Joey, you are so wrong- if those people say they are African yet live elsewhere else. They abandoned their roots. It does make them less african that's why no one says he's African. Right, but your family's lineage can be British.. making you British in some way regardless if you left or not. It's in your blood. My parents were born in Italy, but I was born in America. I'm American in terms of residence, but I'm Italian in my background/culture. Same difference here. Am I less Italian? I suppose. Am I more Italian than American? Genetically, yes. However, no, some small amount of time doesn't make you something, I agree, but being raised with a specific, rooted culture changes things. They're both African in different ways and in my opinion, it's stupid to dispute. Driscus is doing a great job of diverting the drama to make it seem about land when it was about a comment he literally made. Either way, we seem to agree on parts but not the result. My point is that raised culture = what you are, even if you're not actively there, but you have to have some roots there. This is aside from personal family dramas and purely about the debate of ethnicity, I take no "side."
