That's beautiful. His spirit seems quite childlike yet refined at the same time. Awesome to know he's as cool as he seems in this lil film. Idk how I even found these videos...but I LOVE THEM.

I watched this video several years ago and it still holds up in being fantastically inspiring. I like that he buys what he likes and what brings him joy. It doesn't matter whether it came from a thrift shop or a famous artist. I spent years as a professional graphic designer and illustrator and now do abstract paintings and understand how one thing can inspire something totally different in use. Designers and artists find the subtle beauty in things or experiences. It's a winding road of hard work and perseverance and it's the only life a designer knows and can survive within. Never lose that sense of wonder.
I love Paul Smith design. I have bought many of his clothes and accessories over the years. Refined with a daring note and always elegant. Nice to see the man has also a very genuine personality.
I ran into him in a museum in the city of Leiden in 2019. He approached me, asked me to help him download the museum’s application from the AppStore. I obliged, he thanked me for saving an old man, asked me what I thought of the art piece in front of us, we talked for almost half an hour, and we then parted ways. I didn’t even know who he was, until he thanked me for wearing his clothing designs. I didn’t even know what “Paul Smith” is, as the clothes were a gift from a former French lover of mine. Oh gosh, I was so embarrassed hahaha 🤣 and he was unbelievingly kind, down to earth, and both interesting and easy to talk to.
Amazing addition of artwork/ how the journey began fashion and art interesting beautiful art collections beautifully explained accolades / its the eye that catches beauty😊
pamplemousse No, he is a collector, driven first by sight and attraction. HE chooses not to call HIMSELF a collector, based on HIS view and experience. In the 'storing' of his likes, he just has a very common "archival system". It's called, "find a place for it in that room where everything is." I would challenge learning more about the world, and that the trap of applying knee-jerk popular culture labels, is to miss the substance that just might be worth paying attention to, beyond surface reaction. There is always a lot more to people when one takes the time. As the gentleman pointed out, at a young age, his father gave him a camera... What did he say that taught him?
One of my favorite designers! Doesn't surprise me he has such a vast, colorful and unusual collection from so many years and acquaintances. Such a nice pleasant person too. I hope to get to meet him someday!
io ADORO il suo profumo!! ROSE di paul smith!!! IL MIGLIOR PROFUMO CHE IO ABBIA MAI SENTITO NELLA MIA VITA!! IL NUMERO UNOOO!! GRAZIE PER AVERLO CREATO!! COMPREREI TUTTE LE VERSIONI CREATE SE NE AVESSI L'OPPORTUNITà!! in questa presentazione mi sembra una persona così genuina!!
it is so refreshing to know a man who doesn`t need an influencer, a consultant or an advisor to tell him what to like, what to buy and how to live. and yes, people should buy art that pleases them and stop following the market "gurus" and their nonsense.
I agree. You buy art because "you" like it and it speaks to you. Yes, sometime the gas bill will be a month late; but, don't you just enjoy the piece immensely. Lucky you.
I buy old frames in the charity shop and fill them with old labels, post cards, dried leaves , collage anything really and it all goes together. People are generally afraid of being judged on their taste, so fuck judgement, just do it ,,, Love Paul ,,, I see him in Paris on his bike ,,, just a 'bloke' .
Marvellous. I love your clothes, Paul. I have a nice little capsule collection now. Wear your scarves every day - they keep me happy, optimistic and cheerful! Upbeat. You are a fantastic colourist. Sans pareil! I, too, collect pieces of much-loved art. But my late husband was a hoarder, and I have now downsized! Lovely film. Thanks for the clothes, dear Paul. Give me such great pleasure. You are my No.1 favourite designer in the world . I'm a published poet and artist.
My homie Paul got invited to his store opening in LA.No celebrities or step and repeats in front.Just a private invite silk screened on balsa wood. Paul Smith was like hi my name is Paul and this is my store and my friend said my name is Paul too! I love that story.
he's such a gem of a person, worked at his office for a short while and the few times we crossed paths he was nothing but kind and genuine
That is nice to know....
He comes across as a very nice and interesting chap .... Good to hear, he really is.
What did you do?
So rare...you never forget someone like that.....nice wins everyway... anyone who disagrees will eventually realise...

As a teenager I saved up my money so I could buy a Paul Smith blouse! So original and cool.

You can’t compare that art with a museum
A tasteful hoarder.
That's exactly what he is❤️
I wouldn’t call it hoarding. He collects.
