Point A to point B transportation, reliability, low cost. That's all you need in a car. People go out and finance a vehicle that drops in value the moment they start using it... smh.

I love my Echo too and I can afford to buy any car I want. I've had a Corvette and a Tesla S before. Those cars perform great and are fun to drive but I prefer to drive a beater and I like efficiency. The Echo is one of the most reliable cars ever made. The fact that it has no luxury features makes it more reliable than other cars that do. Mine doesn't have the fold down rear seats like yours does (must be nice mr money bags over there).

Got mine 6 years ago, a 2000 Echo with 64k miles on it. Now it reads 140k miles and still going strong. I drive it to and from work everyday, about 42miles/day. Even in snow.
      Very reliable.
The only thing to watch out for is its body roll. Because it sits high, it's center of gravity is not well anchored. Quick turns specially at high speeds to avoid collision is not its strongest attribute. It spun out on me once on the free way and I have started slowing it down ever since. Otherwise you would be driving 80mph and not even notice it. Amazing car for the price overall. Mine has paid back its value and then some just from the $$ saved at the pump.

The Mirage is slow off the line and a little loud on highways, but bigger thsn you think and comfortable.

I am the proud owner of a 2003 Toyota Echo. Currently has 128,000 miles on it. People tend to judge this car negatively based on appearances alone. But boy, they don't know what they're missing out on. Echos may not be the prettiest, but they are super-reliable, low maintenance, and they get the job done. I'm convinced that Echos are amongst the most reliable fuel-efficient (43 miles per gallon!) cars ever made. Plus, they have decent storage space to boot. Toyota needs to bring these kinds of cars back on the market (with perhaps a more aesthetically appealing design). Nowadays people are looking for a car that fits into a niche, fuel efficient, cheap, sturdily built, economy car.

I am in process to purchase another echo, best vehicle I've ever had ! This car will get into your blood the longer you drive it ! 40 mpg, handles like a sports car, parks easily unto tight spots , can't even hear the engine at 80-90mph ! I own a Toyota Echo 85,500 miles (free from my dad), a Ferrari California, a Porsche 911, a Land Rover Disco II 4.6, a Infiniti QX30, and a SAAB OG9-3. If there was a nuclear or chemical war tomorrow, I would abandon all the other cars and take the Echo with survival gear. It would be my SHTF car.
The Toyota Echo is like the cockroaches of cars. It will live forever because it’s simple, cheap on gas, easy to fix and will run forever. Meanwhile the gas level in fuel gauge of the Ferrari will drop if you just look at it funny.
