I felt a sense of peace the very moment the camera went inside the house. The bunker with art is nice, and I can see where one may need both, and the luxury of having both spaces is a blessing. The God given light is so magnificent and I feel like Johnson let it guide him.
Iconic ! I remembered seeing all those blueprints, descriptions and long details written on handouts... our tutor showed in Architecture school back then
I worked with Phillip Johnson around late 80s-early 90s time frame. In his application, he wrote an artist/architect designer statement 3 pages type written discussing his personal philosophy. It was pure poetry that brought many to tears. I shared that with many young designers over the upcoming years. He ready was an artist of great commitment.
@@sharksport01 The planes had only flown from Boston and were almost fully loaded with thousands of gallons of fuel. Steel loses a lot of its strength when it gets hot. It doesn't have to melt, just get hot. Each floor was made of relatively light steel trusses with concrete slabs on them. There were no intermediary columns, only the outer steel skeleton, and the concrete elevator shaft core. Once a couple of floors got soft and collapsed, their weight landed heavily on the ones below and everything was pulled down by the gathering weight of additional floors.
The beginning reminded me of an Alice in wonderland type thing where he was living inside a giant book of art turning giant pages. The glass home gave me such peace. Just beautiful.
I think the thought process that went into designing the "Glass House", is similar to the thought process that went into designing the "Emperors New Clothes".
Philip Johnson's Glass House video I'm sure I'm the last one to comment on the influence of Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House must have had on Mr. Johnson's Glass House. Both beautiful, iconic in perfect settings. Just say'n
Mies's Farnsworth house was designed before Johnson's house was, but I have heard that Johnson had been talking about building a glass walled house for himself before Mies took the Farnsworth commission. Mies may have been spurred to do the Farnworth project with glass walls from Johnson's enthusiasm about it, or Mies may have simply dipped into his own design history and drew on the Barcelona Pavilion. Between the two, I much prefer Johnson's, but If the Barcelona Pavilion had a kitchen and bath, I'd pick it over the other two.
I've tried too, without success. It's listed that way in the credits at the very end of the video... but I can't vouch for accuracy. Maybe we can ask Benjamin Clementine, who is supposed to have composed it! :)
iedei iedei that’s a non-answer. we all understand what you’re saying. hayden wants a specific model/brand. an arri alexa may just be another camera but compared to a canon 60d... if you had to duel someone wouldn’t you want the 30 round automatic rifle instead of the civil war era 1 shot musket? or is it not about the gun? lol
Hayden Moon i would assume they are using a camera with built in nd’s. i doubt nowness is going around with a camera that needs a mattebox for these docu style pieces. it would be too time consuming.
What bothers me about these glass structures are the amount of songbirds who run into the windows and die - so is it a really a structure within nature?
Rectangular structure with glass walls! I like it but for this man to be treated as a God of Architecture for what any amateur designer or architect could scribble within 20 seconds is a bit overkill!

He also helped design WTC and said there is no way planes brought those buildings down if I remember right.

love julian. a living legend in the world of art.
I love the music sound ....trying to find the name of music...
Would love to know the total of the piano music
The beginning reminded me of an Alice in wonderland type thing where he was living inside a giant book of art turning giant pages. The glass home gave me such peace. Just beautiful.
Architecture with around trees 🌳 Glasses wall so beautiful 🤍…soul…✨
gorgeous film
does anyone know where i can find the piano track in the beginning
I'm sure he's a joy to sleep with.... the snoring must be spectacular, an audible work of art
Jealous?
Please don't interrupt me while I'm dealing with the rectangle.
I think the thought process that went into designing the "Glass House", is similar to the thought process that went into designing the "Emperors New Clothes".
“Let’s get Tarkovsky a bit” 😎
That made me smile
Great directing haha
where can I find the full music "last movement of hope"?
I'm searching too
Esto deveria tener millones de vistas
that rotating art collection is kinda like a juke box but with paintings lol
1:10 I am not sure if the typo is intended, but the apostrophe on the "e" is wrong. It's è, not é (in Italian).
"la banana è buona."

Before you show your ignorance, please note that Phillip's house predates the Farnsworth house, just say in.

Then just take Saarinens Miller house 🙂👍.
Nice place, but I felt like he would have died at any moment during the recording of this video.
Any info on the piano piece being played?
"Last Movement of Hope" by Benjamin Clementine
Matt Siegel thank you!
Any idea how to get that piece of music? thnx
I looked for that piece of music by that title for hours and can't find it-- are we sure thats what it is?
I've tried too, without success. It's listed that way in the credits at the very end of the video... but I can't vouch for accuracy. Maybe we can ask Benjamin Clementine, who is supposed to have composed it! :)
Nice house... I think. How much does it cost to heat and cool it?
Quite a bit today, but it was built when heating fuel was dirt cheap.
That was pleasant.
is anyone gonna tell where to get the actual piano song jesus christ wtf nowness. gimmie!
his heavy breathing literally makes me gasp for air! its crazy!
Heart and weight problem
Cliff DaRiff his ego weighs a lot
He is the definition, both physically and ethically, of a "mouth breather."
@@SuperRobertoClemente hold up. are you the artist roberto clemente?
@@drinkingpoolwater I think you are thinking of Francisco Clemente, a painter of Schnabel's generation. As Shaq likes to say, google me.
👍I would love to live in a glass house like this - I think it’ll be like living outside but protected from the elements by living inside. 💞
LovingAtlanta Until you get a hailstorm
Thats!!! Mean - 👍Your name cracks me up. You’re probably right. 😂
Does anyone know what camera Nowness uses to film? I love the whole aesthetic it pulls off!
iedei iedei that’s a non-answer. we all understand what you’re saying. hayden wants a specific model/brand. an arri alexa may just be another camera but compared to a canon 60d... if you had to duel someone wouldn’t you want the 30 round automatic rifle instead of the civil war era 1 shot musket? or is it not about the gun? lol

Ever since I saw the Farnsworth House I love pretending like I know anything about architecture by learning about these kinds of houses
Your honesty is refreshing, 🙂.
Exquisite....perfect☺️
I like him (Julian Schnabel) and I like this little film.
OMG where is this placd on earth?
What bothers me about these glass structures are the amount of songbirds who run into the windows and die - so is it a really a structure within nature?
internet historian would be pleased with your gift
Love his art and his persona!
Nice solar oven.
Wow
I used to play in that house as a boy..
I prefer Johnson's house over Mies's Farnsworth house. But the Barcelona Pavilion is genius.
Speechless!
I imagine this guy is nearly intolerable at a dinner party.
the more you learn about him the worse he gets lmao
Im like, thata cool house. Just wait until a hailstorm
Architectural glass can probably handle a hailstorm.
My dream
Why does he call it glass house?
I love philips house! But this guy ………
Seems like Schnabel sort of plagerised artists of his time, like Basquiat and Salle
The credits (begin and after) are 1/5 the video. BOOOOO!
Schnabel and his self-reverence for his awful art...is amusing I guess.
yeah
CAROL SOLOMON where can I take a look at your awful art?
Blazer with tracks thats my way
he has such an ego...no way to go but he is my friends godfather so i have to appreciate him
NON SOLO LA BANANA E\ BELLA, MA ANCHE IL FILMATO !! THANKS
no walls to hang paintings, yeah.
How did he succeed so greatly in an era of minimalism and academic BS
Doesn’t get any more minimalist than his architecture...what are you even saying
Saint Julian in his own church.

A house, no home
Why?
he lived there
"Soul"... "exists in objects"? What an idiotic comment.
His terms were off, he meant there are objects with such beauty that they move OUR souls.
He didn't wipe his shoes off.
All of this "art" looks like a kid drew them.
He needs exercise!
Talking about things having soul while sitting in sterile cold glass cube. Iam sorry but Morgue is more inviting and cosy then this abomination.
wtf
Great movies, terrible paintings
Those modernist paintings are ugly af 😂
Blech! 🤢🤢🤮🤮
Crap art, nice simple house.
Appalling, dreadful, macabre... just some of the words that come to mind when looking at the awful "house."
Explain why you feel that way.
Boring ugh thats like a prison
That art was horrid
Blech! 🤢🤢🤮🤮
