- It's time to buy some new bird toys for Pillow the Budgie and Pearl the Cockatiel. We take Pearl to be groomed and go on a field trip to go shopping for new parakeet and cockatiel toys!

Your son is so polite both to you and your budgies. He's the first child that I have seen that has had the patience to bond with their bird.
They will grow
I love all the toys except those fuzzy blanket things, as you said your birds love chewing (like most birds including mine) and they will chew those blankets up and maybe even eat the strings . Then the strings will get stuck in their crop and you will have to get it surgically removed. Plus they can accidentally get caught in it or even suffocate . And you definitely DON’T want that.
Yes these can also encourage mating behaviors.
In addition strings can come lose and get tangled in between their toes as well as wrap around heads and block air circulation

Hi Diana. If your cockatiel is plucking I would first understand the reason of plucking, it could be loneliness, boredom, etc. I would then try to take proactive measures to combat that. Really just take the time to understand your bird, and if need be, you can contact a bird expert, a private consultation or a vet. Good luck and I hope your cockatiel gets better.

I dont recommend using those blanket things. if they chew on them the fibers can get stuck in their crop and block it up. it also can get strings pulled out that can choke them. it could also trigger nesting behavior in Pearl

Reminded me of my cockatiel that had passes away. I am sad, but I've learned to let go and be happy that he's in a better place. When I think of him, a wave of sadness comes over me, but then I remember he's in a place where he is happy, finding all his needs and wants. Thank you for sharing the, heh. I went off track.
It is really hard to lose a friend you have had for a great number of years. Mine are 16 and I know they are entering that time frame. I could never get them to eat vegetables, fruits or meat so I am not sure just how healthy they are.

Nice video. I know bird toys can be pretty expensive and overpriced sometimes so I have some tips!
1. Shop at Walmart, they have a pretty good selection of toys for birds which are surprisingly good in quality, also very cheap!
2. Shop at pet supplies plus, the prices are kinda high, but if you find the product on amazon they will match it and give it to you for that price! I’ve saved SOO much money on my pets by doing that, since amazon has great prices and it works for all products!
3. Make your own!! I know that kinda seems hard but trust me it’s very easy. I just take apart their old toys that they’ve gotten bored of and put them together on a flexible wire. It’s a new toy made with old toys!

You picked some nice toys. There are no defined seasons Florida. My cockatiels love their Cozy Corners for the rare "Winter" morning chill., Oh the water towers are handy for travel, if you're able to attach them to the bird carriers.
Cozy corners can be super dangerous! I'd suggest taking them away before something bad happens
Mine hated his cozy corner. I took it out anyways because I heard it can hurt them

I have a budgie and cockatiel my cockatiels name is pearl to she is a pearl pied cockatiel and she was abused before I got her but she is better now and my budgies name is lime I got her at petco.

Your budgie Pillow is so tame! I got my creamino budgie named Daystar from Petco with a blue budgie named Nightsky and they are both really scared , everything I try it just does not seem to work out. It took me about 4 months to get Star to perch on my hand,. And Sky still can't perch on my hand. you have done a really good job raising them!

Wish we had a Bird store here on our island! Only Petco. Watch the cozy corners to make sure they don’t eat them . I know for conures happy huts and cozy corners they can eat and get the fibers stuck in their crops. I bought a handmade fleece hut on Etsy for Irie as it is safer❤️
Those waterers are good for maybe an emergency, but i have tried those same ones and my 7 birds don't drink out of them. The part where they drink the water is very slim and hard to put their beaks through. Also the cozy corners are potentially hazardous to your birds. Their talons can get stuck in the fuzz (which even happened to me!) and birds may ingest the fuzz. There have been birds that have died from ingesting small amounts of fuzz.
Good job of knowing that birds need a variety of toys. Your birds will probably like the shreddable toys better, but every bird is different so maybe not.

When my cockatiels were young I would buy stuff like that. They weren't crazy about the warmers. Now I make my own enrichment stuff. Don't bother with the puzzles either. A paper lunch bag with plain popcorn works. Stuff a TP core with shredded paper. Small boxes to chew on. Large Popsicle type sticks can be drilled and hung with twine or shoe laces. Be careful with feeding your bird cereals. We used to give ours ample amounts until I watched a toucan video, I think it was, where it was mentioned iron was not good for them. As you are aware cereals are fortified.
Throw some alfalfa hay and oats hay with some sunflower seeds /pellets on a large tray or table. They would forage for hours.

0:18 This is why budgies need budgies and cockatiels need cockatiels. A beak of a cockatiel is much bigger and can't do this as precise as a budgie beak. I hope one day both of them will get a partner and friend of their species...
Some quick tips for bird owners-
They can get there nails and beaks
caught in the holes in bells, so I wouldn't reccomend them
Strings can cause impaction and entanglement, so that's not the best choice either.
Fabric houses are like the two combined. They can catch in the nails and cause impaction.

Wish they had a bird store here in my area like that one. That looks so cool. My cockatiel has that same toy with the orange green and yellow balls with the bell on the bottom. We also have the toy with the green blue yellow and red balls with the bell on the bottom. And we have a small mirror. I would love to change the toys up but budget is tight and he doesn't really play with any of those toys. Probably should get some new ones.
The water thing.
I have as well. From pets at home. But my. Budgie take a beak full of seeds and fills the little drinking thing up.
So I have to clean it out all day. He also has a stainless steel dish as well

But... NO NO NO on those fuzzy bird buddy huts!! I've seen reviews on Amazon where their birds have died from the build up of ingest g the fibers.
A better option I think is at PetCo or PetSmart (I forget which one I saw it at) they have some made out of regular fabric. It was a tropical print and I might have glimpsed one while you were at Omar's in one of the cages.
The blanket thing?
Every time we put my bird in her carrier she knows immediately she’s going to get her nails clipped she’s not happy at all. We take her to a place called the Magnolia bird farm and this guy we call the bird man literally just picks her up and clips her nails and she literally makes the most unhappiest noises. It probably would have been much nicer if he would use your bird place’s methods to calm her a bit more and with that mechanical filer too. One time the bird man even cut too low and she started to bleed a lot and we had to have them put on this corn starch (I think) solution that stopped the bleeding. Don’t get me wrong he isn’t a bad person he’s great with birds in fact just that one time :P
I just bought a stop lite for my Greyson. He gets a toy when I get his nails cut!😂😂😂

I got cockatiel for Christmas this year
Can someone give me advice? I’m taking my bird to the vet for a well check and nail trim. Should I get his wings clipped? He has ran into some windows in my house. We also have fans... I usually turn them off when he’s out, but... yeah. I’m afraid. One fly and I can’t get to the fan in time and he’s a goner. But... I’ve heard that clipping a birds wings will have health issues. Like obesity. Can someone help? Also, if I do clip his wings, how will I bring him to the vet? I have a harness. I’m also getting a travel cage. Help!!
I recommend taking out the fuzzy corners because birds can ingest the fuzz and die or can become hormonal because it thinks it’s a nest

We have 2 parakeets a white one, and a pastel blue with a yellow head, we still haven’t named them yet, everything I like my husband doesn’t and everything he likes I’m not fond of, so for now we call them budgies with a cute accent. We also have a little green cheek conure named West. We plan on getting a cockatiel in late January-mid February.

My birb Fred the cockatiel never had his nails trimmed for 18 years he's never been to a vet he's healthy just fine I think veterinarians take advantage of people especially people with cats and birbs.
