- By 1987, Run DMC's popularity was fading while Fat Boys were reaching new heights. We compare 1987 performances from Showtime at the Apollo and let the crowd by the judge.
RIP Buffy, Prince Markie D and Jam Master J - ตลก
Almost brings me to tears. We will NEVER see great Hip Hop performances like this again. I miss the 80s, The Fat Boys & Run -DMC!
Me to bruh and will always listen to the old school music.
Never
Right....f^ck these lame ass times bro...seriously.
U are so right, this was when rap was fun and entertaining.😢
Me too
RIP Buff, Prince Markie Dee & Jam Master Jay 🙏🏿
It's Sad But They Made Hip Hop what it is Today
Yeah man rip buff.
why did u add high five emoji?
Same thing I said today
Those are praying hands lol @@skrejp_
It's time for the Fat Boys to be voted in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. Now is the time. Salute to my Brooklyn brothers 💯
💯
Totally agree! They were the first to do many things in entertainment & was a force to be reckoned with during their time! Start the petition & hit Kool Rock Ski up so he can help push us giving him their flowers now
@mechelle1 I am going to see if I can reach out to Kool Rock Ski, the only living member of the Fat Boys.
This was such a special time in hip hop the golden years
The Fat Boys rocked the crowd at the APOLLO, Run Dmc & Jam Master Jay were NOT at the end of there career, they dropped Tougher than Leather and it was a dope lp.
I'm a fan of both of these legendary hip hop groups and down since day 1, R.I.P. to the Jam Master, Buffy and The Prince Markie Dee.
SUPER FACTS !!!!!!!
No doubt 💯
Buffy always looks so happy on stage
He ate McDonald's before he came on stage I think. Maybe that's why.
Run-DMC's successful run came to an end after 1988 not by 1987! They still had Run's House & Beats To The Rhyme that hit the streets hard in 88'
I agree with you ...They had 5/6years going strong...83-88......
Yeah because 88 they Did Walk this way so they were still poppin definitely done by 1990
Yesss. But don't forget about you wanna be down with the KINGS. Right around mid 90's✌🏾
Did you forget Tougher than Leather came out in 88. Down with the King in 93 so how was they done 😮
By 88 it was over, 87 was the last year they were considered on top of rap only because of past highs. Fresh Prince, LL, Rakim and BDP had it by late 87 going into 88. Then late 88/89 nwa and ghetto boys took it over
The Fat Boys are the shit. Run DMC too. Krush Groove.......what a fine film. This performance is as old as me. Love this old stuff
Wish like hell we can go back to this this era was the best 🙏🏾💯
Best rap Era was the 80s NO BOASTING OR BRAGGING about material things!!!
Agreed 💯
Biggie, puff, Jay z started that bragging about money clothes and hoes rap ...an everyone else followed that shit
Actually…. “Champagne caviar and bubble baths…. Lee on my legs and adidas on my feet’…. I got a big long Caddy, not like a Seville
And written right on the side, it reads, "Dressed to Kill". -RUNDMC
Real smooth and cool, we didn't have to front
@@LeaAnnePowellHawkins-tw4ez and now look at those fools, damn shame
Rest in peace our brothers fat boys
In 87 I was 18 fresh out of High School The Fat Boys and Run-DMC was hitting the air waves all across town Rest In Peace Prince Markie Dee , Buffy , and Jam Master Jay 🙏🏾
damn! i only knew the music from the albums.. i didn't realize they had all these live appearances.. here i am rediscovering them like 40 years later
RUN DMC wasn't coming to a end crowd didn't know this song they are greatest group ever
Wasn't same show its two different shows spliced together
Go onto TH-cam and search rundmc tougher than leather live. It's not a video but it's supposed to be live in 1986... crowd energy 🔥🔥
Salute to the FatBoys but the early and mid to late 80s were the kings from queens hands down💪🏾

All Facts.
Facts
I loved the Fat Boys as a 12 year old growing up here in the U.K 84'.
Real shit, days were😅them days. Appreciate the video.
Who krush groovin in 2022?..?
BODY MOVIN !!! 💯 2023now
I'm krush grooving in 2024
Disco 3!!! This shit was so live in ‘83!!!
I remember watching this video on tv back in the 87. I was 11 yrs old
I was 13
I was 11 also! 76! What times we enjoyed!!!! All the greats! We even enjoyed atari 2600 and the best arcades ever! We were so lucky!!!!
@fonsecarichard LOL. That was the only game system I had. My granny fussed about how it cost $50 bucks which was high back then considering the time frame. Lol. I loved this game called "Keystone Capers." Good times man.
@@Funkywaters LOL I’ve never seen that game Keystone Kapers, but after looking it up it reminds me of another game I used to play that you had to go up different floors, I forget the name lol. I used to play the tennis game that had these special round controllers lol I also loved pitfall, well I hated it when the alligator ate me haha 🤣
@fonsecarichard The game I mentioned, you do go in different floors. The cop is trying to catch you before you get the top floor and these brick like squares you have to hop over them.
I know you remember FROGGER.
2 legends greatest all time goats
This was nostalgic!! Hip Hop at it purist form🎙️I remember this performance, I was 10 in ‘87 & The Apollo was on our T.V. Every Saturday night!! #FatBoys #RunDMC&JMJ🫡
Wow fatboys rocked the place hell yeah
Brooklyn 🇵🇷🇵🇷
I miss these days
Why does this only have less than 2000 likes? Pure gold!
Run DMC was no where close to done in 87. They released several albums after that & are currently members of the Rock n Roll hall of fame!!
By 87 - The Hip Hop crowd turned on them. They started doing the Rock N Roll callob. Audiences started becoming white. As you can see nobody in the Apollo got out their seats.
Run D.M.C came to an end when they foolishly made new jack swing tracks on their fifth album 'Back From Hell' say what you want to say but i quote Ice Cube ' you can new jack swing on my nutz' ...however they came back hard with 'down with the king'
Right I don't know who said something so false and foolish.
@@urbanflavorzbut why...why did they turn they back on run dmc? Kinda hurt my feelings 😢...and is that why they sung that song on this video? This reminds me of run dmc at the MTV awards in 85 damn smh, I like fat boys 2, but damn
Facts don't care about people's feelings :; Ben Shapiro 😂
That was obviously two different audiences. The Run-DMC crowd was MUCH older, this wasn't the typical Apollo crowd.
Same Harlem Apollo audience for both. The streets stopped messing with Run DMC by 1987.
@@urbanflavorzI Hate To Say It But You're Right.
@@urbanflavorz I was 11 yrs old when this was on tv and break dancing was it and if you had any beef back then you would break dance.. I seen some people fight. But I seen people break dance..
The human beatbox. Darren Robinson, also known as Big Buff, Buff Love, Buffy, The Ox That Rocks, and DJ Doctor Nice was the first to pass away in 1995
I know knew Buffy's real name. Thanks for that one brody! R.I.P. to the true HUMAN BEAT BOX!
The Fatboys are my favorite from that time frame 😍 I still play all their music fatboys, run dmc Curtis blow etc to this day
These guys take me back to my youth 😎👍
I was born 1996 a year after Buff passed but knew who they were and a lot of acts from that time were but I can say Fat Boys perform better than my generation you see how electric the crowd was, you can see Buff was the star. RIP Buffy and Markie Dee And Kool Rock SKi still going strong
Who remembers the Skinny Boys
Skinny Boys and The Fat Girls (one hit wonders)!!!
@@Trump-The-GREATEST does anybody have the FAT GIRLS on tape or video?
Human Jock Box was the Shit
@@Trump-The-GREATEST I don't remember the fat girls lol
Most definitely!!!!!
Run DMC and the Fat Boys Rocking The House at the Apollo Theater
I wish Run DMC would've rocked King of Rock or Walk This Way for this one.
King of Rock mos def!!!!!! Anything from the first 2 Lps.....
I think I remember watching this live back in the day. Pretty sure I did, god I miss those days
Wow sweet nostalgia, miss them & that era! JMJ was my fav dj, I had a hat above my 1st stereo inspired by him!
Drink Champs should give Kool Rock Ski Gold Flowers in honor of Fat Boys since it’s about honoring UnSung hip hop artists & affiliates & they also deserve to be inducted into the RRHF bc they were the first to do many things as hip hop artists & businessmen!
I don’t remember Fat Boys ever receiving proper recognition & credit for their contributions to the industry and culture… it’s like no one even brings their name up anymore! RIP BUFF, PRINCE MARKIE D & JAM MASTER JAY🙏🏽
My era,all day ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
THE GOLDEN AGE WAS THE SUPREME DOPENESS FRFR LOVE THESE DUDES!!![999]
What a great night of legendary Hip Hop Artist. Two of the greatest groups that performed at the Apollo. That was amazing. 😎 😅😊
By the time Run DMC did Proud to be Black the Five Percent rappers had NY streets in a chock hold(Peace to the g.o.ds ✌🏾)
Yeaaah, so here's why this comparison is not a fact... it's actually the fat Boys who were close to their end in '87. These were literally their last hit songs, and they were performing these songs for the 'Showtime At The Apollo' crowd that was usually younger and more of a hip-hop audience. Run-DMC were performing Proud To Be Black from the multi-platinum Raising Hell album in front of an older Apollo crowd that wasn't into hip-hop at a show that was not 'Showtime'. Run-DMC actually went on in 1988 to have another platinum album, whereas the Fat Boys last hit album was in '87, and their next one was a flop. Both of these groups were considered old school by the time '90 hit, but the Fat Boys much more so.
Run DM performance is from SHOWTIME at the Apollo.
Agreed
Maaaaaaaan..i aint seen that episode with fat boys in years..R.I.P Buffy and Markie Dee...this brought back too many memories.. they were on the bill of the first concert i ever went too..them..full force..utfo..etc..
its hiphop history.87 i was 10 years old and here in germany all kids here fat boys and love it until today
Rapp died around 87/88
Right around when gangsta rapp made its debut and the movie Colors came out.
Rest easy buff and prince markey d jasmaster jay the greatest hip-hop days ever 💯💖 VA Richmond
Shout out to Richmond. BaD NewZ in the building
Fat Boys are my favourite Hip-Hop group and second favourite musical artists, they make REAL MUSIC, just fun, charaterfull, hardcore rapping on empty, bouncy drum emphasised Mid-School beats.
The hip hop sound Of 86 -85. 1987 we get Rakim and Boogie down productions the music completely changes for the better . The fat boys was in one of the greatest comedy movies ever made ; Disorderlies.(1987)
Mad respect to the beginnings of hip hop
Run Dmc had the crowd straight mesmerized by the lyrics and the tough energy. Fat boys were fun. Two different energies
I recently got me an adidas suit t shirt and shoes. a while back someone got me a run dmc cd like i didn't already have their music
If you weren’t around in the 80’s then you’d never understand…
They performed in front of two totally different audiences here. That is clear to see in very evident.
I'm happy to have discovered the fat boys even 30 some years after. They had a unique sound it reminds me of biz Markie and run DMC I wonder if one influence the other.?
Disco 3 run dmc and jam master jayyyy keep the old school alive
It wasn’t to many that can hang with Run DMC
Yeah I remember those guys had talent 😮 I miss them 😅
Run DMC had another movie with that same Christian at the church they were at on Krush Groove. That was Tougher Than Leather.
I was 7 years old
Tru Era of Hip-Hop!!
Fans were shocked and perplexed when they done I'm proud to be black, Rap was new and people didn't see the platform that it could inform. Black people about other things besides rhyming
"Wipe Out" was a huge hit at the time.
Buff's baby mama is Rapper Queen Pen.
Don't know what this video trying to prove. I was there during those days and it was by far no comparison, everyone couldn't get enough of RunDMC, The Kings from Queens.
Everyone was there. Their movie FLOPPED and their core hip hop fans left them. They said so themselves.
As a kid in the early 80s Fat Boys movies were awesome and funny af
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I do remember watching that 👆🏿 performance. I forgot that the announcer called them by their governments.
😢 true indeed great inventors
1987 damn
That Don't Mean Nothing The Crowd Obviously Don't know Rap & Hiphop Run DMC & Fat Boys are Both Legendary.. You Can't Compare the 2 Groups..
The Harlem NY crowd didn't know Hip Hop in 1987?
@@urbanflavorz Apparently Not if They are Coming up with That Vote.
Fat Boys stole the show with their energy and charisma plain and simple. But it’s music and is perception of the fans in the audience. You can’t say all these years later they were wrong lol
Hey I'm old as fk. The fat boys was the goats to me when I was 3
To me as we saw in this video even though both groups are legends in hip hop the crowd was going wild for the Fat Boys compared to nobody getting out of their seats for Run DMC and they had less time on stage. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.
i use to do stage work and hate to roll the mic cords after the show
Seriously, I just realized a blues brothers cross over. Damn run and dmc should be memorized like the blues brothers
Fat boys were there man. Krush Groove
BARBY STREET SCHENCK BELMONT ENY WAS THE AREA use to see them on the regular
They rocked The Apollo 💪🏿
Wow ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Heh, I love how the announcer gave Run DMC's real names
Nah! I thought Reverend Run, was gonna walk out on stage with the Fat Boys, and have a real duel 🤺!
Its time for the fat boys biopic now 🫡🎞🎬.
Run Dmc got this Fat Boys should performed there first album to compete with Run Dmc that's were there best Jamz were at!!!
3:13 - Crowd chanting "Do that shyt, do that shyt" lol
Run DMC and Jam Master Jay Were The Baddest of the Bad! God gifted them and God gifted us with them! The Fat Boys ( The Disco Three ) Also got down back when Rap was Fun but still Hard! Not a bunch of stupid cussing and full on disrespect and drugs! Like this KRap nowadays! 70s -80s and a bit of the early 90s were there best! Then it went to KRap big time! No its not the culture like fools say about KRap today! Unless they mean Stupid Disrespectful culture, then I would agree on that!
Yo that was def
I love the Fat Boys but RUN DMC going to win this versus, even if the Apollo crowd don’t get it. These weren’t even the Fat Boys best songs. Krush Groove was Run DMC movie, that’s what we called it as kids. All you can eat was fresh, but when can you rock it like this came on it hit different. Great vid it’s good being a 80s 90s kid
I so agree my dude
The crowd seemed to be hyped on the Fat Boys but the music content RUN DMC had was more of a pay attention message vibe. I think the crowd responded right on them both.
I love the 80$ and 90$😂😅
Man they was having fun back then
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The audience were probably told to stay seated because Eve stayed seated more than likely for a Special taping for the label
The audience is never told to stay seated. They stay seated when they not feeling the artist. Look at the energy of the crowd, not even clapping.
@@urbanflavorz I've worked live tapings and i have seen it and have instructed it , i never worked Apollo so don't know but it was odd the whole place upper rows also not normal especially 87 they had Run's House and Tougher Than Leather
Raising Hell was the measuring stick for the next generation. After that, Run DMC declined but everyone else stepped up.
The crowd was rocking to the fat boys not because they were dope rappers but because they were a novelty. The dancing and sampled songs makes it more entertaining and fun for young girls. Run dmc was too original and too hard. But as time passes, which group is respected and still played today? Rundmc.
A Novelty? They came out the same year as Run DMC (84). By this time they were on their 4th album.
novelty: in this video they did cute remakes of james brown and the beach boys.
Kizzumba333 casa de talentos e superação com sonhos e lutas
❤❤❤
RUN DMC didn't fall off at all, they did fade out but it was not 87 it was like maybe early 90's. Even with that they still did tours and stayed heavy in the culture for a while
Gold was so cheap then, big ol dookie ropes
Run DMC MOST DEFENSIVELY DEFINITELY ROCK THE HOUSE
What? All of a sudden the crowd was glued to their seats when Run-DMC hit the stage??? Wack A crowd!!!
Kings
