What a great video! I'm a new subscriber and tuning it. Your videos are very well made and presented, you speak VERY WELL so I'm not getting bored. Catch ya at next year's IceTeam Pro Day!
Glad to know I've been fishing every jig I have vertical. I thought that's how they all fished. I use mostly minnows looking for crappie. Definitely might try the duckbill.
Haha, that’s awesome. I appreciate that man! I knew there was a big information gap when it came to tungsten jigs and I tried my hardest to cover everything.
Awesome video! Thanks for the tips, definitely going to be adding some of these to my tackle box! Really like the duckbill jig with the clam maki set up
Great video, watching older videos to ease the ice withdrawals. In the video you mentioned you can't see fish in the weeds. Looks like you have an flx 30 or 28 based on the yellow seal, look up weed mode and low power approach for weeds. Thanks for the entertainment and wisdom.
Thanks! When I made this video I was pretty green on that machine but have since learned how to use weed mode and rarely go out of low power mode anymore unless I’m fishing over 35’ of water. The FLX 30 is a heck of a unit once you learn how to use it.
@@calebwistad Thanks for the reply, I really enjoy the videos, it keeps my fishing evolving when I get to see what other people are doing and how they’re advancing the sport. I actually just upgraded to the flx30bb when Thorne Bro’s had it at Rock bottom pricing. Stepped up from the flx-12 and a backup Marcum M1 I had and I agree it’s an amazing piece of tech. I just wish they put buttons instead of all the knob back and forth mode stuff lol.
Getting my gear going for this weekend. 2nd year out and got my own rod and reels and running 4 lb sufix ice magic. Taking notes on these jigs so thanks my man! Great video
Great video of breaking it down! It's difficult to know how it looks in hand and what action they have. Anyone who watches this video will have all the confidence in the world to pick the right jigs.
I think you have a great idea of using the caviar jig with a minnow. I can't wait to try that this year on my tip downs for some big perch and hopefully some big crappie.
as much as i like catching 'eyes through the ice, i LOVE bluegill fishing way better... Love seeing a big slab gill come through that hole... nothing tastes better than a big slab gill...i gotta say though, i wish my garage was as neat and tidy as yours!
Always laughed at seeing them tungsten and banana jigs. Not no more. Got 5 spinning rods for the ice in my bucket. Each with different colors jigs and 1 firetiger stick bait. Good vid!! I subbed. 👍😁👍
WHEN I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO FULL SCREEN ON MY LAPTOP THE DESCRIPTION ON THE RIGHT WITH THE LINKS DOESN'T SHOW. ONLY THE SMALL DESCRIPTION DIRECTLY BELOW WITH NO LINKS SHOWS AND ONLY IF YOU SCROLL OR DECREASE THE SCREEN SIZE. I NEVER THOUGHT TO LOOK TO THE RIGHT FOR A DESCRIPTION AS I HAVE NEVER SEEN LINKS TO THE RIGHT OF A VIDEO BEFORE BUT I FOUND THEM.
What size and color would you recommend. I fish in Lake Onalaska which is pool 7 of the Mississippi River and I'm in usually around 10 ft of water sometimes a little deeper
Clam makes some awesome spoons! I especially like the leech flutter spoon line. Pinhead minnows work really well too but I also like the Eurotackle T-flashers for micro spoons. I’m in the Spooner/Hayward area.
@@calebwistad would you mind sharing where you found them at. I've been to Scheel's, and Cabela's and they don't have them. They didn't even know what I was talking about.
@@TristanSoldier I see the link I put in to Amazon says they are sold out now. You can purchase them directly from Clam's website here: shop.clamoutdoors.com/duck-bill-drop.html
I'm new to ice fishing and confused. Regarding hook sizing, aren't all anglers, not just ice, used to the number which refers to the hook gap? I thought this was universal for fishing hooks. I believe the most common for ice jigs is 8 thru 14 so is a Clam Sm a 14? 12? Is their Med a 10? Lg an 8?
The best thing to do is go look at the Clam website. They list every hook size for each of their jigs and for each size of jig. The problem with only going by hook size is that it’s more of a ratio between the jig body and the hook that matters. Therefore, when they make an “XL” jig, it is simply the ratio of hook to body that changes. For instance, an XL drop jig has 3 different hook sizes depending on what weight jig you buy. #12, #10 and #8 for the 1/64 oz, 1/32 oz and 1/16 oz, respectively.
No, but he has a point. I fish a lot and most of the time when fish are hungry they will eat anything you put in front of them. When they’re not hungry they won’t eat anything. My buddies and I hardly ever use the same lures at the same time and we all catch pretty much the same amount. Companies constantly putting out new “best thing since sliced bread” lures are concerned about one thing. The bottom line. No pun intended but it works.
@adventureswithfrodo2721 I assume you missed your elementary science classes. With your reasoning, if I were to encase a 1" piece of foam in plastic it will sink at the same rate as a 1 inch steel ball encased in plastic🤣. Look up the concept and meaning of density.
There is only one tungsten jig I talked about in this video that is encased in plastic and that is the Epoxy Drop. I mentioned that the epoxy drop would fall a hair SLOWER than a tungsten jig without the epoxy coating, which is correct due to more water resistance on the same weight of tungsten. Are you suggesting that it would fall exactly at the same rate of a lead jig? Because that would be a complete guess on your part. I would argue that a tungsten jig encased in plastic is very different than a lead jig and I explained why in the video had you been paying attention.
I’m trying to get into walleye, perch, and bluegill ice fishing as a Wisconsin native. Very great video!!
Nice, and thanks! What part of wisconsin are you from?
I live in green bay Wisconsin since 2003 from Brooklyn New York born and raised
My first ice fishing trip was last year with my boss and his dad

You should do a video on soft plastics for panfish
That’s in the works for this coming ice season!
Very informative...I only watch videos to learn and that was full of lessons! Subscribed immediately
Great to hear! That’s exactly why I made this video. Thanks for subbing. I’m hoping to be uploading more videos like this one soon!
Clam Hire this guy!! Great video and awesome info. Gonna hit the bait shop to pick some of these up.

Great video I learned a lot. Know try to remember it all.
It’s a lot isn’t it? Lol
You should touch on the proper knots, loop knots add a huge amount of movement to some jigs !
True. Maybe I’ll make a video on that some time.

That video was very helpful.
Good!
Very informative! Keep it up! I did throw a like on the video for you! I have to remember to try teardrop next time the bite is tough.
Thanks. Yes. It sometimes makes all the difference.
Great video!!
Thanks!
what about adding scent to the jigs if you are not using live bait. Does crawfish/nighcrawler etc improve hook up rates? Nice video.
If I need scent I use Billy Rub. That stuff is amazing. Sometimes it definitely makes the difference.
Very informative video. How bout your thoughts on the pinhead minnow and the clam spoons. What part of Sconnie you live in? I’m from Eagle River

I still like my lead jigs. Glad I have hundreds of them because almost noone is making them anymore! I can't stand how fast tungsten drops!
There is certainly still a place for lead jigs for sure!

You are really ignorant about tungsten. With a jig head encased in plastic it is no different then a lead jig.
