in a big pikes mouth
@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors I fish with 20 pound braided line for PERCH (on open water of course) so yeah I think thats it's to light. And 80 pound for pike on open water soooo....
@@erikstahl464why so heavy?!?! Everything weighs 1/6th as much in water as it does on land. I've caught piles of pike on 20lb braid up to and exceeding 40" fish regularly on lake of the woods. Smooth drag protects your line. Usually the only failure you'll see is your leader
@@eduffy4937 yeah but if I target pike I want to be in charge of the fight, I can't be that with 20 lb braid so open water targeting pike i have braid in the 70-80 pound range
Large pike prefer big dead baits. Everything runs off calories put in to catch food vs calories gained. Any pike prefers a meal 30% of its body length in studies done.
No relation when it comes to cisco and herring. Cisco are in the salmonidae family and herring are in the clupeidae family. Sometimes cisco are referred to as “Lake Herring” but that is a misnomer, as they are not a true herring. The fish you are using as bait ARE true herring. 18:43
What brand is the herring? 😜😅 just kidding! man you always have good content but honesty I’m getting annoyed with all the salesman and advertising segments of your videos 🤨
Can't do anything right hey? If I don't talk about what I am using I get "I wish you would explain more" Because I talked about the hooks I was using, the tip ups and the rods? Come on man... I am trying to keep everyone happy.

Clayton you're so patient in your approach and your explanations of what you're doing and why are the best.
Sitting here slaying crappies , watching the video and waiting for my pike tip-up to go off!!! 🎣🎣🎣
Hey let’s go for big pike. BOOM. Smashes big fish. Love it.
Better to be lucky than good!
Thanks to your videos I just ordered three finnicky fooler tip ups! Can’t wait to try them up here in Alaska!! Amazing videos!
Nice! You will love them!
Doesn't seem to matter where Clayton goes - he's ALWAYS catching BIG QUALITY FISH!!!
It's because he targets them and not all the other fish in the pond

Dang. Cranking out a lot of content lately. Good stuff as always. Wasn't gonna fish today but now I'm gonna go hit the power hour before dark

I love your shows 🤘 thanks again , the best show there is !! 👍👍
Way to go boys. This is perfect. I'm heading out to hang baits soon. Getting me stoked for gators🐊
Amazing video, what a beautiful beast of a fish to start off the day!
Nice one Carter!!
Yes thank you sir for all you do for fishing industry and us ... your the best sharing info an teacher.... much love from Minnesota
its nice to know that somebody supports the idea of fighting the fish with your dominant hand, im always getting called out for that 🤦♂
Great video!! Would love to see smallmouth through the ice. You’re the man Clayton I’ll never miss a vid fr😂
Just spent the weekend chasing big pike. Biggest I got was 38". We'll see what I learn from this video
Thank you for the great advice and showing us how you rig your baits. Look forward to more videos to come
THOSE PIKE ARE HUUUUUUGE🤘🤘 SWEET!
Great video, Clayton and Connor. Pike are so much fun to battle, especially through the ice. Tight lines!
Nice, great job, and it's great to see the young man again 👍 👏 😀
Another awesome video from "Of course he is Clayton Schick" 🤙Keep them coming my man and I will keep catching !!
Thanka for putting in the work as always Clayton.
awesome video!, glad to see I wasnt too far off with my pike fishing!, time to study some more types of fish
No one does it better than you!
Nicely done guys!! Can’t wait to get out and hang some baits soon 🍻🧊🎣
U can make a video of just a 40 and I'm going to watch...... You did 2 over that 💯🔥
Excellent! And love the FROSTBITE HOODIE! Gotta get me one!!
such a good hoodie!
Just got my finicky fooler hole cover today, going to test this weekend! Thanks for the vid and the tips/gear
That big pike is going to go tell all her friends she got a pat on the belly from the legend himself Clayton!

Enjoyed this video! Thanks KC Don 😉

Yup! I use them all the time for walleye. Love them!
exactly what i was reasearching
Skill hand on the rod just like on the stick!!
Love the Hockey Lace sweater!
Love that hoodie as well!
pickled pike is the best
Not gonna lie, that was the outdoors!
I’m right handed and like to reel spinning rods with my left hand but if I’m using a bait caster I prefer the reel on the right side
Let’s go pike season
You sure do produce some incredible videos.
Appreciate the kind words.
I’d take that day/style/flag amount always!!!!😂🎉. Great day boys!!

Rods and reels make it easier to bring in a big fish

Drag on the reel
Is the wire leader different from a steel leader?
Hey Clayton, do you know what setting you used for Max mode or clear mode?
Just realized I reel same hand as carter
I was wondering, were do you buy your AFW from? I cant find anywhere locally and amazons prices are to high!. I have already switched all my thermal tipups to this stuff its brilliant thankyou for the setup vids using it
It’s expensive stuff….. I bought it right from afw a few years ago.

That fish when it communicates with the others, they slapped my belly. and called me a fat boy!
Hey Clayton, how do I know when to pack up and move or also how do I find fish 😏?✌️
Spots change all the time. Sometimes you need a couple weeks at a spot to know whether or not it’s worth it. Underwater cameras help a lot :)
The Shimano Stradic seems kind of expensive. Do you have any cheaper alternatives maybe?
Shimano sienna. Walmart for about 30 bucks. Not a huge difference. You dont need a smooth reel to fish dead baits. It has a smooth drag and really that's all that matters.
In the video, you said the video would talk about where you’re fishing. So where are you fishing? What lake?
I never said I would give the lake away?
What lake??
I'm left handed my spinning rods are left handed reel but if I'm using bait casters I prefer the reel on the right. I feel using them like this I get a better feel in both
I’m the same way to be honest :). I’ve actually trained myself to use either hand. But I do prefer reeling with me left for the spin casting rod
What is Carter's PB Pike? Did the 44 inch break it?
He caught one with me last year that is 44.5" So just short!!
20 pound line😳😳, yeah you get the job done with it but it's doesn't give you alot of extra so the chance of it breaking if you pull to hard and the pike desides to make a run it could go bad....

Do you ever use live bait? If not what’s the benefit of dead bait beside it not being a challenge for the pike to catch?
Most places you are not able to use live bait.
Large pike prefer big dead baits. Everything runs off calories put in to catch food vs calories gained. Any pike prefers a meal 30% of its body length in studies done.
What size Ice rod do you need for Pike?
I like the 43"H Mister Big from Frostbite :)
Only one hook, Clayton? I've done tests in my humble opinion. 2 hooks reduces gut hooks, and i lose less fish.
If you hit them right away you don’t gut hook. I don’t loose many fish either :). Nothing wrong with both methods.
@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors I have to catch the dinks. I can see just targeting tanks using one hook
@@evanhammond7305 ya I’d rather not mess with the small ones if I don’t have too.
@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors fish snob lol
@@evanhammond7305 you are not wrong haha
Do you ever use live bait for pike?
We can't use live bait in Saskatchewan
Why bother? Do a side by side comparison and you'll see pike prefer larger dead baits over lively baits.
