Run on one side and DMC on the other with JMJ up high in the middle on the turn tables. They started the show with Run’s House. The bass drum on the up beat went through your chest. Artists just do it for money and fame now…these guys did it for fun and respect for the music and they are legends because of it.
As a youngster a lot of the other rap around was corny as fuck. I mean this is a little corny, but compared to other pre-gangsta rap it's solid as fuck.

Man.. it was 1988 and I was 18 years old! The golden age of rap was just starting and the mighty Run DMC in truth.. were on the ropes! They had a five year domination and stronghold on hip hop culture! No one came even close in those years between 1983 and 1988. But.. by early 1987 the rap landscape was changing fast.This record showed the world that the great Run DMC had a little more juice left in the tank to compete in the changing landscape of hip hop! Looking back.. I’ll always believe that if they would’ve dropped Beats to The Rhyme on video instead of Mary Mary, they could have delayed the inevitable for a few more years possibly! At 50 years old now, I smile and give thanks that I was a witness to arguably the greatest rap group of all time in their prime! Run DMC and Jam Master Jay! 💥💯👊🏽
I agree. they started getting outdated once Rakim,Kane,Kool G Rap, Just Ice, Slick Rick Krs One and many others came out but they were still able to hang for a bit. Fortunately they had some resurgence in 93 when they hooked up with Pete Rock and did "Down with The Kings" which gave them a boost but by then West Coast rap was taking over and the Likes of Snoop and Dr Dre were dominating the charts.

What I loved about RUN DMC is not only their delivery but style. I mean they made Adidas popular, Lee denim jeans and a godfather hat! All things us kids in the 80s could afford and be part of this culture. The only thing I never had was the 30" dookie rope, but damn I wanted one 😂

I had tickets to see them in maybe 1988 on the Raising Hell tour ... my friend got arrested a few days before, and I didn't wanna travel and go alone. His parents grounded him ... and the tickets went to waste
