It is crazy that there are only four comments on such an incredible recorded version of this song. this is amazing.

And "they" say Beethoven didn't write well for the voice! Doesn't that make you want to laugh after hearing something as supremely beautiful as this?
The loss early in life of Herr Wunderlich was one of the greatest tragedies of the twentieth century. I will never forget his performance of Lensky's aria from Eugene Onegin as line as I live. No greater lyric tenor has ever lived.

Perfection, very rarely can a voice bring so much life to such incredible music. This is by far without doubt one of my favorite pieces of music for voice, and by far without any shadow of doubt Wunderlich's glorious voice is my personal favorite, what a brilliant and perfect singer in every way, the colours in each phrase, the texture and the perfect resonance to each word. It's seamless and so gorgeous and utterly satisfying !

An amazing technician was our Fritz. This was live, too, by the sound of the cough just over 2 minutes in ;-)
What wouldn't I give to be able to sing so perfectly from start to finish without an opportunity to stop and sing a phrase again because it didn't turn out right the first time! Very few singers these days, in the age of digital manipulation, have developed such a well-refined "live singing" skill.
Poor Fritz. He died far too young :(
    Thanks so much for posting.
