In honor of Masayoshi Soken's story and courage, I'll do my best to assure that this video's monetization will go to some good charities. So make sure to watch it a lot and share it with your FFXIV friends! Each time you'll watch it, you'll contribute to having a positive impact on the world. - Once again, a special thanks goes to all the amazing guest singers who took part in this, each of them fantastic in their own way. And even more so to Denmo, who did a formidable job with editing this beast of a video. This project would simply not have been the same without him. Please check the description to find links to both the singers and Denmo's TH-cam channels, they're filled with so much wonder. Some of them even uploaded their own versions of Close In The Distance! And also, a huge thanks also to the 1000+ of you who contributed to our rendition here. I'll try to credit them here in the comments.
CREDITS FOR THE 1000 COMMUNITY CHOIR MEMBERS (Part 1) If you don't see your name here, it's probably because the filename of your submission video did not include it. I went at great lengths to make sure to use EVERYBODY's submissions! However, it can also be the case that the software I used to download all submissions might've dropped some files without me noticing, in which case, sorry about that! That doesn't speak at all about your level of skill. There's been only 3 or 4 submissions that I had to manually remove actually, and it was because the microphone audio was unfortunately completely distorted. Everyone else has been a fundamental part of this, be it for their singing skills or for their raw energy and enthusiasm. A year ago yesterday I woke up in a hospital with no idea how I'd gotten there. I was already pre-ordered for Endwalker and I was praying that the cancer wouldn't kill me before I could be part of it. I'd heard Soken's words and as someone facing that same trial, I took hope from his survival. That day, a year ago, I found out that the cancer *had* killed me. But I faced that bird and told her to back off, it was too soon for my journey to end. I had to relearn how to sit up. How to lift my arms enough to even feed myself. How to stand and walk. So many things we take for granted I had to rebuild from the ground up. All this to say, holy crap the FEELS I get from the expac, the music, the characters, and the fact that they put my character through the same wringer that I'd already been through just to SEE the story. I think that's why it's not letting me go. Why I really don't *want* it to let me go. I want to remember everything. Every blessed, beautiful moment of heartbreak and joy. What y'all have done is amazing and a tribute to the work that the storytellers and developers and everyone have put into making this game, this WORLD that we all love so much. I can readily imagine how editing this together was an epic endeavor itself. My only complaint is that y'all didn't do the whole song. I understand why. *This much alone* was probably an achievement beyond all expectation. But, like the story, I didn't want it to end. Thank the Twelve that one story's ending was the beginning of another.
@@SoraShadowdancer Because I refused to STAY dead. I was also at a hospital when I coded and the medical staff around me were on absolute point. Like, Ultimate Clear good at their jobs. All that wouldn't have helped, though, if I hadn't also been fighting to live.
FF14 is not just the biggest and best MMORPG out there because its a good game. The community is a HUGE part of it as well. Surely there is toxicity. But most people are very nice
@@cherrydragon3120 Not only that but the love the fans put into the community and the game is reciprocated by the team behind it. It is a testament to the game because of that. Personally, I would like to think a small sliver of that backbone is because of Yoshi-P's time in EverQuest. You see, back in early EQ (until around Dragons of Norrath), EQ was a game who was all about community. We had a semi-official fan-led forum for every class where you could go to find tips, tricks and guidance (as well as community) in your class. In game, ESPECIALLY in the earliest days, the game thrived because people worked together generally. We developed (unwritten) rules of conduct. Example: if a group is camping a spawn area, don't pull from it until they are done grinding/farming. Call "Camp check" in /ooc or /shout and if an area isn't announced, have at it! Also, don't train groups or zonelines if possible. Better to die and ask for a rez than wipe out a group who are recovering from a pull. If you HAVE to train (pulling a fuckton of mobs due to random aggro or invis dropping, etc) announce it early and often where you are taking it to so people have a chance to get clear. Etc, etc.
Imagine beign such a fucking moron thinking that this was organic and not a compeltely planned corporate ad for idiots like you to think streamers are altruistic and not whoring for views at the expense of somebody's health condition.
Susan Calloway?!? Amanda Achen??!? J'NIQUE NICOLE????!!?! that's amazing that they agreed to lend their voice for this! and hat's off to you alex and the rest of the team for putting this together!
When you see the singers who sang Answers/Dragonsong , Weight of the world , Flow/Tomorrow and Tomorrow among the guest ... You know the song will hit harder than a thousand trucks
2 weeks of straight editing and 900 videos later. I can only imagine how hard the audio side was. Thanks Alex again for letting me be part of another dream project!!
I want see to Masayoshi Soken and Yoshi-P’s reaction to THIS version of Close in the Distance. I know they are aware of the impact FFXIV has made on so many people, however, I’m not positive that they truly understand just how much. This song was my guiding light. In many ways still is. I lost my grandmother on Nov 23. 2021; it was devastating for me. As long time FFXIV player (Day 1 on PS3) I eagerly waited the release of Endwalker. I just wanted something to hide in, to forget all of the pain I was feeling…. Unfortunately Endwalker kind of exasperated everything, but I pushed through, all the way Ultima Thule where all that pain came back in full force. Close in The Distance helped overcome my grief. It helped me guide through all that pain and though I still miss my grandmother, I know she is in a better place. This rendition of Close in The Distance is amazingly beautiful and well deserved among collaborations of one of the greatest fan base and communities ever to exist. Alex Moukala and all that helped make this rendition a reality, Thank You. FFXIV and the Community. Yoshi-P, Masayoshi Soken and all of the devs and creators that worked on Final Fantasy XIV, you will have my eternal gratitude. For if it wasn’t for you, I would still be lost in that grief. One day, I hope to be able meet Yoshi-P and Masayoshi Soken and express my gratitude, like I said: Thank You Siege Rhayne of Lamia
Dude I also lost my grandma, not long bevor end walker came out. It broke her husband and it broke me that I couldn't help at all. Neither him, not my crying mother not myself. I managed to lock away every last bit of pain deep inside me, I was strong for everyone just to cry my eyes out when I was alone. But I tried not to even then. I had to be strong. Even when it meant to abandon every emotion. I felt sich but that was nesecary for me. Ultima Thule and this song broke me in the middle of the night, waking my husband and let him find everything I was hiding and holding back for months. Well although I know it's not good for me, I continued to be strong for my family but I started to talk about my own pain with my sister and husband. I started to move on though I'm far away of accepting her very sudden death.
@@ShanaAbee I think that’s the glory of Endwalker and all of this really. Though we lost those we love, we get to remember them, always. Close in the Distance is such a great song and as I said above, it helped me come to clarity in a sense. My sympathies for your loss. Please remember, as I have found out the hard way as I too tend to bottle things up and be that pillar that everyone needs at that time; don’t forget about yourself. Don’t forget to take a step back and breathe. Trust me it’s hard. As of tomorrow, I’ll be a 38 yr old man, raised to be a strong beacon for my family and friends. To be their hero in a sense. All I can say is, it sucks, hard! You know your limits and your strengths. Never be afraid to use to guide you to happier times and beyond. It’s hard. Really hard to put yourself first at times but we are no good to anyone if we can’t stand up for ourselves. Friends and family can wait if needed. Just make sure you heal yourself. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me. I know when I wrote my piece above it was hard, difficult to put myself out there in the public like that, but I’ve learned that there are more people like me and especially within the FFXIV Community that want nothing but love, happiness, respect and to game, just like the rest of here. Be kind to yourself and take care. You sound like an amazing person and I hope you continue to strive to be one.
My condolences, I've been through that recently too and it hurts. Endwalker must have been brutal for you to get through on those emotions, but I'm glad the ending of it was that much more impactful for it, and that it was able to help you through it.
I believe, at least Yoshi-P understands how much this game means to and has impacted people, especially since he was close friends with Maidy - the original creator of Dad of Light.
This took 3 weeks and I dunno if anyone cares but I just realized that this song can basically be described as a message FROM those we have lost, and TO those we can yet save.
Words can't describe how exciting and joyful it is to sing alongside so many amazing individuals. The FFXIV community is truly amazing. A masterpiece. Thank you, Alex🖤
This, this absolutely destroyed me. When I sent in my submission, I was in the worst emotional state I've been in in years. I'd lost my relationship, my entire circle of friends, my body and weight dysphoria were at an all-time high, and I could barely find the will to look at myself in the mirror, much less enjoy Endwalker. The expansion is still hard to go back and appreciate because of how down in the dumps I was when playing through it. When you put out the call for this video, Alex, the thought that I might be part of something bigger, even if just a cover song on the internet, was what I needed to keep going. I took take after take trying to get my notes down right, despite having utterly no training as a singer, or confidence in my voice. I deleted so many takes because I'd broken down sobbing mid-note. When I sent in my submission with the video of my WoL, I included a note, assuring that it was alright not to include it if the footage didn't fit the video, I was so sure that he wouldn't show up, and I was okay with that, because I was so blown away by this video. Then, with the pull-away at the end, espying those familiar horns, his skintone, haircolor, the headpiece he wore- Realizing that was him, that was my boy, 'me' in as close of a sense as was possible herein? I don't know what to say. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. This game has always touched me emotionally in a way that I can't quite explain coherently, but this- I feel like a part of the game's legacy in a way I never have before, I feel validated, and accepted in ways I haven't in so long. I feel like maybe, just a little, I matter too. I know mine was just one random submission of a thousand, but thank you, Alex So much.
As one of the legacy players, this made me cry. How much I'll leave up to your imagination, but I can say without shame that it's because the dev team showed us that they truly cared about this game, and was willing to pour their life into making it good. From the rebirth at the end of Meteor, to the journey to world's end, they made themselves a part of the community; they heard our voices, felt our frustrations and joys, and carefully thought what would make the best player experience. They poured their heart and soul into this game, showing that this game was not merely a product for profit. No, this was a work of passion, something that is meant to be a magnum opus for everyone on the team. And we as a community has reciprocated that love back. How many hours has gone into carefully crafting your Warrior of Light's glamour into making it as perfect as it can be? How many dungeons and raids have you ran, with friends and strangers, veterans and novices? How many conversations and arguments did you have with the rest of the community over the lore, in poring over the minute details that tie together, only to be blindsided by a revelation that came to you in an instant? How many tears have you shed, as the story took you through moments of highs and lows, from your greatest triumphs to your worst failures and back? Some day, XIV's servers will shut down, and people would forget that there was once this magical place where we made our first steps into the world of Eorzea. But until then, and every day afterwards, I will forever remain a proud Warrior of Light, Sword and Shield of Eorzea and member of this amazing community.
i‘m not a legacy player and FFXIV is my first MMO ever, but all i can say is: indeed. i spent over 6000 hours in this game the last 2 years and i‘m thankful for this game.
I could not think of a better MMO to be my first than FFXIV. I've made so many friends, gone on so many adventures. I'll be looking forward to where we go from here and looking back fondly on where we've been. This game truly is one of a kind and I can't think of a better community to be in than this one
Me: OK, I think I am finally at a point where Close in the Distance is not going to destroy me every time I hear it. Alex: Don't worry I'll fix that. But seriously this is just something so special I don't even have the adjectives for it and I was not prepared for it. Thank you to everyone involved in this.
Made worse (or BETTER) with every heart-wrenching moment since the beginning... I need to play new game plus, because I didn't realize there were so many. Anger, sorrow, laughing... This game is wonderful.
Wow this turned out so beautifully! I am honored to have been apart of such an amazing project. Everyone did a wonderful job contributing. Thank you so much for the opportunity! 🙏🏾💕
I don’t know if Alex or anyone else will ever see this long comment since it’s been so long but here it goes I struggle with depression like many people in the world. I take my meds and do my best to get through the day. Despite that I fell into a deep pit of it starting this past fall and winter and one of the few things I enjoyed, playing FFXIV with my friends I had made online, couldn’t break me out of it and I stopped playing. That was 9 months ago. I’m only just seeing this video today and I’m not ashamed to admit I’m crying after watching it, but more importantly seeing the 1000 voices of member of the community come together for something so beautiful has reminded me of why I played in the first place. I think it’s time I logged back in Thank you Alex and everyone who contributed to this
@@GhettoBagel things have been much better thank you for asking! It’s definitely one of those things that requires constant work but it’s definitely worth it. I haven’t been playing as much as I used to, mostly due to a new job that keeps me busy pretty much all the time, but I have been logging in much more frequently. And I have to say, reconnecting with my friends as well as making new ones has been really great ya know? Hope you this reply finds you healthy, happy, and free of rage quit inducing PF raids 😆
@@CEN-Tyra as someone with uncurable clinica depression (was born without one of the happy hormones, so I struggle to be happy in the first place), seeing projects like this brings some warmth, bc it makes you realize you are not alone. Hey there, friend. I hope you're doing well, and I hope you enjoyed yourself after picking the game back up. :) Your comment and story is just as important as the rest, don't worry about being overlooked or forgotten.
This song helps me anytime I think about the relatives I’ve lost and never had a chance to say goodbye. I know that if I keep in my memory they’ll always be there to remind me of how special they were and still are to me, grief does many things a person but remembrance helps me feel better. Life may be fleeting and be painful but always keep those who guided you forward into the ever present dawn ahead.
Alex! How epic and special is this?! What an honor to be a part of such an inimitable community! Thanks for all you do, for bringing us all together, and for the work involved in creating this! You rock my friend!
The honor was mine to be able to work together with you! Your voice added something truly unique here, and to Final Fantasy XIV itself. I'm grateful for that inspiration you carry in those notes!

This is a literal "Do not despair. You are not without allies." moment also my dude. Watched a fair few of your vids but this one has earned you a sub. Perfection
I come back to this every now and again, and every time that chorus hits with everyone joining in, I'm a crying wreck. It's a a real, tangible example of "everyone in the world's prayers are with you" and it always hits like a train.
Some people *feel* music, not just hear it... The first person to explain that to me, to show me what that meant, was my Mother. For her, it was gospel, "How Great Thou Art" in particular. The sound of a choir, rising up, in reverence or joy, together, will always be a special sound to me because of that. She passed at the end of May, 30 days after her 64th birthday, and I was Not ready for something to sucker punch me with the same cold chills Mom spoke of, and to look down at my arm in the middle of listening to an audio and see them on my skin, too. I would give a lot, in honesty, to be able to share this with her-- with the one who showed me to *feel*, and not just hear, the voices of others. And I can't send it to the one person who I know would understand the sudden chill I got from this, because even if she didn't understand why... she'd understand the power of it. Because music means different things, to different people, and I know she would understand that. So, from someone who's been on this journey since Final Fantasy XI, who felt Endwalker a bit too deeply, and who needed this far more than she wants to admit... Thank you, Mr. Moukala, for putting this together. And to the others, who may or may not ever scroll past this; who needed a song to remind them, to always keep going, even when it's hard... The sun will shine again, so always, *always*, forge ahead, 'til the end.
The hour is at hand! Behold but a sliver of our god's power! And from the deepest pit of twitter hell to the very pinnacle of youtube, the world shall sob with cathartic release! Unleash Ultima!
"If you had the strength to take another step, would you do it?" *Smiles* "What, all by myself?" Thank you everyone who worked and sing in this cover. You guys rock!
In my opinion, Endwalker is truly the greatest achievement of songwriting and storytelling in MMO history. To see all that beauty and heart expressed through the community is a testament to it as a masterpiece. This expansion was a profound and healing journey for many of us who have lost some of the most important people in our lives, a cathartic and important journey of discovery and acceptance and appreciation. Thank you.
I’ll go a step further and say it’s the greatest achievement of songwriting and storytelling in not just mmo history but gaming history in general. FFXIV in general is one of the greatest games ever made
What I loved most about Endwalker is that it completed the Journey. I've been with FFXIV since 1.0, and been there for all the struggles both in the game and the real world. And Endwalker nicely brought that whole long, winding journey together and brought it to a satisfying conclusion. It's a complete, satisfying story, and even as we move on to new ones, this journey will always be able to stand on its own.
You mean possibly the greatest collection of artists, musicians, writers and programmers to create the greatest collective piece of art in human history?
I am broken. I literally just lost my father to cancer yesterday and watching this, looking at the memories and listening to the lyrics... It's all taken together beautiful. I should take another step. But right now... I'm just going to relisten, reminisce and cry a bit.
There's plenty of time to take that step and it's okay to idle a little bit. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. My condolences go out to you and the family 💙
I know this was a year ago, but I just found it now, so I want to say. I'm sure you took that step and I'm sure it was the hardest thing ever, but may you continue walking knowing that you carry on the memories now, and I hope you look back and smile and feel joy because it happened not pain because it is gone.
When everyone's voices kick in on the chorus... GOD... It really does feel like that's what our WoLs heard as they ascended Ultima Thule at the end :'') absolutely phenomenal; thank you for letting us be a part of it!
One thing I love about this somg is that the title has a double meaning. It's both about the WoLs journey being close to it's end as well as about closing in the distance between you and Endsinger's nest.

Man! Susan Calloway, Amanda Achen and J'Nique Nicole?! What a treat!!! It was such an honor to take part of this. I can't imagine how much work it took to put this together, thank you so much for forging ahead with it! Now I'm gonna go cry some tears of happiness for the rest of the day.
I was completely shocked and awed to see them. I mean, Amanda Achen's done a lot of stuff with the community so that was less of a surprise, but I did NOT expect to see Susan Calloway and J'Nique Nicole. So damn cool.
Tell me. For whom do you sing? Hmph! How very glib. And do you believe in Eorzea? Eorzea's unity is forged of choirs. Its city-states are built on bass. And its faith is an instrument of crescendo. It is naught but a cobweb of cacophony. To believe in Eorzea is to believe in emotion. In Eorzea, the beast tribes often summon gods to sing in their stead--though your comrades only rarely respond in kind. Which is strange, is it not? Are the "Twelve" otherwise engaged? I was given to understand they were your vocalists. If you truly believe them your choir, why do you not repeat the concert that served you so well at Carteneau, and call them down? They will answer--so long as you lavish them with money and gorge them on albums. Your gods are no different than those of the beasts--vocalists every one. Accept but this, and you will see how Eorzea's music is crying the land dry. Nor is this unknown to your masters. Which prompts the question: Why do they cling to these falsettos? What drives even men of learning--even the great Louisoix--to dance at their feet? The answer? Your masters lack the vocals to do otherwise! For the music of man to mean anything, man must own the music. To this end, he hath sung ever to raise himself through concerts--to grow rich through music tours. And when the dust of cheers settles, is it ever the strong who dictate the fate of the weak. Knowing this, but a single path is open to the impotent singer--that of false vocals. A path which leads to enervation and death. Only a man of power can rightly steer the course of civilization. And in this land of creeping auto-tune, that one truth will prove its salvation. Come, musician of Eorzea, face me! Your defeat shall serve as proof of my readiness to play! It is only right that I should take your songs. For none among you has the prowess to stop me!
This is the video that got me off my backside and made me book in for my first appointment for my XIV tattoo sleeve. It got finished in December, a little over a year after i got it started, and it's now the favourite part of my body. It covers my scars, and reminds me to forge ahead no matter what's in my way.
I...my grandfather is in the hospital right now. We were told this morning that he has aggressive cancer and they can't do anything; he only has a short time left. I've already lost three other family members (of varying ages) to cancer. I was very close to each of them...i'm not even sure what to say anymore. This disease is truly despair incarnate. But this video happened at a time when I really needed it. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone involved. It's hard to describe, but everyone's voices, feeling that warmth and connection that we all share. It means so much, and reminds you that you're not alone in your struggles. A reminder we all need more than ever right now. May each and every one of you ever walk in the light of the crystal 💖
The limit break bar filling to 3 and everyone singing in unison was a nice touch. I broke down same way when I first heard it after graha's turn. I just wish I could of submitted my own into the mix alas I didn't have the time or know how. We are not alone no matter what we feel we are never alone.
Funny how this wonderful release coincides with someone cutting onions, many of them... Thank you Alex, this is beautiful. To FFXIV and its wonderful community, forge ahead.
Thank you very much for all the hard work on this Alex. You’re genuinely one of the kindest person I know and it shows in your music and arrangements. It’s always a pleasure working with you. And many thanks to everybody who wholeheartedly contributed on this ^^
Saaaaaaaaaame I Was in the middle of washing a pup and I felt like my heart shattered and was filled with love all in one moment I started having a sobbing fit.
Lost a friend and colleague unexpectedly to cancer this morning (after months of remission, she went into fulminant liver failure). After a break from FFXIV, I forgot how deep to the core this song hit me during my play through. Stumbled upon this now and I feel like I am actually able to process the sobering shock of my loss. All the tears and feels - all cathartic. This community is truly a blessing. Thank you for this beautiful masterpiece. The sun will shine again.
The rains have ceased, we have been graced another beautifull day, but you're not here to see it. Just remember, remember she once lived alright mate :) Keep strong.
As a Tolkien fan, I remember vividly that in the end of the times Illuvatar and his children will all sing together one last song to close it up. The feels seeing something so MAJESTIC like this makes me wonder how strong all of our voices are together. The weight of a thousand voices feels heavy, but yet you can watch on.
Is anyone else still here almost 2 years later? I have listened to so many different covers and versions of this song, but none of them hit anywhere near as hard as this one does anymore. Much love to everyone! See you in Dawntrail!
I wanted to write a long message to convey my many feelings towards this game, this specific song, and this community work. It's been almost 7 years since I first played FFXIV. Finally completed Endwalker a few days ago. I'll just say : Thanks to the FFXIV team for having made such an awesome game and story, and thanks to the community for this masterpiece, that brings even more closure to this epic.
Oh my goodness! I did not expect to see J'nique! The mad man really made a LEGIT "Weight of the World" for FFXIV, like the staff did for the end credits in Nier Automata! Outstanding work to everyone involved! 👏
I'm struggling to form the words in order to convey how much this helped me today. My mother passed away just recently and I've been grieving and processing it all with my father at home. We both have a lot to overcome in the near future; and this not only got me bursting into tears while listening and thinking of my mom, but gave me hope that my Dad and I can get through everything together and with the help of our friends and family. Thanks for this. This was beautifully made! Don't ever stop doing what you love and do best, and this goes for everyone reading this.
I'm really sorry. It's always heartbreaking when parent passes... I experienced it some time ago too. It was also my mum. You can trust me on this... it'll get better. You will need time. Few months, maybe even a year - but you will get there. Your mum is still with you - but in a different way. Take care ♡
I do not know if this will ever be read by anyone. But I wanted to say thank you for this beautiful collab. Thank you to all the singers. I always coming back to this video to find the strength that i lost again. It is amazing and outworldly beautiful. It is something to give strength for people, who have lost their way in darkness and despair. With Panic Attacks, Anxiety and depression it is hard to hold onto hope. Thank you for making this.
That moment with the 1000 singers, that was incredible. I'm so glad I was a part of it. Thank you so much Alex for working so tirelessly on this and getting some incredible singers in to be our backbone and support. Lost my mind seeing Susan and Amanda in song together. And I honestly hope the both of them get a song in FF14 together one day!
As a legacy player since day 1 and has to restart, this literally gave me chills and brought me to tears. This game has been there to help me through many dark times and the community has always been like a family to me. This is literally amazing and I’m so thankful it happened.
i had a best friend called Peter. he was the one who broght me to ff14 ages ago. december 2022 he passad away from a heart condition and he loved ff14 with all his heart. this song for me is a tribute for the friend he was... everytime i head this i get really emotional. i have to admit, i was never a huge fan of FF franchise but i did learned the importance of friendship because of him. I really miss Peter and i hope wherever he is he is watching over us and helping me pushing forward. sorry for bring this up.
"Yours is a long road my friend. And it stretches on to places beyond imagining. With your every step, thse grand adventures shall grow more distant and faint. And there may come a day when you forget the faces and voices of those you've met along the way. On that day, I bid you, remember this...No matter how far your journey may take you, you stand where you stand by virtue of the road you walked to get there. For in times of hardship, when you fear you cannot go on... The joy you have known, the pain you have felt, the prayers you have whispered and answered - they shall ever be your strength and your comfort. This I hope - I believe, here at memory's end...." Thank you Alex and everyone for this!!!!! Wish I could've been a part of it
"Zepla- Streamer, Heart of the FFXIV Community" that is so cute and sweet, i love it. i love the whole thing, honestly, but that little description stood out to me. she really is a huge part of the community, i think she was the first ffxiv content creator i found.
I teared up a little bit...she is not a professional like Susan or Amanda, but it was like she was singing our part in this song as an ambassador of the ffxiv community.
I am in tears. I was so honored to be able to sing my part, and terrified of it. I saw myself in there, surrounded by so many other people, and on a night when I truly felt alone, and honestly hopeless, this brought me a massive amount of hope and reminded me I'm NOT alone, and reminded me what the FFXIV story has been all about. Thank you for this, for allowing me to be included, and for all the amazing work you did. It was beautiful. Thank you.
"If you had the strength to take another step, could you do it ?" I never played FFXIV. I know a bit about the story but not much details. But one thing for sure is that I'm a huge fan of the soundtrack. And I'm also a huge fan of your work Alex, you are an incredible artist and I'm always mind-blown by your musical ability. This video takes everything to the next level. You surrounded yourself with beautiful people and beautiful voices for that one-of-a-kind performance that I got on repeat since this afternoon. It's gut-wrenching and it makes me cry, for real. I'm in a weird mental place right now and that's probably why this song is hitting so hard. I don't know if you'll read this, or if any people that were in the video will but one thing I can say for sure is thank you. Thank you for such a bundle of emotions. That's why I love music, it brings you somewhere that nothing else in the world have the power to do. And you know what ? I will make the other step. I'm not always having the strength to do it, but I will do it !
"If you had the strength to take another step, could you do it?" That line comes from Shadowbringers. Ardbert says it to you right as you're about to break. The scene will make your heart burst wide open. Though, should you want something truly hitting? Search for Matsya and the babe. The only scene in any game that made me forget how to breathe and then everything just slides into place and you're screaming to Hydaelyn herself!
@@sitnspin1819 That line meant a lot to me as well as I watched each of the other Scions get wiped from existence. It really did take everything I had just to continue.
@@agamerspovlive5063 Shadowbringers and Endwalker are both works of art, pal. Pure, undiluted art, and if Soken doesn't win Best Game Music award? I will riot!
@@sitnspin1819 speaking of which, has anyone heard about whether or not they're putting endwalker on spotify because I really don't make the money needed to buy the album.
Used this, to end an almost 5 year long dnd campaign, which took heavy inspiration from FFXIV and featured our characters. Tears were falling. Hugs were all around. And yes, we all sang right along. Absolutely amazing work. And I hope to see even more amazing work in the adventures that are ahead of us.
The week before you made the call to the community to lend you our voices, I came down with one of the worst fevers I've ever had and it left my voice ruined for weeks. I wanted to submit my voice to the choir, and while I could mostly still sing in key I was just too raspy and gravelly to confidently submit my recording - I was utterly heartbroken. Instead, I give you my like and my appreciation for the amazing work you and thousands of people put into this, however little that might amount to. Thank you Alex, and thank you to everyone who could lend their voice when I simply couldn't.
This made me super emotional. It really shows just how many people have been touched by this game, this community, this story. It means so much to so many people, me among them. I cry when I think of so many of the moments through this amazing story, but I always try to remind myself... A smile better suits a hero.
OMG, what is this?! Is like right at the moment you get to "Tales of Lost, of Fire and Faith..." you are squeezing my heart with memories and emotions, seriously. This was amazing!
I come back to this video every now and then because it's one of the most incredible examples of a community coming together. This song has resonated with me even more the past year since I lost my mother. It reminds me that I have to keep pushing ahead not just for myself, but for her and those around me. It has been an indescribably difficult time, but I'm taking it a step at a time. May you all continue to walk in the light of the crystal, and I'll be seeing you in the New World this summer.
When I say the tears were flowing when everyone is brought in I feel like that is an understatement. The way I felt the emotion well up inside me. This is powerful.
I'M NOT CRYING! YOU'RE CRYING! T_T This was so damn good! If they're able to, I hope they can somehow use this in the finale for Endwalker, like the final final credits before 7.0!

It was an honor to be a part of this. Such a beautiful project. Thank you Alex!
This whole compilation is AMAZING, I keep coming back to it, especially when I feel down. It is an amazing feeling of hope and perseverance. Sometimes I listen to it and remember that I’m part of something, that I’m worth something. So many times in my life it’s been so hard to go on, but I always remember that I have the strength to take one more step.
WELL, *checks that servers aren't currently overflowing* if you ever find yourself with up to a few hundred hours of free time, the FFXIV free trial comes with the base game, A Realm Reborn, and critically acclaimed first expansion, Heavenward, with no restrictions on play time, up to level 60 in all classes on a single character. Ya'know, if you're interested.
The community always appears so perfect to the outsider, then you actually play the game and you find that the majority are cringy mentally ill insecure retards who treat the game like a glorified second life and can't accept any other game is better than theirs. They suck at taking criticism and are overly sensitive as well.
I think what hits so hard about this chorus version of this song is that it takes a song where you feel isolated, and it builds up over time to make you feel that solitude (and yet know you're not alone and are carrying the hopes and dreams of everyone), and it makes it feel like every single person you've lost on this journey, including people you barely met back in ARR, is singing from the Aetherial Sea to encourage the Warrior of Light.
This has been a long time coming, if i'm right about this, Zepla was still at home singing her part, so it must have been at least 4 months and change, more like 6ish. Awesome work, Alex. Thank you !!
About a year ago, my wife and I lost our daughter. It was the worst day of my life, a day that broke me. Even now, with a beautiful six month old daughter bringing me joy, that event is with me. Endwalker reached into my soul and spoke to the depths of darkness and depression and brokenness I struggled with in the aftermath of that loss. The story moved me to tears many times, especially as Close In the Distance played in my character’s walk up to the final conflict. Now here I am, moved once more to tears by this incredible rendition of my favorite song in the entirety of FFXIV. Thank you
Just recently lost a close friend of mine. 8 days ago. Used to play FFXIV with her all the time, and more recently moved back to WoW. My first experiences for endwalker were with her. We talked about the quests as we did them, even if we weren’t in a party. This song made both her and I break down originally in the game. Hell, this version made me cry more than a few times a month or two ago. Revisiting now, it really hits close to home even now. Even if I’m not constantly playing FFXIV, the community, the story, and the devs all hold a special place in my heart.
Yep. I cried. I’ve never felt this level of community and emotion from a video games before. Thank you for creating the content you have and contributing to this whole thing that we all share.
I cry every time, meme aside. The one video I can cry of joy in silence with the resounding unison of all those vocals singing at once. I personally hadn’t had anything bad in my life, fortunate I am, but this soundtrack is still so empowering and emotion-driving. Even showed it to my sibling who knows knowing about FFXIV and she could feel the tears coming in. Thanks Square.
I'm usually the silent type person on TH-cam... but watching, hearing THIS? Couldn't stay silent. FFXIV made me believe in so many things, I met some many friends, love, sadness, joy, so many emotions through this story, It has changed my life forever. And this video, is like a piece of Heavens that came to rock us tenderly. I could talk all day about all I hear and saw in this but I just want to say thank you. To you, to all the people who worked on this, to all of them who worked on FFXIV that I love from deep inside my heart for ever and ever. Hearing so many beautiful voices made me tear up, especially when all the voices hit.... It's like a Love Song for the game from all the ones who loves it deeply ! I think I lost it completely when you wrote the line of Ardbert "If you had the strength to take another step, could you do it?" and then it slowly fades to Soken for whom I cried even more at the end of the Fan Festival Livestream... Man. My little heart is blissed. THANK YOU T_T
Never in my life have I cried as much to a video game than I have to Final Fantasy XIV and this one video has made me cry the most. The original by Soken-San and sung by Jason, by itself is a masterpiece, but this rendition takes it even farther and brings more feeling and emotion from being sung by not only the community, but also sung by Susan who represents the past and rebirth of our home, and Amanda who represents the present and the many adventures we have yet to experience. Everyone involved did such an expellant job and I'm sure Soken-san is grinning from ear to ear, listening to this on repeat, and shedding plenty of tears of joy. You are all truly the Warriors of Light
I have this on repeat right now. Close in the Distance is my absolute favourite song. It means so much to me, like FFXIV means so much to me. By the time all the singers started singing I was bawling my eyes out. Thank you so much for this beautiful version. I wish I could have seen the callout for this, I would have liked to send something in too. I'm so proud to be part of the ffxiv community, even if I mostly just play the game, and write stories and share screenshots on my tumblr and twitter.
Instant reminder of best FFXIV moment, last walk just emotionally destroyed me at midnight, was crying till 4am... And when all the voices came together just goosebumps
In honor of Masayoshi Soken's story and courage, I'll do my best to assure that this video's monetization will go to some good charities.
So make sure to watch it a lot and share it with your FFXIV friends! Each time you'll watch it, you'll contribute to having a positive impact on the world.

Once again, a special thanks goes to all the amazing guest singers who took part in this, each of them fantastic in their own way.

If you don't see your name here, it's probably because the filename of your submission video did not include it.

Damn, I really wanted to partake in this but didn't have three space to do so, this sounds amazing and I love what you've done for our community. I love ff14❤️
Aw a bit disappointed my entry didn't make the final cut, but the final piece is absolutely beautiful. Incredible work, Alex!

"So long as you harbor love for the world, there will allways be a place for you in it." -Naoki Yoshida
Thank you, Yoshi P.
Did he really say this? I can't seem to find the quote online. Nonetheless it's beautiful and impactful ;-;
@@lukefehrwight2187 He did in the last annual Rising event, durring the cutscene with the Wandering Minstrel where he talks to the player and thanks them for being part of Eorzea.
“I faced that bird and told her to back off.” Damn. That brought a tear to my eye
Iam glad your still here with us. Stay healthy. Greets from the Netherlands
If the cancer killed you how are you still here?
@@SoraShadowdancer I think they meant the cancer is terminal.
@@SoraShadowdancer Because I refused to STAY dead. I was also at a hospital when I coded and the medical staff around me were on absolute point. Like, Ultimate Clear good at their jobs. All that wouldn't have helped, though, if I hadn't also been fighting to live.
Imagine reaching a fanbase so deeply that they collaborate in a singalong to one of your songs..... incredible
Incredible job!
My man, thank you for making this game even more special with your voice! 🙏🏾
thank you so much for the peerless original version
Great job to you also. Its amazing xx
Thank you so much for all the amazing music and all the tears shed over the years. You know how to deliver both hype and emotions.

Denmo, you are a God damn legend for being able to edit this. Respect to you and everyone else involved.
One day, I hope to be able meet Yoshi-P and Masayoshi Soken and express my gratitude, like I said: Thank You
Siege Rhayne of Lamia
@@kalibertotal9735 can you link that?
That's cool. My eyes needed watering anyway
In all seriousness though, I love this realisation. Thank you for sharing.

I know mine was just one random submission of a thousand, but thank you, Alex
So much.
I understand the pain of dysphoria. Do not despair, you are not without allies. Much love, Alaaran ♥
I’m glad you’re here with us.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for keep forging ahead. You are the Warrior of Light we need.
You matter! Thank you for being apart of our community ❤
2 years later I still get teared up on the chorus.
And why isn't this at 1 million + views yet?
Well said. Reminds me of the Exarch's final monologue just before the end of 5.3.

I don’t know if Alex or anyone else will ever see this long comment since it’s been so long but here it goes
I struggle with depression like many people in the world.
I think it’s time I logged back in
Thank you Alex and everyone who contributed to this
I hope things have gotten better for you, bud. Did you ever end up getting back into the game?
@@GhettoBagel things have been much better thank you for asking! It’s definitely one of those things that requires constant work but it’s definitely worth it.

You rock my friend!
and thank you Amanda and all the other amazing vocalists of course for providing us with your incredible voices and breathing life in to these songs x
The honor was mine to be able to work together with you!
Your voice added something truly unique here, and to Final Fantasy XIV itself. I'm grateful for that inspiration you carry in those notes!
You are AMAZING!!!!
your voice never fails to hit me right in the fucking feels. absolutely amazing
it'd be so awesome if you ever did a full release of your part in this! it sounded so good. its so cool seeing other singers who've done songs for SE do their spin on the songs.
As a person with a disability that keeps me house bound a lot, this game has given me life, friends, and community - this brought tears to my eyes

If ff14 is so good why did asmongold not play it for 10 months ? But still manages to log in wow almost everyday even after his moma died?

also my dude.

Thank you everyone who worked and sing in this cover.
My condolences go out to you and the family 💙
stay strong and I'm sorry for your lost.
This was such an honor to be apart of. This gave me legit goosebumps Alex! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
My man, you brought a lot of grit and emotion here. Thank you!!
I want to like your comment, but it has 69 likes already and if I know anything about my fellow FFXIV players they're about as mature as I am.

Thanks again for your help with mixing this madness! haha
Mixing 1000+ voices is mind blowing! Phenomenal work! 👏
Seeing your name was such a pleasant surprise!!
Kyah Aruvn! Would've loved you singing with them! But nevertheless, you all did fantastic 😍
Showing Emet-Selch over the words "Don't look back" just breaks my heart again
One thing I love about this somg is that the title has a double meaning. It's both about the WoLs journey being close to it's end as well as about closing in the distance between you and Endsinger's nest.
"That which lives is destined to die. Love leads to loss. Every beginning has an end. Treasure every moment, every step of your descent, and there in the depths where souls and stars rest... find your truth." - Emet Selch
I KNOW RIGHT, this reminds me so much like Nier Automata Weight Of The World
"Such inspiriation... this *was* my intention." - Alex Moukala 2022
Nice one good sire

The Soken dedication, ah man, I'm crying ... I can't imagine how it makes him feel
Take care ♡
Stay strong mate, lost both my parents not that long ago. It gets better, eventually.
My father passed away recently as well. Final fantasy was the escape and solace that I needed to heal. I understand my friend.

Lost my mind seeing Susan and Amanda in song together. that is so cute and sweet, i love it. i love the whole thing, honestly, but that little description stood out to me. she really is a huge part of the community, i think she was the first ffxiv content creator i found.
I teared up a little bit...she is not a professional like Susan or Amanda, but it was like she was singing our part in this song as an ambassador of the ffxiv community.

I don't know if you'll read this, or if any people that were in the video will but one thing I can say for sure
is thank you. Thank you for such a bundle of emotions. That's why I love music, it brings you somewhere that nothing else in the world have the power to do. And you know what ?
I will make the other step. I'm not always having the strength to do it, but I will do it !
"If you had the strength to take another step, could you do it?"
That line comes from Shadowbringers. Ardbert says it to you right as you're about to break. The scene will make your heart burst wide open. Though, should you want something truly hitting? Search for Matsya and the babe. The only scene in any game that made me forget how to breathe and then everything just slides into place and you're screaming to Hydaelyn herself!
Good time to get into it. Main arc is over and a new one is slated to begin.

Instead, I give you my like and my appreciation for the amazing work you and thousands of people put into this, however little that might amount to. Thank you Alex, and thank you to everyone who could lend their voice when I simply couldn't.
Alex bringing together the community, a revolutionary ✊
Haha but for real, well done mate.
When the FFXIV community comes together to unleash a LB4 of pure FEELS.
This is beautiful, as a musician my ears and I are sobbing at the beauty.
I DON'T EVEN PLAY THIS GAME!!! but the power of the community, and the love that they have for this game man...ITS ALL SO MOVING!

What’s holding you back? ^_^ come give Eorzea a try =)
Whelp....I didn't know I needed a complete emotional breakdown at work this morning listening to this with tears all over my desk. Thanks. lol.
Thank you
it's the little things that makes life worth living don't you think?!
You're so right :)
Indeed
Just recently lost a close friend of mine. 8 days ago. Used to play FFXIV with her all the time, and more recently moved back to WoW. My first experiences for endwalker were with her. We talked about the quests as we did them, even if we weren’t in a party. This song made both her and I break down originally in the game. Hell, this version made me cry more than a few times a month or two ago. Revisiting now, it really hits close to home even now. Even if I’m not constantly playing FFXIV, the community, the story, and the devs all hold a special place in my heart.
I hope the teams at SE, Yoshi-P, Soken, everyone gets to see this performance!
Soken retweeted it so I'm sure he showed the crew.
Yep.
I can't stop listening to this, everyone did such a great job. Eventually I'll be able to listen without tearing up.
I have this on repeat right now. Close in the Distance is my absolute favourite song. It means so much to me, like FFXIV means so much to me. By the time all the singers started singing I was bawling my eyes out. Thank you so much for this beautiful version.
