I tried to make my own VST plugin based on my own guitar samples I made in Fruity Loops for a midi cover of a Necrophagist song, and BOY is it hard. Getting every note to sound the same, but natural is fucking difficult.
I didn't even try sampling any dynamics either, it was just normal strum notes. I bet that took FOREVER.
(I was doing this to get used to the piano roll in FL studio and because I have the fruity edition I can't put in my own guitar recordings, kinda lame. I'm using reaper for that purpose now)

The fact that Thundercat exists is enough proof that bassists will never not be needed. For some metal artists (specifically solo artists) i guess bassists "aren't needed" but by the same logic guitars and drums can be programmed for metal as well. So no instruments are really needed for a metal band by that logic.

I'm sure you already have figured this out, but you don't have to add articulation notes to an articulation that's already engaged. You just need to put one note there to trigger the keyswitch from one articulation to the other, and then you don't need to put that keyswitch in again until you switch articulations. Example, you're playing hammer-ons, you can put one note in the hammer-on keyswitch note, and it'll hold that until you put a new note in at a different measure for say, harmonics, or if its some other thing like thump or tap. whatever. but yeah. you don't have to break that stuff up like that and match the keyswitches ot the individual musical notes. one will be enough. For future reference. This'll shave TONS of time off of your tabbing duties.

Bands not having a bassist is a very lame trend, especially live, just not the same. For songwriters, demos, one man bands etc it makes sense
Jared hit the nail on the head when he said "its kind of hard to tell because its so fast but it sounds close/right" that's the blesssing/curse of writing extreme music. Its so goddamned hard to play some of this shit that its hard to tell when its wrong, and jared's such a humble dude that he's got no problem admitting that its hard to tell if the midi track was "correct". We're all human haha. My worst peeve is when I start writing a song and go a while without hearing it, and I gotta go back and re-learn all the parts to track the final version of the damned song and I'm like "what.... the fuck.... was I doing there". lol

I think I can hear how the note transitions are too clean in the software version. There are small nuances from the left and right hand that I don't think are present in the software. It does sound cool though, would probably make for a cleaner sounding mix or fit well in synth music.

this makes me feel less guilty for using midi to make my post hardcore tracks even though i much prefer real instruments for authenticity. im only an experienced drummer and although i have a guitar set up to record, ive only been playing for a few months so i cant really play the stuff i write. so this helps w coping thanks dean
