First, it must be stated that an additional $30 USD to the $60 experience cannot "save" the experience unless the DLC delivers enough value in itself _in addition to_ making up for what was lacking in the original. I think two things needed to occur for a $90 price tag to be worth it: 1. *The DLC had to rectify the poor performance of the game.* It didn't address enough issues from the initial $60 offering, and the performance in the DLC wasn't up to AAA standards. 2. *It needed to add content enough that makes the entire offering worth 50% more than most AAA games.* I argue that it may have had enough content and exploration to hit that mark given that it's an evergreen game. But it still falls short of RPGs like Xenoblade which are on the same system. Since neither were met in categorically, I think the DLC are valid additions, but I don't think it saved SV. That said, it was worth it for me. But as a huge Pokémon fan, I'm no longer buying Pokémon games on day one unless I'm more confident they'll be worth $60 and/or $90. TPC has to find the time and resources to make a better game out of the box.
I also just played and beat scarlet about 2 months ago, and really enjoyed it. Caught 330 of the pokedex before I even finished the game. Squirtle is my favorite starter, so seeing him in the DLC is a must have now lol. I will say, the story line was a little weird, but I liked the open world and overall design.
I'm 30yo, grew up playing Pokémon, this is the first game I could not finish, I have a day 1 switch and don't know if that's a reason but my switch could not handle that game, it crashed a lot, like every 10 minutes, it also made me nauseous, so I didn't bother with the DLC.
I’m also 30, I also played all gen when they first released and I LOVED gen 9. But aside from that, I also have a day 1 switch but I didn’t have any problem like that. Really makes me wonder how such different experiences can occur. I find it interesting
I agree, the DLC definitely breathed a lot more life into SV than it had otherwise. While Kitakami and the Blueberry Academy didn't themselves fix many of the issues SV faced, they both certainly helped round out the overall experience you had with the games. New moves (and returning ones!), some of the best new additions to the Pokédex (Ogerpon, Hydrapple, Archaludon and Bloodmoon-Ursaluna are all AMAZING), a seriously great, largely self-contained new story with two of the more compelling rival characters we've seen of late, and nostalgia abound, in the access to old Pokémon including starters, the return to regions of old, and seeing the descendants of Unovan characters. The DLC in SwSh is definitely one I would only recommend to people who are Shiny hunters, or have an interest in getting involved. The SV DLC I would recommend to everyone who played the game. It was a great addition
Saved is a strong phrase haha, most of the performance issues still exist (im looking at you windmills) And to pay 40 extra euro for it to be ‘saved’ - and this is coming from someone who 100% the game haha
Recently started to really enjoy the base game and now that I have most of it complete, I contemplate getting the DLC. Just took a while to get used to the technical issues. Love this video, love the vibe! :D Thanks for the input!
Playing Pokémon Shield day one (the first Pokémon game I've ever played at release) really soured me on Pokémon for this generation. I didn't bother with the DLC. My mild interest in PLA has been boosted by the reveal of Legends Z-A, but I'm still very cautious with this series now.
So it wasnt long, just fixed some of the technical issues and cost as much as half a game … i wouldnt call that „fixing“. To even have a chance of fixing the game it should have been free DLC imo (fixing the main game up to a more appropriate state for the 60 bucks it cost- and adding a little extra content to say sorry for the day1-situation).
Honestly, I think the dlc is extremely boring and underwhelming. I much prefer swords dlc. I prefer paldea than both the blueberry academy and kitakamk
IMO Pokemon S&Vs main game was already my favourite Pokemon experience. Multiple interacting stories, characters you mostly grow to love, and the most emotional ending to any of the games. The DLC added so much greatness, you brought into the New Characters stories as well. The Epilogue was wonderful and tied up the themes that the friends you make is the real treasure, subtest of the story so well. And it was fun seeing the OG S&V friends meet the DLC ones. I agree the Terapagos story was very shot and taped on, it was even forgotten in the 1st DLC, but the character direction was what you were following by this point. My only other complaints is that covered up bit in the NE of the base game map was never uncovered, it'd be GREAT if it had some secret additional content (Tied to Kalos ideally) and some of the post game quests in the school weren't so well integrated, they are easy to miss doing unless your determined to keep chatting to the same NPCs again and again. But still, I never had any of these glitches, and I had such an amazing time playing it. It's the best Pokemon game.
even though i enjoy black and white. i cant force myself to play in part 2 of the dlc. it really is just one of those games where if you dont feel it, dont play it. thats just scarlet and violet for me
I remember playing Scarlet and Violet and then a few days later watching my friend play the Cyberpunk DLC. The contrast was just mind bogging. Pokémon is just decades behind where it should be and no DLC is going to save it. GameFreak needs to really change their approach to game design if they want their games to actually be good.
Why compare it to the Cyberpunk DLC when it is easily outclassed there? I always liken it to Monster Hunter Stories 2, which released on the Switch in 2021 and looks far better than any Pokémon game except maybe New Pokémon Snap.
@@Tobykachu Sure, but Pokémon games have never been AAA, they just sell really well. The number of people who worked on the base game of Cyberpunk 2077 is more than double the size of GameFreak's current staff. You can make the argument that GF needs to widen the scope of their projects, and I would agree. But until Pokémon sales start crashing, why would they rock the boat? Palworld put more fire under their ass than anyone has in the last 30 years.
@@DanielZeal That's my point. Given their popularity and sales, Game Freak and the Pokemon company should be striving to produce AAA games. The reward for players investing so much into their games is that they strive to create better games for them in the future. In my eyes there's so much that could be done with the Pokemon brand but Game Freak is never afforded the opportunity to actually do anything with it.
Scarlet & Violet (officially voted worst games of the series by fans) are still bland, boring games with playdough style maps filled with endless bugs and glitches. While Sword & Shield (underrated games) are actually more interesting games that look and perform great. Still a great vid, but no amount of content can save S/V from the disaster they have got themselves into upon release.
Ngl, this video sparked something… I miss this game. It has already become nostalgic. Ngl despite its major and minor flaws, I never cared for them. Because the game wasn’t unplayable. I love this game for its story and I miss the big mystery of the disk Pokémon but I’m glad that it was revealed to be a cute little guy. Even though the ending was short like you said, I still got that epic wild legendary battle that I wanted with epic legendary theme. But the DLCs as a whole is very good. I’m loving the DLCs, and I hope this becomes a staple in a sense, 2 DLCs with 2 cool box art legendaries and maybe extras, with unique stories or more to add to the base games lore. ScarVi’s DLCs is how they should do it, areas that are away from the base region or original areas that are not based on any country or island, like Blueberry academy which is an original area. But yeah… this game has become nostalgic.
Unfortunately, you're assuming that the Day-1 glitch videos showing distorted and stretched characters in Scarlet and Violet were legitimate. There’s a reason you and I didn’t experience these issues: we were playing a legitimate copy on the Switch, not an emulated version. Those screenshots and videos were taken from a non-legitimate, emulated version of the game. These bugs never actually occurred on actual hardware. It was simply people trying to make the game look worse than it really was. Scarlet and Violet definitely have real performance issues, but if you look at reputable channels like Digital Foundry, they don’t mention these specific glitches because they don’t exist. This was just another case of people exaggerating issues, similar to what happened with Starfield and other games. No credible media outlet analyzing the game’s performance reported these glitches. It was only on Twitter, with people sharing unverified footage. None of the content creators who discussed these glitches recreated them-they just assumed the Twitter footage was accurate. They didn’t fact-check because they had no incentive to; drama simply sells better.
After getting nausea from the abysmal frame rate issues in the base game I can’t ever pick up this game again. Unless they release a huge performance patch on Switch 2. I also definitely will not be pre-ordering the next generation game until reviews are out and we know if they actually run well or not. I’m not willing to support mediocrity any more.
Agreed. The dlc had some fantastic aspects. I just finished it yesterday. Some of scarlet and violets character will be unforgettable for me. I’ve been playing since we had to stay under direct light to even seen anything, so the technical issues didn’t bother me. I can say gen 9 is one of the best ever (but I also agree the games released in an inexcusable state).
I think, much like Sword and Shield, one's opinion on Scarlet and Violet's DLC depends on one's experience with the base game. If you liked base Scarlet and Violet, you'll definitely like the DLCs. If you didn't like base Scarlet and Violet, these DLCs might just not be for you. This is especially true for SV since the DLCs have embraced both the best and worst qualities of base Scarlet and Violet. The story and battles in the DLCs are just as good as the ones in the base game, some of SV's best qualities. However, the poor performance and the bugginess of the game still persist in the DLC locations and interior locations are almost nonexistent, you know... some of SV's worst qualities. That being said, I did like both the Teal Mask and Indigo Disk. Teal Mask was great for its story and Indigo Disk was great for its battles. Having liked the base game of Scarlet and Violet, liking the DLCs came as no surprise.
I think it is crazy we have such high expectations from Pokemon when the first games were so buggy you could encounter a Pokemon that they had hidden in the game's code to not be discovered. As well to top it off as soon as it got popular they immediately started re-releasing special editions of the game and people coughed up full price for a new copy that was "fixed" but even then they were still buggy with Missingno glitch and all. This is literally just par for the course when it comes to Pokemon, but I still like it.
These "framerate issues" from the beginning have always been almost nothing. The games have always been 100x more stable than any Bethesda game could ever hope to be and I barely ever noticed any issue cause I was busy....playing
